“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I chose the Chateau for our elopement and it exceeded our expectations. We loved the privacy and very friendly service. The property is beautiful. It was the perfect countryside location for our special day. The suites are decorated with exquisite taste. Very comfortable and romantic. The meals were amazing. A truly talented chef. The owner and staff are very professional and dedicated to making guests happy. We loved our stay at the Chateau.

My nephew rented the whole chateau for 4 nights for his incredible May wedding! Everyone in the wedding party stayed in the chateau and 2 couples stayed in the carriage house. Most of the rooms had bathrooms but some shared bathrooms. Which is what we did; but the bathrooms are luxurious and we never had a problem with timing. All of the rooms are large and decorated with period furniture and beautiful antiques. Don't worry, the bathrooms are 100% modern and georgeous!

When we arrived, we all couldn't believe how beautiful and spectacular, even better than the pictures! We felt like honored, royal guests with all the attention Cynthia paid us and gave us the run of the place. Each morning some of the group went running and Zeus, Cynthia's mellow dog would escort each one. The countryside of France is so beautiful and the grounds at the chateau are no exception. So peaceful with lovely trails and areas to just kick back and relax.

Cynthia is amazing! Talk about multi-tasking, she is the queen! Everything was perfect and the wedding was magical! I can't imagine any other place as perfect as this. This was a once in a lifetime experience that should not be missed!

Room Tip: Ask to get a room with the bathroom inside.

Simply an outstanding place for your wedding!! Cant fault this place at all! The countryside is so amazing and the castle itself has so much history and is adored by everyone who sees it!

Cynthia the owner has put her heart and soul into every and all aspects of the rooms and decoration and it shows, there is not another place like this in France! And unlike the tiny hotels room in Paris, any bedroom in the Castle is bigger than my first 3 bedroom apartment!

Room Tip: ooh best room, hmm any of them!

Thank you Cynthia and Chateau Challain!!!

My wife and I have just returned from Chateau Challain, where we spent an amazing 4 nights celebrating with friends and family, including the wedding day itself. We can’t say enough positive things about our stay, and special thanks to Cynthia and staff for ensuring our wedding day was so perfect. Everyone has different taste, but for us, it was our dream wedding!

There are lots of detailed reviews already, whose positive sentiments we would echo. No need to repeat them here, so just wanted to share our experience, in case anyone else considering the chateau as a wedding venue (answer – YES!).

As background, we’re English, and wanted to get married abroad with a smaller number of guests (60-70 in our case). We had hired out all the rooms for 4 nights, so could spend time relaxing with the guests, rather than rushing on one day. Everyone was blown away by how beautiful the chateau and grounds were. There is also so much space that was easy for guests to wander off on their own for a while, as well as join in with group fun. Given limited number of rooms, many guests actually stayed in a B&B in nearby Cande, which also worked out really well – they generally came to hang out at the Chateau anyway.

Night before the wedding we had a hog roast BBQ outside. Catering was excellent, and proved a real hit with everyone. Also good chance for people to meet before the big day.

On the wedding day itself, we were on French timing, so ceremony 5pm. I hired out the new Gatehouse rooms to get ready – they look great incidentally – and to keep out the bride’s way, while she and the other ladies were having hair/makeup etc sorted in the chateau itself.

Ceremony took place outside. Cynthia and her team had done an amazing job, and it all looked spectacular – special thanks to Jean-Marie for the flowers, which were exquisite! For an outside venue, the chateau garden was exactly what we were after.

The ceremony, champagne & canapés, dinner and then band was all fantastic – quite personal, so no need for all the details here – suffice to say everything went very smoothly, Cynthia and her team are clearly very experienced at this, and they had also created a fab atmosphere with all the flowers/table decorations too. We crashed out in the early hours, but not before everyone tried the French “wedding cake” (bit like a pyramid of profiteroles, I can recommend it!).

Throughout our stay, and particularly on the wedding day itself, the venue, overall experience, staff, and particularly creative touch and energy from Cynthia herself, were consistently top-notch. We couldn’t be happier, and look forward to returning for anniversaries/birthdays/any excuse in future!

Thanks again to Cynthia and the rest of the Chateau Challain family!!

To stay at Chateau Challain is one of those must do things in life. If you want to know how the aristocracy of the 17th century lived, this is as close as you will ever get. This beautiful house will afford you comfort, a friendly welcome and a comfortable stay with modern amenities sympathetically included in the original fabric of the house. The staff are great and even the "guard" dog Zeus is a real softy!

We can recommend this beautiful house 100% - the greatest Chambres d'Hote on earth without question!
