“Heavenly Private Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

I loved my visit to Urraca so much that I returned a second time! This private resort is secluded in a mangrove island near the Zapatillas ~ the perfect place to relax, away from all the noise and pollution found on developed islands. The hostess, Francine, is a superb French chef, and prepares decadent meals every night made from the fresh fish and lobster delivered by the Ngobe Indians. The ambience throughout the resort makes it the perfect holiday. Make sure you check out the hammocks on the second floor observation deck ~ my favorite place to read, with a breath taking view of the Caribbean. I loved swimming in the clear water with lots of beautiful fish, and having cocktails with my friends on the table in the water. Francines' pet monkey, Toutie was lots of fun to play with too. Heavenly!

Room Tip: Be sure to check out the last house next to the mangrove ~ My personal favorite both times since it...

Urraca Private Island is truly a gem in the Bocas del Toro region. Although the boat ride to the island seems long going out, once you arrive at the gorgeous little resort and Francine greets you at the dock (the owner and host during your stay), all of your worries and cares are gone! Everything from the vibrant pink huts over the blue water to Tuti the monkey to delicious food was truly magical. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of an escape from the hustle and bustle. Bug spray is a must and hot water is limited so be sure to shower before you arrive!

..for 5 days - we had the most amazing experience in this microcosom! This is eco-tourism as I'd never thought about! The setting in the small mangrove, the wildlife, the natural swimming pool, the fresh seafood prepared to perfection, the comfortable bungalows, the beautiful decor, friendly staff, and above all the incredible woman who runs this place ..all incredible and unforgettable! ..can't wait to go back. Did I mention the monkey? She's the main attraction! If you get bored the little adventure trips are great.

This was, I knew, going to be an excellent vacation. However, my expectations were utterly surpassed. Francine is the sweetest person in the world and one of the best hosts I have ever seen in my life. You will certainly be in the lap of luxury when there and the food, oh the food...

Wait and see and you will second this recommendation. Will go back for the rest of my life. Also, as I said in the title, the monkey: You will just have to see. Smart, lovely, and kind this monkey was. You will have a great time and this coming from someone who is the harshest of critics.
You will love Francine!

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful and super cozy. you will love any you choose.

This little resort with only 4 overwater bungalows (8 persons total) is a fantastic place to stay away from stress and pollution. Far away from large overpopulated resort and alone on your mangrove island, Francine will be your host for your stay. Always happy and willing to show you how indiens Ngobes live around. You'll go fishing with them and visit their villages, do a croc safari at nightime, etc... Then when the eveningt comes, be prepared for a 5* meal with a 3 courses serving including the fish you had catch earlier! Excellent food that I miss so much!

The overall experience is just amazing. This little mangrove island is so relaxing, you feel like time, days and weeks doesn't count anymore! I could write a lot more about Urraca but I'll let you discover this beautiful paradise by yourself :)

We stayed for one day visiting the area of bocas del toro. Frances is a proud owner and treated us very nice. I loved the fact that we were able to quickly relax and get away. The shower was cold but expected as it was hot outside. The rooms were quaint and had great view of the starfish and other fish. The stars at night seemed surreal. She did a great job transforming mangroves into a mini resort ! Excellent food and ask for her mojitos and piña coladas.
