“Great stay @ Stoney End Cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

We have just returned from a lovely stay at stoney end cottage. This is the self catering cottage by the B&B. From the minute we arrived we felt at home and welcome - the scenery is fantastic and we were so lucky with the weather. The cottage is full of character and is incredibly comfortable. The hot tub is a great feature and was most enjoyed at night watching the stars - very romantic. Lots of amazing walks nearby but our favourite place was lazing by the river with a glass of rose while the dogs paddled in the stream. Absolutely glorious stay - we will be back!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Stoney End it is a perfect get away place, Pam & Mike were so great, they are so welcoming and nothing was to much trouble any thing you wanted or needed to know they would make sure it was there. the breakfasts were so filling and there was plenty of choice. the rooms are well looked after to a very high standard, the living room with the roaring log fire is so homely. I would recommend Stoney End to anyone who just wants to get away from it all and be looked after by 2 fantastic people. All we can add to this is that it is the best B & B we have ever stayed at.

Its the small thoughtful touches that really stand out at Stoney End the owners have a clear understanding of what discerning travellers need, we had a wonderful room, and enjoyed the hot tub on a cold misty evening.
The breakfast was simply outstanding and the best I have had anywhere else in the world.

We have just returned from 4 days of pure relaxation at Stoney End. We were welcomed warmly by Mike and Pam into their beautiful home and were greeted by a roaring fire. We were shown to our room which could not be faulted. my husband and I are both over 6 foot so were very pleased to see the extra large bed. Every need is catered for in your room and it is the best equipped b&b room we have stayed. The hot tub for two looking over the stunning view cannot be beaten. The breakfast deserves a special mention. The menu is outstanding, the quality of the produce exceptional and it is cooked with great care and attention to detail.
We look forward to returning.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2011. Our room was lovely, the service was great (especially the breakfasts!) and the surrounding countryside beautiful. Would highly recommend Stoney End!

We recently stayed at Stoney End B&B and really enjoyed the experience, we usually try to stay in 5 star if we can and for a B&B it had a good feel about it, hosts were very nice and helpfull and nearby Askrigg is a 20 min walk away, we had the Yoredale room with the hot tub and the only gripe I had was the small area where the tub is could have been a bit tidier and cleaner i.e. a few tab ends on floor from previous occupants and weeds overgrown on surrounding patio, the other small gripe which may cost them the 5 star rating is the tiling around the base of the shower where several are falling away in places but really these were minor issues and I would recommend the B&B to anyone, as previous reviews have stated the breakfasts are top drawer and all locally sourced produce.

Room Tip: Yoredale room with hot tub

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay ay Stoney End. We have noted your comments and have checked and addressed where necessary. Our own private patio which is not available to guests is not at its best at this time of year but is not full of weeds but wild strawberry plants which we encourage and collect fruit from in the summer!! We are always available to address any problems or comments our guests have and supply a feedback form in our bedrooms for guests who do not feel able to comment verbally. This form asks for specific details should guests have concerns. On this occasion these details were sadly ommited. We also followed up by e mail and received no response. We really do care about our guests experience and are sorry that these problems were not raised during your stay. We are sadly unable to put things right after our guests have left.

Stoney End is situated in an extremely beautiful part of the world, surrounded by rolling hills, and open fields.

Pam and Mike were warm and friendly hosts from the moment we arrived in the sleepy hamlet of Worton. (in fact, Pam was very helpful responding to my booking queries whilst they were by the pool in Greece)

The lounge has a very homely, traditional feel, with a huge fireplace and it had a real seasonal spiced citrus aroma. We stayed in the 'Yoredale' room which is situated on the groundfloor, just opposite the small but well appointed gym and sauna. The Bed was massive, and very comfy, the complimentary refreshments tray was well stocked with a selection of Teas and Coffee, Hot chocolate, and local handmade chocolates. The room has a flatscreen TV/DVD with Sky (an assortment of DVDs are available from the lounge). The bathroom has modern fixtures and fittings, with Neutrogena toiletries, and soft, luxurious Towels.

The big draw of the Yoredale room is definitely the private Hot Tub, after a long day out walking in the Dales, there's nothing better than coming home, and sinking into the Tub and staring up at the stars.

The Breakfast menu is packed full of local produce, with starters including cereal, muesli, grapefruit, and yoghurt with FANTASTIC home made spiced fruit compote. Your mains, include home smoked trout kedgeree, full Dales Cooked Breakfast (built to your own specification).

I suppose one very minor negative (for some) is that they don't do evening meals, but everyone needs a bit of time off, and there are plenty of pubs around with Aysgarth, Askrigg and Bainbridge just a couple of minutes away, and the market town of Hawes just 10 minutes down the road. George and Dragon in Aysgarth comes highly recommended.

All in all a brilliant stay, plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding area, and Pam is always around to help and offer suggestions.

I wouldn't hessitate in going back to Stoney End.

nb. the 4 star on Value is based on what would have been the full price of the stay, with the 3rd night free and winter discount, I'd actually rate the value as 6 Stars :o)
