Oyster Island is approximately a 20 minute drive from Luganville, up the selaed East Coast Rd.
You take a left hand turn at their easy to see sign & drive for a few minutes down a dirt raod, park up & ring the large metal gong. Within a few minutes a quaint traditional Natangora thatched roof boat will putter over & take you the 200 yards across the channel to Oyster Island.
You don't have to be staying there to get this service; all you have to do is eat there or hire their kayaks.
I usually go out there on a Sunday at midday, where they offer a excellent 2,000 VT/head buffet, which also includes free use of kayaks to paddle up to the Matavulu Blue Holes (approx. 40 minutes each way & highly recommended). Usually the kayaks are 1,200 VT each, so this is a good saving.
But as the kitchen is so busy on Sundays, you will find it difficult to order off the menu, until the buffet service is finished.
It is a magic Island to explore, nice for swimming, snorkling, playing volleyball or just kicking back on a beach chair.
It never feels crowded & during the week, there might only be one ot two people in the restaurant.
Oyster Island is one of the must see places on Santo.
