“a little dodgy on the customer service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

A nice inviting pub and a promising menu. We were shown to our table and allowed to settle in - we ordered drinks and they were brought. As we were waiting to order, the waiter came over to ask if we had booked. We said that we had - and he went away to check - he then came back to say that we were on the wrong table - and that someone else had specifically requested THIS table. we pointed out to him that they had shown us to this table - but still we were asked to move tables! not a great start. The service was average - a fairly long wait for our food - but when it came it was quite good. The waiter seemed a bit offhand when we reminded him that we had ordered side dishes - He said "I asked you if you wanted sauces with your dinner - I was going to get the onion rings NEXT!" Ooops, sorry for speaking. For a minute, we thought we were the customer - silly us for not knowing what he was going to do!!
When the bill came, we had been charged for 3 coffees and not two. I queried this and it seems that they had decided to charge for an extra coffee because my mum had asked them to make sure her coffee was nice and strong. The waiter said that we should not have been charged for a whole extra coffee but just a shot - so he represented our bill with the coffee taken off but 40p for a shot of coffee on it!
On one level this is fair enough - but on another level - they didn't think twice about asking a table of diners to move places once settled with their drinks to make way for other customers - when it was their mistake - and still feel it appropriate to demand a supplement for the customer to have a coffee served to her liking! Incredible! It would have cost pennies for them to have given us a complimentary coffee for my Mum - instead - they added on 40p. what value is customer service and happy customers? More than 40 p in my estimations. What a shame!

“1.5 hours and still no food arrived”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We live in MK and often make a trip to the Globe. The food is not top quality by any means but we enjoy going as a family and eating outside watching the boats go by. We went there recently to see the renovations and to enjoy a family meal on a sunny weeknight. We ordered our food at 7.30pm and at 8.55pm no food had arrived. I complained and was given a refund and we then drove home via a supermarket and bought some food.

We enjoyed a very nice meal at the Globe Inn with excellent service in spite of there being a large party there too.

“Spoiled by Cat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

A very good meal indoors rather spoiled by a cat around our feet which then climbed on adjacent tables and chairs.
Sad to think that the cat had probably been sitting on our table and chairs before our arrival!
The pub has recently been refurbished to a high standard

“Great location, good food and modest prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

It had been a while since my wife and I had eaten at the Globe so following a recent revamp we decided to give it a try when our usual local restaurant was clearly overfull. The decor is pleasant and the furniture comfortable. The pub is very popular with the narrow boats using the canal, particularly in the summer months and this helps to give a lively atmosphere.
The menu is quite varied without being too large and over ambitious. There are fixed price offers as well as further menus for the over 60's and children if required and these represent excellent value.
On our first visit my wife and I both had the gammon which was excellent. In fact we enjoyed our meal so much that we made a return visit again recently when my wife had the lemon chicken with vegetables and I had the haddock and chips. Good portions well cooked and £9.95 for the two, there aren't many places that you can get a decent meal for less than a fiver these days. Of course the cost of drinks and coffees pushes up the overall cost but still great value in our view and a lot less than we would normally expect to pay when we have a meal on the spur of the moment.
Well done to The Globe, keep up the good work and see you again soon.
