“stay here and taste the difference, the true champagne experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

If you are looking for something beyond flashy rooms and huge tv screens, a place with charm and character in the Champagne region, you'll love this establishment. The family Charbaut will make you welcome in a comfortable room and offer you a personal and outstanding Champagne experience. You can sip champagne in the garden watching the barges slip past along the canal, make you own salad lunch in the communal kitchenette or take a short drive to any number of private and commercial champagne producers. Don't miss the dinner a table d'hote where you will enjoy a magnificent multi course meal accompanied by the various Guy Charbaut champagnes and meet fellow travelers( very reasonably priced). See the family cave tour ( gratis for guests) which is more comprehensive than what you will see at the big champagne houses. We stayed in room 2 with a view of the canal which was very nice. Excellent english spoken. .....A 5 star experience .

this B&B is situated just over 12 min drives from the Center of Epernay. It is very quiet and you can have a nice walk in the area. The rooms are clean, the shower is OK as long as you not all shower at the same time as the hot/cold will fluctuate. The beds are not the best as they are somewhat hard this could be improved. The owners of the champagne house and B&B also serve dinner, join themselves and serve with every course a different champagne of the house. You will sit at one table with everyone who is checked in and participates in the dinner. Very nice concept and food was also good. If I could not find another B&B in the future I would go back again as i know I get a descent stay for an acceptable price.

It's a pity we stayed there for 1 night only and didn't have a chance to have a dinner in this very attractive B&B.
We liked everything: the rooms, the whole domain, breakfast, wine tasting and cellar visit that the owner offered us although it was Sunday and he was busy with other things.
We would like to come back!

I am a kind of habituee in champagne, and is the first time for me in this B&B,even if B&B sounds reductive in this case.We has been here for a week so,it has been a fair amount of time to built up a solid impression.
A spirited family member that pose like host that take care of all aspects of accomodation ( and beyond) is the ace of this address.
Accomodation is definitely up to satisfy almost all tastes.
If organized with due advance is possible to reserve a dinner at the estate, that revealed to be nothing short that an haute cousine experience, every course served with a different champagne of the estate. That is by itself a good and solid treat.
Very helpful in all aspects the Mme proved to dominate a vary and clever conversation. She has been always happy to share her uncommon wine knowledge, and of course a glass of champagne.
Really a very touching and at same time competent attention.
Close by sleeps the Marne channel by which is possible to indulge in open air activities such as horse riding, bicycle, jogging and...champagne drinking in the garden.

We stayed at this attractive family run Chambre D’Hotes within a Champagne House for one night in July. Our bedroom was light and spacious with a large bathroom and a great view over the canal running through Mareuil-sur-Ay. We had a most enjoyable walk between showers along the canal to Ay.

You can book an evening meal where you join the very welcoming proprietor and his wife. We were told to come to the dining area at 7pm promptly but then had to wait for an hour as other guests were delayed. We had a most enjoyable evening however helped I’m sure by the amount of the house champagne and red wine that was consumed. Not having much French we were lucky that the other guests at dinner were from Belgium and they were happy to chat to us in English. The food was good though not particularly memorable. Breakfast was better with the usual fare (baguettes, croissants, homemade jam and good coffee).

We would stay again but probably eat elsewhere.

Agree that the rooms could do with a bit of investment but this year we had a nice room overlooking the canal and enjoyed a fine dinner and a superb breakfast (plenty of coffee, bread, croisants, jam, meats etc).

Mine hosts can speak little english but they join every meal which can be very 'multi-national'.

The wonderful champagne flows freely at dinner (inclusive) and the trip across the road to the cellars is a must.

After sales are about half UK prices (what a surprise!).

Last year we had a poor experience with a small room (not discounted), this year a much more pleasant experience.

Recommended.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in July. Price is good, including breakfast. It is located in Mareuil sur Ay, a very small village near Épernay and Reims.
The reception was very warming, and we had no problems at all.
Breakfast is almost an exclusive event, really good, including baguettes, croissants, homemade jam and a good coffee.
Bedroom was large, with a romantic decoration and a comfortable bed, bathroom was ok.
There is a parking space inside the courtyard, that is closed by night.
We visited the wine cellar and Alain had kindly explained to us all the process.
