“Lovely romantic stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Wonderful 'Chateau" near Reims, with a beautiful garden, though we were a bit off season.
Very spacious room with a modern bathroom & a lovely buffet breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We also tasted the 7 courses dinner which was a delight at reasonnable cost considering the place.

Chateau de Courcelles is France as you know it: historical, elegant and very special. You drive in from the road through woods and gardens to find the beautiful building. Most of the rooms have a fabulous view to the gardens and I recommend you to stretch your budget a little bit and book the suite, as it has double height ceilings and windows (very palatial).
The restaurant is French cuisine at its best, and at a very good value (55euro for a five course menu or 95 euro for the tasting menu). The wine list will not disappoint you either.
The service is most attentive and very friendly.
Finally the location will give you plenty of opportunities to explore a very beautiful part of France, with Reims and its champagne caves at easy reach.

Room Tip: The suites are very grand.

This is our second stay at Château de Courcelles. We chose a complete package, with a night in a deluxe suite of the castle, a gastronomic dinner of 7 courses, and the breakfast the following morning. We were welcomed in a very courteous and professional manner by the staff. The person at the desk showed us around, and described the premices. He escorted us to our room (number 4 this time). Our room was nicely decorated, you really feel you're inside a castle. The bed is very large and comfortable. On a table, there was a welcome little cake, always a nice touch which we appreciate. A few minutes later, the staff brought us the bottle of Champagne that is included in the package we chose. For dinner, we went downstairs, and decided to have our "aperitif" in one of the lounges, we were alone and it was very romantic. We had some champagne and a fes appetizers. Then we went to dine in the veranda. Dinner was excellent, we enjoyed every item on our 7 course menu. What we realy enjoy also is that the service is not long, contrary to other gastronomic restaurants. We then returned to our room, that the staff had prepared for the night. The breakfast on the following morning was on par with the quality of the restaurant. Wonderful "pains au chocolat" and "croissants", ham, cheese, home-made vanilla cream, fruit salad.... When we left, we were offered 2 good bye cookies, and 2 bottles of water. All these nice touches make the difference and explain why we will not hesitate to return again.

A short and picturesque drive through the countryside from CDG, Chateau de Courcelles was a wonderful start to our trip in France. The property is beautiful, a late 17th century chateau that somehow escaped serious damage in both World Wars. The service is excellent and friendly rather than stuffy. The young chef is superb. Our one dinner there was a high point of the trip. Easy drive to Champagne region, Reims, Epernay, etc. A great place to decompress and relax either at the beginning or end of a trip to France.

I write this in english because most of people going there are GB! My dear english friends, go away from this place, save your money! I complained already to Relais Chateaux. My God a 2 star Hotel is better then this. Place is really great and the park around is really nice, history of the sourroundings amazing, but too expensive for the service provided and the hygiene missing! Plenty of flies everywhere on food and in the restaurant. They serve cheese plenty of flies!!! The poor breakfast (2 croissant + half baguette) is delighted by the presence of flyes staying on the food from 8 to 10.30... a serious hygienic control would oblige the castle to close the doors for ever. As for the service, poeple are completely unexperienced they even dont know what food or wine are. we asked to have a chat with the Director, he was sitting 2 meters far from us and they told us he was off that day!!! Incredible for these prices.

Room Tip: room n 9, really good room but too expensive... 295 €

This is a lovely place - we always stay here when travelling through the region. The food is superb, and grounds beautiful. The owner has a Black Labrador who wanders about, making this hotel very dog-friendly. However, this comes at a price - it's expensive.

On our most recent visit there was a large party was taking place. It is probably best to ask for a room in the stable block if this is going to happen (ie ask when booking) - we will in future, as we were kept awake until 1am.

Room Tip: Rooms in main building have lots of character, but can be noisy

The best thing about the hotel (once you finally manage to find it!) is the relaxed feeling you get from the moment of arrival, it is luxurious, but not pretentious. Every member of staff, without exception, was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was large and typically chateau-like, full of old furniture, etc. Bathroom was stunning, one of the best I have ever had and all very clean. Fantastic free Hermes products. Beautiful view of the grounds from the room, couldn't have asked for much more.
Lovely restaurant, and waiting staff, which was very quiet as we were there mid-week, but still offered full service. Only criticism of the food was that the portions were too large, with prices to match, e.g. a steak for two for 115 Euros, which could have easily fed four people which was a shame as we had to leave half of it. No-one could eat that much! The starters were equally large and filling.
As others have mentioned, the pool was closed, not sure why, but otherwise a very pleasant stay. Only thing I would mention is you MUST take a fly spray! The hotel is surrounded by trees and grassland, which inevitably brings flying things, and we were absolutely bombarded. At one stage we must have had a few hundred midges in the room, wandering across the ceiling. Not the hotel's fault, but just be prepared when you go. If the hotel had just provided a tea-tray in the room the stay would have been perfect. It's all very well bringing cups of tea up on a silver service, but when you can't sleep at 4am and need a cup of something, you don't really want to be calling down to room service or waking the night porter. But none of the chateaux seem to offer this service. Otherwise we had a lovely stay, and would stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor, but the rooms were still very large, with more than enough space.
