“Excellent family resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2011

Went with several families with children and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stayed in the luxury rooms which were actually double cottages with a door between the two rooms. The beach in front of the standard rooms was actually better, so not sure what we would choose if we came back. A low number luxury room will put you closer to the best beach and the lovely sundowners bar, but further from the reception and buffet restaurant. We had opted for the b&b option to give ourselves more choice, but the food in the buffet was much better quality.

The snorkelling was out of this world, and the pool area was great as well; good for our toddler who found even the slight waves in the sea a little overwhelming.

All in all, it's a great place for families and good vslue for your mokney. For romantic holiday, I would probably choose one of the more expensive/exclusive resorts.

Room Tip: Ask for a low number luxury room to be close to the best beach/reef anf the Sundowners bar, bur furt...

This was our second trip to the Maldives. Having visited Maldives earlier in December 2007, we were sure we would come back to the Maldives.

This was our most impromptu trip ever. We decided on Friday for a weekend visit starting Saturday. The criteria for selecting the resort this time was beyond the budget the distance from the airport island. And Bandos fitted in very well.

Booked and got the reservations and transfers confirmed within minutes using the Bandos website and we were all ready for our dream weekend.

The transfer to Bandos was smooth, we were met with representatives at the island and within moments of landing, we were whisked away in one of their waiting speedboats. The transfer took less than 20 minutes and we were at Bandos!

It’s a perfect round island and the jetty was right adjacent to the reception, different compared to the usually distant jetty separated by a long pier.

Cold towels and a welcome drink were waiting for us as soon as we alighted and were usher into the reception area. The check-in formalities were quite brisk and within moments we were driven to our room in a golf cart.

We had booked a standard room which usually is in a block of 3-4 room. The view from the room (222) was exceptional with white sand and the azure blue waters just a few meters from your verandah. The beach in front had nice loungers for every room and you could always have a space for yourself there.

The rooms were nice with good air-conditioning and the usual stuff. Though the rooms were as I mentioned in blocks of 3-4, you will not really get disturbed as the sound proofing is quite good and the placement of the verandahs in such a way that you will have your own small private space. There is dense vegetation with tropical plants and flowers everywhere. It is possible that there is dense vegetation in front of some of the rooms and you may not have a direct view to the beach in front of your room. But with a broad stretch of beach almost all around, you will always find a private place for yourself.

Though the standard rooms were at the starting of the range (you have deluxe rooms, Jacuzzi beach villas, water villas - only 2 of them), we thought they were excellent and value for money.

Bandos is one of the larger islands but you can walk around the whole island in about 20 minutes. And we would have done this many times in our short period of stay.

The restaurant was large closer to the reception and the food was good. They have buffet for all meals and the spread was decent..

The bar, Sundowners is the place for your to relax, sit back and enjoy the fabulous sunsets. Late in the evening you can see the lights from distant Male.

There are multiple activities that are arranged at Bandos and we did see other guests enjoying them.

Overall well maintained and clean. The lush green environment makes a contrast to the different shades of blues in the water and makes it a perfect destination to relax and enjoy a peaceful holiday. We noticed a lot of beautiful orchids which added a different look to the resort. The jetty is small but has a shade and one can spend hours sitting there and watching the fishes beneath the bridge.

If you are planning a trip to the Bandos, go ahead, you won't go wrong!

Guys, this island is amazing, we had our honeymoon there and enjoyed every second of it. We stayed in a standard room and the view was just amazing. Lots of sun.. it only rained twice and it was at night :-)

I will definitely visit again as i truly miss it :(

Room Tip: standard rooms for sure :D

I planned this trip after reading a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor for Bandos. Which is exactly why i want to be specific about a few things. While reading these reviews, one needs to be discerning about who's writing. Somethings would be common, so for eg, when the reviews said that Bandos is an amazing Resort with breathtaking views (specially during snorkelling), i couldnt agree more. The snorkelling experience in the house reef (the lagoon immediately surrounding the resort) was out of the world, specially for us as we were doing so for the first time ever. We stayed in the Standard Rooms, which actually are excellent from every point of view (closer and better beaches in front of these compared to deluxe room/garden villa). the only thing better would be the water Villa (only two of them), but considering the costs, Standard room is definitely the best bet.
Food: Overall, food was good. But if you are from the Indian subcontinent, be prepared not to find too much indian cuisine. Nothing against trying out new stuff (did enjoy some of the new dishes i tried), but as i said, it helps if you know from before.
Thanks to the Trip Advisor reviews, we wisely took the Half Board package (Breakfast & Dinner) and carried some snacks from home to use for lunch (no microwaves in standard rooms at least). Be careful as some of the packages arent as they appear. For eg, resort has a 'Stay 4 nights, pay for 3' package. However, the catch is that this is only applicable to the 'only Breakfast' package. Though this seems better budgetwise, it actually isnt. Food outside the packages is quite high priced and it works out cheaper to take the Half Board, even though you pay for all 4 nights.
Events: Snorkelling on the house reef consumes most of the day, and is really the highlight. As per reviews, we took the Dolphin cruise, which was quite nice. We were pre warned not to go for the island hopping tour.
Weather: This is critical. Most of the reviews I read were from friends in Europe who highly recommended the splendid weather...and so thats what i expected. Unfortunately, realised after reaching that it is no doubt great weather...just not for us!..far too hot, far too sunny. Not sure bout temperatures, but it was scorching from morn to evening! It was ok once you entered the water, but quite difficult for the rest. Only early morning and evenings were nice. The hot weather was actually the only bad part of the trip. On asking, we learned that it remains this way througout the year, except for a few months around April-June, when it rains a lot :(. Which means that if you are from the subcontinent, its never going to be good weather for you in the Maldives! of course, if you are European, it is actually great weather for sunbathing, so i completely understand the reviews.

Overall: great place, great snorkelling, hot weather!

Just got back from Bandos last week after staying on the island for a week in a jacuzzi villa. The weather was really good, only rained twice in the evening. The jacuzzi villa was excellent, really spacious and the jacuzzi was wonderful. We stayed half board and found the choice of food to be excellent especially the 'Action Corner' where chefs cooked food and served it, lots of curries and noodles etc.
Bandos itself is a beautiful island, very good for photos and only takes about 20 minutes to walk around. This was our 5th trip to the Maldives so we knew what to expect.
Bandos has a lot of rooms on the island but it did not feel busy! You could walk around the island and only see a few people. The beach on the south of the island (beside the jacuzzi villas) was very nice and not busy, there were always spare sun loungers available.
We went on the night fishing trip which was brilliant and thought it was nice that they cook the fish for free and serve it to you later on in the Sun Downers bar & restaurant. Other islands that I have been to charge you for this service!
We sat at the swimming pool one day (for a change) and were pleasantly surprised when ground maintenance staff, that were cutting coconuts off trees, brought over fresh coconut drinks for everyone in the pool area at that time. I like nice touches like that! The pool area was not busy and there were always plenty of sun loungers available.
The price if drinks on the island was not as bad as we were expecting. A bottle of juice costs approx £3 with all the taxes added on, there are 2 bars which offer 'happy hour' where you get a 25% discount and there were discounted cocktails on offer each day. I was surprised to find that the room boy leaves you 2 bottles of water in your room each day which are free.
I found that staff on the island were very nice and helpful especially our room boy and waiter. Other staff that you walked past would smile and some would say hello.
We also tried the laundry service at Bandos which was 12 dollars for 4 items including taxes and found the service to be very efficient.
Overall we really enjoyed this holiday and would definitely go back one day.

Wondeful Resort...it's been so from the very beginning of my holidays.
It was my first time in the Maldives so I wasn't resolute, I was perplexed about resort to choose..so, initially I went for another one but at the end I found Bandos according to the people feedbacks. And I just can agree with them, now, at the end of the journey. Staff's Courtesy is the best property of Bandos, as well as location, environment, sea... I think it is extremely good for sea activities beginners! I'had never been snorkelling and at Bandos I felt in love with it! Just few metres far from the shore I've been looking Napoleon fishes and sharks for example!! Non dangerous kind of sharks, obviously! What about accomodations?? I chose the standard room, imaging a simple room linked to other rooms...nothing similar! It was an almost independent little house, so a very spacious accomodation, with sofas, value box, conditioning air, minibar, free water and everything you can ask during rest periods! The beach is 10 metres from your bed! Food is various, hygienically perfect, nothing to argue!! Just go and enjoy it! Sport staff and equippment are very professional, easy to practice and they will make you run your time very rapidly!!

Not wishing to rest on the laurels of our existing achievements, Bandos had in the past year undertaken a major refurbishment project with the intention of transforming ourselves into a hotel that is truly reflective of the times. Careful consideration however, was given at all times to ensure that the old-world refinement for which the island has a reputation remained uncompromised. Under the project, major facelifts have been given to the front desk, lobby areas, shops, restaurants and bars and have furthermore commissioned a new swimming pool and additional accommodation facilities all of which perfectly blend with the island’s tropical splendour and give visitors a taste of the Maldivian aesthetic. ... more   less
