“Sometimes 'old' is better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2011

Well, not too old naturally, but with character, charm and warmth.. We had been staying in this hotel for about 5 times, before the 'renovation'. Here renovation is another word for destruction - of all charm, of intimacy and atmosphere. However, it is the client who pays through the room price and the dinner..

The rooms are plasterboard where they were stone, the dining room is purple with a green floor and almost empty - where we enjoyed old linen tablecloth and lots of people before. If the hotel had been on the Autoroute at a price of €59,00 as a F1 we would have thought it a treat.. Now it is a business type hotel spoiling a beautiful location with bad service. Where do you have to decide whther you want tea or coffee for breakfast at the dinner table..? Don't go there - take a hotel in Tournus..

Returning after some years, we thought this hotel, which we had greatly enjoyed on previous visits, had sadly declined. The food in the restaurant, once a major attraction, was tired and over complex (as well as over priced). The mark-ups on the wine list were shamelessly excessive, especially as most of the lower priced bottles were sold out. The fittings in the new rooms were shoddy. Shame, really. It was once a really good place to stay.

Good but fairly overpriced hotel in beautiful surroundings (vineyards, medieval village of Brancion). The recently renovated rooms are very clean but a bit on the small side. They all come with a little balcony overlooking the vineyards. We found the beds and the shower to be very comfortable. Food and wines are good to great but not cheap. Expect to pay around 170 euros per room, breakfast (also good but again, a bit overpriced) not included.

There's a nice swimmingpool too.

We revisited this hotel (last there in 2009) to find they had carried out a major renovation. It's true - the rooms needed a makeover but some of the old charm has gone. The prices have increased but fabulous views over the vineyards. The welcome was a little cold and the restaurant service intermittent. Overall a good spot though when driving south.

Fabulous. Quiet, peaceful, spectacular views of contryside and vineyards. Make sure you dine here for dinner. Pricey but the food is true haute' cuisine and the wine sublime. Don't forget to check out the midevial castle. It is haunted by a wild eyed, dark knight that guards the entrance. So much fun!

We stayed at this hotel on our way to and from the South of France in June this year, we usually stay at a chateau but it was fully booked so had to look elsewhere. We booked this place, we have a teenage daughter and a toddler son. We booked a family room for one night on the way out and the so called 'suite' on the way back. The rooms were so dated and tired for the money charged particularly the suite which really was in disrepair with wallpaper having been drawn on and pulled off the walls in some places. The food in the restaurant was very nice but so pricey along with the wine menu. Dinner for three cost us nearly £100 a head including wine (cheapest bottle we could find). Not child friendly. Would not recommend.

The rooms are indifferent and smallish for the prices charged. The charm of the place can wear thin against the backdrop of the prices and service levels. The food is expensive and not nearly as wonderful as it should be for these prices. The Bresse chicken, especially, was a significant disappointment.
The site though, is worth the detour and the proximity to very interesting medieval village of Brancion is an advantage not to be overlooked.
Take your breakfast elsewhere though, €20 for an undercooked 'hard' boiled egg seems a little steep!
