“Great meal and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

A really friendly welcome was followed by a great meal at reasonable prices.
Menu was extensive and the food was well presented and excellent.
The only criticism was time between courses but the food is prepared fresh so not a problem.
Will definitely return to a lovely setting.

We stayed here for 2 nights on the 8th and 9th of may. We ate here on the first night of our stay and i have to say the food was exceptional, service friendly and attentive and atmosphere was lovely. The menu was fantastic and we will definitely be going back to eat here on mass with family and friends etc.

I love this b & b, our room was called stokesay and was great. Massive on suite, with a large bedroom big enough to include a sofa. Such a cosy place. Especially loved the old door that goes from inn to the court yard, just had bags and bags of character.

Jane and Richard were really nice. And you could tell Richard is an accomplished chef. They couldn't do enough for us while we stayed here. They should be proud of what they have achieved here and we would recommend to anyone. What a cracking family run b & b. See you soon guys :).

Thank you both for taking the time to write a lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your two night stay and the dinner. We are just in the process of revamping the courtyard and adding lots of new furnishings to the rooms. Hope you can find the time to stay with us again. Richard and Jane

Had it not been for a Travelzoo offer we would not have visited this wonderful gourmet pub as somewhere like this would be unknown to passing visitors. For a start, Munslow is tiny village on the B4368 in Shropshire where a visitor would be forgiven for not stopping as there are about only 20 odd houses and The Crown would be easily missed. To a passing eye in a car at speed, it would appear as a refurbished country pub for the locals but to the knowing visitor, The Crown offers some of the best cuisine in the area.

Though we did not stay there, we had a superb two-course gourmet dinner which was more than substantial as we could not make it to desert no matter how tempting the desert menu sounded. The pub is run by Richard and Jane Arnold and being on the of the last customers to leave, we had a chance to talk to Jane who gave us a full history of their involvement with the place. Richard and Jane apparently have solid histories in the trade and Richard is an awarded top chef both when he was working for other organisations and in his own right as patron-chef of The Crown, confirmed by our own experience!

The food is definitely not fast food nor is it pub-grub. The dishes are properly prepared on order and for that reason, canapes and home-made bread are provided while waiting for the first course to arrive. A jug of water is also provided without having the need to request for one. The pub has a couple of informal bistro-type eating areas around the bar and a more formal restaurant upstairs laid with table-cloths. Prices, I believe are the same all over as is the quality of the food. Because it is also a small hotel of 3 rooms, there is a small lounge with comfy seats where after-dinner drinks can be served.

As a pub for having a drink, there are plenty of tables in the bar area and in the terraced garden.

Great warm atmosphere. Happy friendly professional staff. Wonderful country feel and cosy. A typical old country inn with wonderful views of shropshire hills. Imaginative and varied menu with nice extras which makes for a memorable experience. Can't wait to return! Great happy memories! Thanks

A group of us stayed at the hotel last weekend and can recommend it highly. The hotel is friendly and welcoming and the rooms are very nice with comfortable, massive beds, toiletries, tea and coffee- making facilities, sweets, biscuits, etc. We had the downstairs bedroom which had an ensuite shower room (not a power shower but it was hot and fine for us).

However, what sets this hotel apart is the food. It is wonderful. I tasted a sample from every meal that 8 of us had on both the Friday and Saturday evening, so really most of the menu, and everything was delicous. Different from anywhere else, actually, and really, really special. There was a wait for the food but that was good for us because it allowed us to pace ourselves for the cover, three courses plus petit fours with coffee. As we stayed at the hotel, we are in a position to recommend amazing breakfasts, such as freshly squeezed orange juice, great full English, smoked haddock and cheese omelette and pastries straight out of the over. Our breakfasts were so large, all we needed from breakfast until dinner at 8 pm was a small bowl of soup or a small piece of cake.

The service was excellent, also. The owners are genuinely pleasant and helpful people and can't do enough for you, particularly demonstrated when quickly washing my white top with red wine on it to avoid it staining - came out perfectly - how many other people would be so kind?

On the Saturday, we went into Ludlow, looked around and did a 5 mile walk around the town (AA guide), and on the Sunday, went to Stokesay Castle which was really interesting - both great days.

We have already booked to stay again.

Room Tip: All we saw were very nice.

My husband and four friends have just spent the weekend at The Crown in Munslow, it was fabulous, we warmly welcomed on our arrival and shown our rooms, my husband and i stayed in the Stokesay Bedroom which was beautiful and very quirky the floors are not level so when i got out of bed i discovered i was going in the wrong direction, it was very funny i love quirky!!!

We all met up in the bar for a drink before dinner which was at 8pm we had two friends join us for Friday evening, we were then told our table was ready and we had the most amazing meal, there are so many choices it too us ages to choose! The food was so good and cooked to order so you can be sure there are no microwaved meals here, but you have to be prepared to wait and for such good food it is well worth the wait.

We had the same amazing choice on Saturday evening and repeated the relaxing and enjoyable task of choosing what we were going to eat that evening! It's a tough life but somebody has to do it! ;-) During the meal my husband managed to throw his glass of red wine over our friend who had a white cotton top on, the owner ammediately told our friend to go change her top and she would put it in the washing machine so that it would not be damaged, it was ready the next morning without a mark on it, you wouldn't get that sort of service from most hotels, they just couldn't do enough for you.

Before we left sunday morning we booked another weekend for August, we can't wait to go back, the owners have a boxer dog who is allowed to come down to the bar when dinner is over she is beautiful but has a heart defect, i fell totally in love with her and i have told her she must behave herself so that i can make a fuss of her when we go back in August.

The Inn only has 3 rooms so is quite intimate and homely, i can't recommend The Crown Inn enough it was fabulous, we love them all!!

Susie Connolly

Room Tip: The Stokesay bedroom only has a bath and a handheld shower, the other two bedrooms only have showers...

We stayed for 2 nights after the Easter weekend on a Living social deal. Everything was great. We received a very warm welcome from Jane, and Richard helped us with our bags. Our room was very comfortable and cosy and the bathroom was spotless, just what we needed after a very chilly day in Shrewsbury. What can you say about the food, Brilliant, faultless and so tasty. We ate in the restaurant both nights and each course was really scrumtious. Breakfast was very good with locally sourced ingredients set us up for the day ahead. I would reccomend this Inn to anyone wanting a base to visit Ludlow and Shrewsbury just a perfect place.
