“A Hungarian Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

I have recently returned from an extensive trip to Europe and was fortunate enough to stay at Castle Hertelendy in Kutas-Kozmapuszta Hungary.
The Castle Estate can only be described as magnificent.
Rooms, accommodation and service were perfect.
Staff are extremely helpful and the food could not be faulted.
For those who may not have a rental car , no problem , as the walks on the Estate are beautiful and there is a lovely out door swimming pool.
The estate also produces its own vegetables and fruits.
This was my First visit to Hungary and I was not disappointed.
Certainly a 5 star property.

This hotel is amazing. It has all, what you are looking for, if you are into style, class, interior, design, delicious cuisine. Very polite and well mannered crew, absolutely immaculate condition rooms, out of this world kitchen and service! It is a MUST if want to feel like a Queen or a King.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with a pet, you can only rent out the hunter's lodges. If you are traveling...

The castle and grounds were evocative of the early 20th century. They even have the pictures to prove it. They have fresh organic produce growing behind the castle. Needless to say the food is superb. In fact they ask their hotel guests upon arrival about food allergies and what kind of food they wish to eat . (choices range from authentic hungarian to gourmet (7 course meals are provided 4 days a week).
First class horse stables and a shooting range (archery or skeet shooting) are available for guests to enjoy. The riding instructor used to be a equestrian stunt man and gave us the performance of a life time.

The tennis courts were in excellent shape and we enjoyed playing for many hours.

Istvan is the manager and he and his staff provided us with first class service from the time we arrived to the time we left. There was absolutely nothing that we were in need of .
Hetelendy is truly a diamond in the hungarian heartland.
Passionate and caring Hungarian hospitality.

The rooms were classy, elegant and very modern. I probably had the fastest internet service at Hertelendy than anywhere else in Europe.

Hertelendy Kastély is one of the most amazing luxury boutique hotels in Europe and a remote romantic getaway of a class of its own. Located in the middle of the Hungarian countryside and surrounded by acres of own land and apple orchards it is accessible by air through Budapest, Vienna (Austria) and Graz (Austria, the closest) intern. airports. The hotel arranges pick-ups from all of these airports, but it is another 3-4 hour drive to the hotel – which makes the option of travelling by private plane directly to the hotels own runway a very good choice.
Despite the hassle (or cost if you decide on the private plane transport) of getting there, a visit to Hertelendy Kastély is definitely worth it – especially for couples. The hotel is very intimate with only 12 rooms in the castle and offers the most attentive yet unobtrusive service. You’ll feel like guests in an Hungarian aristocrats private home rather than in a hotel.
The whole hotel has a romantic charm that can’t be described but has to be experienced. From a beautifully renovated and decorated castle – far from the kitsch you’ll often find in Hungary and Eastern Europe - to excellent service and exquisite cuisine, it offers everything you could possible wish for in a five star hotel. Take a romantic carriage ride across the beautiful estate or go horseback riding on one of the hotels Freiberger horses (there is a personal horse for every guest!). Afterwards, relax in the indoor spa, the outdoor pool or the unique Finish Kelo-Sauna. Enjoy a romantic dinner with excellent food in the candlelight hotel restaurant, followed by dessert or a glass of wine in front of the cozy fireplace in the library before retreating to your romantically decorated room.
For those seeking the hotels romantic atmosphere for a unique event, the hotel’s staff is happy to arrange for a one-of a kind marriage proposal or intimate wedding at Hertelendy Kastély, too. Something I could perfectly picture for myself.

This is a destination resort - to be honest there is not much in the vicinity other than the hotel (Lake Balaton is about 90 min away by car, otherwise it is a flat, farming region). The hotel is an early 1900's castle and horse ranch with at least 9 lovely horses on site, and opportunities for horseback or carriage rides. There are free activities such as archery, tennis, hiking, cycling and a gym, or you can pay for shooting or riding. Great modern indoor spa with sauna, whirlpool and steam room, plus really fun old-fashioned wood sauna and hot tub outdoors. The hotel is located on hotsprings and the pool is 32 degrees Celcius so that is quite a treat! We had a 3 nt off season package in the Hunter's apartments - it did have a kitchen but despite that, all our breakfasts and 6-course gourmet dinners every night were included; all services considered, it was a great value (although not cheap). If you stay 3 nts they will throw in free private transport from Budapest or Graz, or to a nearby train station, which is a real bonus as the area is fairly remote. Service was fantastic throughout. Just realize that you are there to enjoy the hotel - don"t expect too much sightseeing nearby!!
