“My experience at the Zanzibar Beach Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

I recently stayed at this resort in February 2014. My room and bed was clean, tidy and comfortable. The views from my balcony were beautiful. The staff and waiters were friendly but the communication barrier was frustrating at times. The F.O.M. and G.M. were very helpful and pleasant to speak to. The food was delicious. Freshest and yummiest calamari I have eaten while in Zanzibar. Executive Chef Guy and Chef Dickson were such a pleasure to speak to about my food allergies and went out of their way to make sure my meals were perfect. I was really impressed with their professional yet friendly manner. The pool was a dissappointment. The fountains were gross to look at, serious water maintenance is needed. The hotel lacks in activities and a spa. My room did flood when it rained heavy. With a few major and minor changes, this resort would be quite an awsome place to stay at.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms or the rooms with a balcony have beauitful views.

Seriously, if you are coming all the way to Zanzibar you can save a few extra dollars and stay somewhere better. Or else you can stay at a hostel in Stone Town or a banda on the beach which would be better than this.

So many bugs in the rooms, the pool water is greenish black, some of the fountains are actually foaming with mold from sitting untouched for so long. The food is really bad as well. My first room smelled as though it had been molding for quite some time as well. Then there was dirt in my sheets. My TV didn't work, nor did the wifi.

Seriously, this place is just plane bad.

Room Tip: Anything has to be better than room 116.

We stayed in the resort over Dec 2013. It was a pleasant stay over all. We arrived very early and the staff didn't hesitate to check us in although check in time is much later. The rooms were clean and tidy. Some people cmplained about cold showers but we never had that problem. You got to let the water run for a while before you feel hot water. Very nice pool area and we had a dj every day that played music by the pool which was great as it kind of "broke the silence". The food was average, nothing that would wow you. It was tasteless to be very honest. They never had ice available. So when u order a drink, you get a coke but with no ice. Not very nice on a hot summers day. Mosquitos literally ate us for dinner. Make sure you buy a good repellant if you don't want to be eaten up alive. House keeping comes around at night to spray the room which helps. The one thing that was a huge disappontment was no entertainment at the hotel which made it really boring actually. They have such a nice space and there is so much potential, such a shame they don't know what to do with it. I suggest they have a peek at the other hotels and steal some tips.

I visited this hotel few years back and all I remember is their swimming pool.

I guess the swimming pool they have will be in the list of top 5 swimming pools in zanzibar island.

as others mentioned, please wear long sleeves, jeans and dress shoes nevertheless hot temperature because the mosquitos will never be your friend during your stay.

they may have decent architectural ornaments, pleasing your eyes with traditional looks but they picked very bad beach to be located to(in comparison of Nungwi or Kiwengwa beach resorts).

to mention their food... it was quite challenging to see the taste being not reliable. they seemed to have no stadard recipe and you will notice it in a heart beat because even if you ordered the same menu throughout your stay, it will always be different each time you taste them.

Our stay at this hotel for the New year was extremely disappointing. The room furniture was dated, shower didn't have hot water, bed sheets and towels were ripped and stained, TV never worked. Maintenance came on three separate occasions in a single afternoon and never came back to fix the problem.
Staff were friendly but most of the time appeared confused with lack of supervision. On New Year's day, the breakfast buffet was cold and had very limited items to select from.

On many occasions I have stayed the sister hotel-Kunduchi Beach hotel in Dar-Es-salaam and have thoroughly enjoyed my stays there-whether it was for business or pleasure. I had wrongly made the assumption that Zanzibar Beach Resort would have the same excellent standard as Kunduchi.

Funnily enough, on 2nd January, that is when all the Wazungu 'managers' resurfaced and could be seen around the hotel- I assume they too were on vacation during the busiest time of the year and let the hotel run itself with junior staff.

The Zanzibar Beach Resort at its best is a budget hotel.

Well worth hotels need to shut down and renovate this property and change management.

Would not recommend it to anyone.

If you are interested in having your belongings or money stolen, then this is the place for you. Reclaiming anything is a waste of time as you will be brushed off in the name of 'ongoing investigations!!' The cherry on top is a pathetic beach, full of dirt, and not forgetting the bugs in the room! A horrible experience that no one should be subjected to. The most annoying part was the staff that steal your money and valuables and the management that entertains such nonsense! Pathetic is the most polite word for this resort!

My stay at Zanzibar Beach Resort in December 2013 was a very pleasant one. We were very warmly received by the staff. All were extremely friendly and were always willing to please.
I found the approach of the GM , Mr Derick Grose to be very warm.

The Food and Beverage Manager , Mr Dayne , is most amazing and friendly. He also assisted me to find my way around the island.
It was through his recommendation that we visited Chumbe Islands ...Many Thanks.

Im glad to see that there are efforts made to improve the amenities..The pool , tiling etc.

I would recommend this resort to people who are seeking a budget option and at the same time gaining value for money..
It wont be long before the rates in this resort will be unaffordable to the person seeking a budget option mini break.

The meals were good. The staff are ever so kind.
A good base from which one could explore Zanzibar..
The city was a STONES throw away..and the resort offered a FREE shuttle service which costs 20 000 Ts daily return
Regards
Farouk Ismail

Room Tip: opt for the SUPER DELUX..We were blessed to have the front unit ( 112 ) for the full week
