“Refined Style meets Ecological and Traditional Ibiza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Cas Gasi, is a unique property. Its roots are firmly established in local culture and traditional Ibicenco life. The hotel reflects a luxury, homely feel but with a touch of individual style. It successfully blends the Islands rich architectural, design and history, with modern comforts and contemporary living. Not an easy task in Ibiza. Old antiques and curiosities, fit comfortably with wifi, decked swimming pools, sauna and its pristine gym. Manicured gardens, boasting their own roses, lemons, oranges and flowers, sent the air around the 18th Century, traditional, Ibicenco building.

Its the attention to detail, by its owners, that makes the difference at Cas Gasi. They have lovingly restored the old house, paying respect to the Islands heritage and proud culture. Its a fine example of local hospitality and real Ibiza life and its host Margaret, deserves a lot of credit for showcasing the best of local culture, with a touch of finesse added. Duck down pillows and duvets, sumptuous mattresses and stylish finishes in all the sabina wood ceiling rooms, reflect the quality feel of the place. The magnificent fireplace in the main house, for me, was a real centrepiece. The homely atmosphere is complimented by many old books and family photos along with a grand piano that sits in the living area.

The Food is all home cooked and simple, utilising the fresh ingredients from Cas Gasi's own ecological gardens. Free range eggs, olive oil, jams and vegetables, are all produced on the farm. Ask for the owners home cooked, fresh fish dish. The hotel even makes its own rose flavoured gin! The gym at Cas Gasi, is probably the best I have seen on the Island of Ibiza. Modern, well kept equipment, looking out over the countryside, through large glass panels. The steam rooms, hydro massage and sauna are also in very good nick. There is always a feeling of efficiency and management around the place. Children are welcome but it may not be suitable for them, as its mostly couples and individuals relaxing in the peaceful countryside, while enjoying the Islands many attractions.

The location of Cas Gasi is another asset of the Hotel. Very well signposted and easy to find, along good roads. Its about a 20 minute taxi ride from Ibiza town or San Antonio and two of the Island most famous nightclubs, Amnesia and Privilege, are less than ten minutes away in the local village of San Rafel. The nearby village of Santa Gertrudis is full of little artisan restaurants (make sure to visit Destino for scrumptious, modern twist, tapas) and galleries. Nearby San Mateu, is also worth a visit for its local wines and country side produce. Check out the courtyard of Can Cires bar and restaurant there. The area is a gateway to the beautiful countryside of Ibiza, the one that is hidden from the tourist trail and only found by people who appreciate what the real Ibiza has to offer.

This is a fantastic hotel.

The location is perfect - just far enough from Ibiza town and other built up areas in order to feel rural but not too far away so that taxi rides home are not too expensive. The staff and friendly and helpful without ever getting in your way. The rooms are really well appointed and are sufficiently varied so as to cater for individuals, couples and those with children or larger groups. The surroundings are superb - not least because there appears to be a small army of gardeners attending to the plants throughout the day!

Having tried a number of different places in Ibiza, I would not stay anywhere else on the island.

This is probably not the hotel to stay in if you are looking for somwhere within walking distance of the large clubs, etc but is exactly the place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing, friendly environment which is never to far from anywhere but at the same time far enough away from it all.

We stayed at Cas Gasi for two nights. We wish we could have stayed for longer. It's a beautiful place and, unlike a few other Agroturismo's we've stayed in, it didn't feel dark, but fresh and light and we had a gorgeous view from our first floor balcony and a gorgeously comfortable bed. The grounds are beautiful and the ecological garden begs to be painted just by itself. The breakfast was lovely and thank God, at last we've found some freshly squeezed orange juice. Yes, strangely, in a land full of oranges, there are still some places (Can Gall for example) that do not. Its also only a few minutes from Santa Gertrudis which is a proper little village with a square and has lots of very nice and varied little shops, cafes and restaurants. We will definitely come again, though I may have been put off if we hadn't been part of a promotion giving us a 20% discount, as on first reading it looked a little on the expensive side. Without doubt the loveliest place we have stayed in in Ibiza - would highly recommend!

Room Tip: Would recommend a first floor room as the gorgeous view can be much better appreciated from up-high.

This stay was a real shame. I visited Cas gasi 6 weeks ago when I was staying in the far better Can Lluc (see other review) and popped in to choose the room that would be suitbale for my wife and our daughter. One family room was suitable and one was not. The duty manager noted this and we subsequently made a booking for 3 nights 6 weeks later. When we arrived we were disappointed to note that we had been given the dreary family room which we had not requested.

Not only was this the wrong room but had little natural light, half a curtain missing to the children's area (which was noted by the owner at the time but not sorted till I complained a 2nd time and only the night before we left. The room had the view of the car park with little terrace space. The level of room cleaning is poor in the hotel with limited attention to detail.

By contrast my brother in law had a suite in the same price category which ws very nice with large outside space , lovely views and large sitting area. This disparity is not acceptable at E600 at night!

I wish now I had given Can Lluc a 4 circles score. The breakfast was unimaginative, with cold eggs in heated unit. fresh eggs were available to order however this was never offered unless you asked.

The laundry service is the most expensive I have seen anywhere in the world. E12 for a pair of trousers and E8 for a T shirt. This was not even dry cleaning!

To add to this my18 month old baby was not made welcome by the owner of the hotel although this may have been a misunderstanding with my wife.

The shower screeen of our bath had no silicone or guard on it so water poured over the bathroom floor each time. I told them twice about this but nothing was done.

The only positive of this place is the food quality at lunch and dinner as it is the best of the Agroturismos in Ibiza and I have stayed at Can Lluc, Es Cucons and Atzarro. Also the staff are pleasant and service levels are good generally.

The main issue still relates back to poor communication from the duty manager to owner from a visit that was only six weeks apart to choose our room. The suty manager admitted she noted our preferences down but failed to communicate this to the owner.

In the end we were offered a discount to a room category below our room although I just asked for them to take one night off at the current rate which was slightly more discounted. To be fair I should have asked for more of a discount but did not have the energy or inclination for a lengthy debate. In the end it's not about the money for me, I would have gladly paid E300 more per night to get what I wanted and what was originally agreed. Owner Margaret tried to sort things out and is pleasant but was too late and the damage to our trip could not be undone.

Try the villas at Can Lluc or the top suite at Es Cucons which are far better in this category of accommodation.

Room Tip: choose recently refurbished junior suite

Thank you for taking your time to share your experiences at the Gas Gasi Hotel & Agroturismo in Ibiza. We are very happy that you felt satisfied with the quality of food which is offered in our restaurant and with our staff and service level.
We feel really sorry about the misunderstanding regarding your room. Our duty manager didn’t pass the information on to the reservations office as it was not a formal reservation yet and she understood that you would mention specifically the desired room number when reserving. As this was not the case, our reservations team chose the room of the category requested nearest to the Junior Suite your brother in law had booked, trying to foretell the situation you would be happiest with. As we were fully booked for the whole time of your stay, unfortunately we couldn’t offer you an alternative room or an upgrade, and fully agreed to charge only two of the three nights.
In regard to the difference between the Junior Suite and the Family Room, having the same rate, they are different categories. The Junior Suite sleeps 2p and is one single space with a private garden, where as the Family Room sleeps 4p.in two separate spaces, being very convenient for families. We are shocked that you had the feeling that your room was overlooking a car park, as our parking area is at the entrance of the property. Only the guests of your room and another room nearby are allowed to park there, for convenience’s sake. We appreciate your comment, and have separated the space to park these cars in such a way that they shall not disturb the view on the gardens with palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation in front of your room.
We have immediately taken action to discuss internally the issues in regard to housekeeping and maintenance. It is a top priority for us that the comfort and the cleanliness of the rooms meet fully the guest’s expectations, and your feedback, either positive or negative, is of utmost importance to us.
Cas Gasi offers an exclusive laundry service on the premises to its guests, using the water of its own well and environment friendly soaps, as well as an individual ironing service by hand. An official price list is placed in each room for the guests to check.
In regard to breakfast, please accept our sincere apologies. We offer an extremely long breakfast time, from 08:30am to 12:00 noon, and therefore a lot of attention needs to be put into keeping the adequate temperatures of cold and hot dishes, as well as in passing all relative information to the guests when at breakfast for the first time. Of course we will take actions and discuss this internally to guarantee an optimized choice and quality of breakfast.
Cas Gasi is a truly fantastic place for children and families are very much welcome, but it is not a children’s hotel. We like to say this as we also have other guests staying with us with may be different priorities and we need to rely on a tolerant and respectful interrelation in this small but so varied, cosmopolitan and multicultural community.
Our aim is to make you feel at home and welcome at our hotel and so we are really shocked that we could not create this feeling to you. We are proud to call ourselves “a hotel for people who don’t like hotels” and this means also to get a connection to our guests and create a very special feeling. I truly hope that you will give us a second chance to show you that we can really do MUCH BETTER. Please feel free to contacting me personally at any time and I will take care of all your reservations in the future.
I really hope that we will have the chance seeing you with us again!
Best wishes from Ibiza,

Margaret von Korff

The hotel feels a bit like a the kind of destination to go to in order to rejuvenate quietly. The property is lovely and quite private. The hotel certainly isn't luxurious but is comfortable and blends well with the natural surroundings. As for negatives, there were too many children at the hotel during my stay....they weren't misbehaved but the noise level was noticeable at the swimming pool which otherwise would have been quite peaceful. Also, the design of the swimming pool would have been much more beautiful with an infinity edge as if ever there were a perfect location to have this sort of design this is it due to the location and setting. Another issue is that there were quite a lot of flies at the location of the hotel....the flies swarmed around the breakfast buffet and the dining tables and were actaully quite aggressive....they were also an irritant while at the swimming pool....this was unfortunate as it really did detract from the otherwise generally peaceful setting. Additionally, there is a separate cottage on the property which is away from the main building...the cottage is rented as a typical room would be.....this cottage has the potential to be the most desirable on the property with a minimal investment....large glass doors perhaps leading out to a lovely maintained garden with terrace...some improvement in the interior design of the cottage would help....expand the separate bath building a bit so that it is a proper bathroom with bathtub and shower and also with large glass doors perhaps looking into a private garden.....presently the cottage is very basic, feels dark and is a bit dreary. Otherwise, the hotel is lovely and the staff pleasant and welcoming.....the only other item missing is a tennis court as everything else is accounted for including a suitable gym.

Thank you very much for your review and for your nice words about our location! We cannot thank you more, too, for your constructive critics as this is the best way to show us that you care that we do better!
You mention the flies at breakfast: this is fortunately a puntual problem which arose only once due to the extreme heat and the biological cycle of the flies, and took also us by surprise! It lasted just for a few days, we are sorry that it gave you the impression that this is a usual issue: we can gladly confirm that it is not.
In regard to the infinity edge of the pool, you are right, it would look amazing, with views over the gardens and hills.... Unfortunately due to security reasons we are not allowed to have it.
We cannot agree more with you about the tennis court. We are trying to buy a plot of land just beside, and will hopefully be able to have a tennis court in due time.
Thank you also for your words regarding the cottage. We are delighted to hear thay you enjoyed your stay there, we are very happy that you liked it and your improvement suggestions will be included in our renovation plans!
We take good notice of your comments regarding children. We are open to everybody as long as consideration and tolerance keeps in balance and we need to keep it working. We will have to monitor this more carefully and some improvements are under way already.
Please be so kind and contact me directly if you ever plan to come back to Ibiza so I can personally take care of your reservation.
Thanks and best regards from sunny Ibiza

Cas Gasi is exactly the sort of hideaway I love. Understated elegance everywhere, beautiful grounds, immaculate rooms cared for in every detail. What a comfortable bed!
I love the way you could spend days here just picking out a book to read from the lounge, or a dvd, or even any sort of magazine.
All this 'entertainment' is available for guests.
It is not cheap but you get what you pay for, mainly an educated clientele and a very peaceful environment.
I do think a place like this should not allow young children but its up to the owners.
If I were to make a constructive criticism my lunch was nothing special, but I did not eat enough to make a proper judgement.
What did annoy me is that when I asked for some white wine my glass was filled (both times) with a very small amount (say 1/4 nearly 1/2 less than a normal bar or restaurant).
It is a small but significant detail that I am sure the lovely and welcoming owner will want to correct.

Thank-you Cas Gasi...peaceful heaven in what has been for me a quite chaotic island..but I would have loved the island in your beautiful black and white photo books of 'Eivissa' from the fifties and sixties! Will try to come back in early june...

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience at Cas Gasi! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are very happy that you noticed the small details we care of and which you positively mention. The more important it is to us that you also mention other details which could be better. Our restaurant is well known for its fantastic food, fresh mediterranean cuisine with our own organic grown vegetables, best fish and meat, only for our guests. Therefore we are going to review our daily suggestions for improvement. In regard to the wine glass fillings, we are very sorry about this and internal instructions have already been given.
We appreciate your comment about children. In general, we are open to all kind of people, as, from a liberal point of view, we believe that based on consideration and tolerance there will be always an appropiate balance. We need to keep this balance working and will introduce some improvements.
Thank you again, and we hope to see you next summer at Cas Gasi.
Warm regards,
Margaret von Korff

My wife and I stayed at Cas Gasi for 5 nights. We had a wonderful time courtesy of Margaret and her team. They are charming, professional and very helpful with everything onsite as well as outside bookings, recommendations, reservations (effectively a really top-class hospitality team and done so in a very chatty informal way). The food is delicious and well-prepared - with a great breakfast. The pool area and gardens are delightful and well-maintained. You couldn't wish for a better overall location, amenities and environment. It is, of course, pretty pricey... But, hey.
If I was groping around for a couple of 'constructively critical' observations: First, Cas Gasi feels like it is set up as an adult-centric boutique hotel, but quite a few families stay too. Which is fine, but... when there are families around, it gets pretty hectic and noisy around the pool. Not always that restful on the loungers. Second, we felt our room was a little spare / a little austere for what you are paying for.
These points aside, overall, a rave review. Love the place, love the staff. The only worry is that too many people discover Cas Gasi and make it impossible to rebook and stay again!
