A nice inviting pub and a promising menu. We were shown to our table and allowed to settle in - we ordered drinks and they were brought. As we were waiting to order, the waiter came over to ask if we had booked. We said that we had - and he went away to check - he then came back to say that we were on the wrong table - and that someone else had specifically requested THIS table. we pointed out to him that they had shown us to this table - but still we were asked to move tables! not a great start. The service was average - a fairly long wait for our food - but when it came it was quite good. The waiter seemed a bit offhand when we reminded him that we had ordered side dishes - He said "I asked you if you wanted sauces with your dinner - I was going to get the onion rings NEXT!" Ooops, sorry for speaking. For a minute, we thought we were the customer - silly us for not knowing what he was going to do!!
When the bill came, we had been charged for 3 coffees and not two. I queried this and it seems that they had decided to charge for an extra coffee because my mum had asked them to make sure her coffee was nice and strong. The waiter said that we should not have been charged for a whole extra coffee but just a shot - so he represented our bill with the coffee taken off but 40p for a shot of coffee on it!
On one level this is fair enough - but on another level - they didn't think twice about asking a table of diners to move places once settled with their drinks to make way for other customers - when it was their mistake - and still feel it appropriate to demand a supplement for the customer to have a coffee served to her liking! Incredible! It would have cost pennies for them to have given us a complimentary coffee for my Mum - instead - they added on 40p. what value is customer service and happy customers? More than 40 p in my estimations. What a shame!
