We spent 13 days at the Club Cameleon Jibacoa and it was truly a lovely vacation. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, the food was very good, and we enjoyed a wide range of leisure activities. It is definitely worth taking advantage of the activities offered -- free peddle boats, cycling, hiking and snorkeling.
Any trip is what you make of it, and with the services and friendliness offered at the club Cameleon, without doubt anyone can enjoy a wonderful, well-rounded time there.
The Havana special excursion, including the Tropicana show is definitely worth the price, even when compared to hiring a cab and personal guide. The Tropicana show is spectacular and an authenic taste of Cuban culture. If you're lucky, the bottle of rhum that accompanies the show will be a 7 year old rum!
This resort is well-suited to those looking to relax in a down-to-earth environment surrounded more by nature and local Cuban life. Good for families, young singles and adventuring spirits alike.
This really is not the place to go if you're looking for a wilder party scene and buoyant city nightlife with clubs and discoteches.
After the usual initial discomfort of acclimatizing to a new place, Club Cameleon felt like being at home, and we enjoyed the easy camaraderie with the staff and other tourists, which made the vacation even better.

Just got back from Cameleon club Jibacoa (used to be called tropico). Stayed dec 4-11 .
BEACH has good snokelling, 2 ft. from shore and you'll see the fishes hiding under the rocks, the only downside is there are portugese jellyfish everywhere. there's a jellyfish victim everyday, so if you're allergic to them don't go in the waters. Bring vinegar, calamine lotion and anti-histamine in case you become a victim. My husband became a victim, even when I was standing watch over him while he snorkels. we went to the bar to ask for vinegar, instead they brought us to the clinic. It cost 15 cuc for the treatment which consisted of soaking the affected area with warm water and vinegar, then applying calamine lotion on it , then drinking a anti histamine tablet.. During 7 day stay the sun appeared only once so tanning was out too.
SERVICE was very good. there are only 100 rooms so the staff tends to get to know you .
FOOD was tasty as compared to Villa Cojimar in Cayo Coco where we stayed in in May. 1 fish dish, 1 chicken dish,1 pork dish ,pasta and salad and pizza but they are all edible so we gain 5 lbs!
ROOM is good, the bathroom fixtures are new, the bed is hard and they provide 1 flat pillow per person so call reception to request additional pillows
ANIMATION is so so, some comedy skits are x-rated, a couple with a kid left before the show is over . we never saw them watch the animation again.

Sometimes things just seem to go right all the way. After leaving Vancouver in a snow storm, arrived at this beautiful spot with a real great bunch of fellow Canucks. Having the place to ourselves for a couple of days before the next planeload, we quickly mingled and this added to the positive side of everything.

The absence of all the noisy water sports was for me a real highlight. We could snorkle out to the reef without getting run over by a seadoo or boat. Went out twice with a paddle boat scuba diving, and at 30 pesos it doesn't get much cheaper than that. Great dives, not too deep, but lots to see. Thanks to Francisco and Jose. Great team.

The staff were fantastic, and service couldn't have been better. Friendly and sincere, don't know how they stayed that way putting in the long days they do.

Food was ok, a bit repititous, but given the price of the package, I am sure not going to complain.

All in all, if one is looking for a quiet and easy going place that allows children, and is only an hour from Havanna, then you really can't go wrong with this one

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Cameleon Jibacoa. I would recommend this to people who don't want to party but just want to enjoy the area, beaches and no crowds and who enjoy a rural Cuba.
There is only about 100 rooms top so the resort is very quiet. Mostly Canadians with some other Spanish people. You soon get to know everyone in the area.

THE ROOMS were comfortable. Shower only but it was a large shower. T.V. had about 5 English channels. The room had a mini fridge for your water. Air condition worked well. Ask for an extra pillow if you want one cause they give you one each. Bring a facecloth.

THE BARS were never crowded. The Lobby bar was the best! Rudy and Pedro made the best drinks with perfection! The bars open around 10am and go til 11 or midnight. Best to bring your own container as you get the little plastic ones. The lobby serves real glass if you sit there and plastic to go. We spent most of the time there since it's near the beach/washrooms too!!

THE BEACH is alright. I've seen better but the sand was nice and the snorkling was great. Take a peddle boat out to the reef and jump off and snorkle away! You can also see fish right off the beach too. If the water is calm go when you can. We had a lot of windy days so the water could be rough but we had plenty of time to snorkle!

THE TOURS. Take advantage of the free hike from the hotel. You hike up to the mountain and get a good view of the beach and area. You also see Breezes next door. They walk through a farm, so take stuff for the people. They give you drinks and coconuts etc. It's free and 2 X a week. Take advantage of the free bikes. They need a bit of repair but they are usuable. Go were you want up the roads. Just take them, no sign up needed. The scooter tour is available in the morning for 15 pesos for 3 hours, or the afternoon for 12 pesos for 2 hours. You have to walk over to the Breezes to sign up or watch for the scooter guy in the morning at the resort. They take you on various tours each day. We went to Santa Cruz. We did a walk through the town and they show you a ration store, churches, cemetaries etc. Very educational and cheap. There is no insurance so be sure you are wanting to go cause you do go at your own risk. No one in our group had problems. We took the tour to Havana. 51 pesos per person from 9:30-5:30. Lunch included. It goes to Old Havana, drives through New Havana, Stops at Revelutionary square and the Capitol area.
We also took the Jeep tour. that was 69 pesos per person. It includes two caves. One is a fresh water cave you snorkle in. We stopped at a beach and walked around. We were supposed to snorkle but the surf was too bad. We went to an old coffee plantation and had lunch. We also stopped at a scenic bridge and drove through Mantanza. There are many tours from the resort but these are all we did.

TAXI's are available from the resort for 90 pesos for 6 hours. Some went to Havana, some people went other places We also rented a taxi with 2 other couples and went for 12 hours to Pintar Del Rio. That was just too long of a day and wouldn't recommend it only because of the time. But it was a nice area to visit.
If you do rent one on your own and not through the tour guy at the lobby make sure to meet him on the other side of the security gate because the tour guy in the lobby will turn him away because he didn't set it up and didn't get he money!! It happened!!

FOOD - as all the resort reviews, the food was OK. We didn't starve in any way. If you are a vegatarian I would think you may have problems. Every meal was fish, pork and chicken. They had bacon every day for breakfast and then the next week they didn't. One week they had ice cream the next week they didn't. It's hit and miss I think. They did have squeezed orange juice every day so that was nice.

OTHER things.
There are lots of dogs and cats at the resort. Please feed them. I brought cat food from home, and they enjoyed it more than the leftovers so if you like cats brings snacks. The dogs are so bad looking you can't help but feed them. There are a few that are so cute they get lots so please feed the not so cute ones.
The people at the resort only make 17-25 pesos a month. Please bring things. Give things to the workers that don't get stuff. They appreciate it. I gave the life guard some sunglasses and he was so grateful, and got drinks for the guys picking up the seaweed and the smiles were great. Try to tip not just the guys that would get it!

anything else you want to know email me I will try to help.
