“Nice, clean and okay service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

Have stayed at the hotel 4 times and are fairly satisfied with the service. Rooms in no way flashy, one that is clean and everything works, including Internet access.
The breakfast, which is included in the rate, is fine if you'll like beans, bacon, and egg and other hot dishes. In contrast, lack of good and fresh fruit. You have to be lucky if there is fresh mango and wonder in a country where the mango is quite common.
The hotel is situated in the industrial town Tema and is mostly used by businessmen.

Beware: If paying by Credit card at checkout , they add a 5.75% surcharge charge on top of their quoted rates.
Also they convert to local currency and use a lower unpublished conversion rate (2.85 Cedis per Dollar) than what you can get at any forex money exchange booth (3.03 Cedis per dollar) before they charge your credit card at checkout.
They don't tell you this at check-in.
When checking out, the clerk produced a piece of paper from behind her desk and told me that they don't publish the foreign conversion rate in plain view because it would clutter their wall at the counter !

Staff at the pool are friendly. Business Center staff act like you are bothering them when the wifi stops working. The front desk staff seem to be trained to say NO to any small request.
I stayed here for two weeks and noted the following issues that can be improved .
Power failed for 4 hours one night and 18 hours two nights later. They have a generator but it was not working because it needed parts. They did issue a 1/2 day credit due to the extended failure but it was still inconvenient to go without lights, air conditioning and hot water for almost an entire day.
The Wifi only works in the Lobby area (hot in the rooms) and is very unreliable. Speed is OK when it is working. I asked for two additional towels (I offered to pay extra) upon checkin. I was told that they only allocate one towel per guest. Pool water was cloudy the entire two weeks so I would not use it. Plumbing in bathroom (room 149) leaked constantly and toilet kept refilling. I asked them if I could exchange a few dollars for local currency (CEDIs) and was told I had to go to the local shopping center and convert my currency there. Food is OK but there was no visible refrigeration and I don't know how they preserved the food they served during the power failures.
TV in room had a very dark picture (possible missing one of the primary colors) and could not be viewed. Towels smelled sour as if they were rinsed in Urine.
I was in Tema on Business so the location was fine for this purpose. The rate was OK but they could charge a little more per night and fix the issue above to make it acceptable.

This is a great hotel if you have one of the deluxe rooms. Good strong air conditioning with remote control operation. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom adequate.
Breakfast is a little bit 'local' but the setting by the pool is mot enjoyable. Best of all are the staff, so friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a deluxe room like 150 or 255.

I stayed in Hotel Marjorie Y during my trip to Ghana from the US last month. I loved my stay so much because all the staff are very friendly and attentive to all our needs. the pool is great! my kids loved it so much. The room i had was a suite and was large enough for me, my husband and 2 kids. Excellent location as well and the breakfast was great. The airport pick-up and drop off service was very convenient for me and my family as well. The only negative comment i have about my stay was that at one time, i ordered pizza which took about 25 minutes to be served. But it was well worth the wait! My family and i had a wonderful time at hotel Marjorie Y, and i will gladly recommend this place to all my family and friends who visit Ghana.

Room Tip: The second floor is a good choice because the balcony has a great view of the pool area.

We checked- in in the suite which is a family room, we had a living and bed room, a mini kitchen and a balcony by the pool. the hotel is very beautiful with clean environment and spotless sheets which are change every day. The air condition works perfectly and the WiFi is accessible both in the hotel room and in all the sitting areas in the hotel. The staffs are polite and ready to assist you. I really enjoyed their meal especially the Turkish roll which was recently introduced. Orders might delay a bit when the restaurant is busy but i have no problem with that because i understand it perfectly. The pool is cleaned every morning and water is very clear. The hotel receptionists are friendly and have a welcoming attitude. The hotel rates are the cheapest in Tema and the quality of service is "wow" excellent. i doubted when i got to know its a two star hotel because i rated it a four star. This is really a place to be in tema and very easy to locate. I enjoyed my stay in the hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms are up to international standard. Interestingly i had the chance to inspect the rooms...

The hotel is excellent value for money $100 for a double room, probably one of the best value hotels in Tema and Accra. The rooms are quite large with nice furnishings and large bathroom with light up vanitary mirror. The Air Conditioning in the rooms is effective, WI-FI is free, but can be a bit slow at times. The best feature of the hotel is the beautiful pool and seating area around it. The pool was cleaned each morning but did not open until 10am, meaning we could not swim before going out to meetings. It would be good if it opened earlier and perhaps closed earlier as very few people used the pool between 8pm and 10pm

Breakfast was good with a different variety of food each morning, dining menu is good and food is delicious and not over priced.

The front desk staff are very friendly and smiley but at checkout they have the tendency to be slow, this can be frustrating especially when you are on a timescale to reach the airport.
Hotel transfers are free and drivers are friendly and safe, and are on time.

Room service was disappointing we ordered spring rolls and two drinks, we waited for more than 2 hours and when we called the restaurant the gentleman said he could not find the order, we then received a call to our room to say they had found the order and the food would be with us within 10 minutes, 45 minutes later we were still waiting and decided to go out for food.

My partner asked for an iron and ironing board but was told that he would have to send the clothes to the laundry and be charged for them.

We were woken several times before 8.30am by housekeeping (even whilst do not disturb sign was on door) who wanted to clean the room, on one occasion the cleaner even asked my partner if we wanted the room cleaning and look surprised when he said yes, on another occasion the room wasn't cleaned and we had no clean towels and despite asking for them from housekeeping and at the front desk we did not receive them. This needs addressing by Management as is totally unacceptable.

Water (500ml) were supplied daily, but was charged for, however it would have been nice to have coffee and tea making facilities in the room, instead of fizzy drinks in the fridge.

Overall the hotel was good and we look forward to returning and will recommend it to someone looking for a good value hotel, however, with a little more attention to detail by Management this hotel could be very good.
