My wife and I have just returned from Jibacoa where we stayed from Mar 14, 2003 to Mar. 21, 2003. We have been to two other Cuban all inclusives and many in Mexico on both sides. We had a wonderful time. We liked the resort, the walk in snorkeling was one of the main reasons for choosing this place and we snorkeled every day. We found the buffet staff to be very kind and attentive and made good friends with three of them. The local excursions where both informative and fun. There are a variety of activities to please everyone from the couch potato to the very active, including free scuba diving. The scooter tours where cheap and the people (Javier and Adrian) both super guys. Bar help were friendly but they are busier so we didn't become too close with any of them. We did tip almost everyone...a dollar or three for a Cuban goes a long way for them. You know from their lack of cars and from looking at their homes that their disposable income is very small. They appreciated gifts of soccer balls, baseballs, good quality running shoes, razors, etc. without compromising their pride if given in a discrete manner. We are looking forward to going again to this resort where it will feel like revisiting friends. As for the buffet, no one should go to Cuba expecting North American gourmet food( is that an oxymoron?) but we enjoyed the food especially the fresh orange juice. I am a vegan and found them very good at labelling and keeping meat etc. out of lots of dishes. A great job.

Not too sure if the hotel was the problem with our vacation? But, my long-distance boyfriend (in Vancouver) and I stayed at Breezes Jibacoa. This was our first vacation away together and we expected to be the vacation of a lifetime. The resort is very isolated and since the weather was aweful for the full 7 days we were there, there were not many indoor or alternative plans for the bad weather. The food was so so, but as it was our first time in Cuba our impression was not something to write home about. However, on a good note the rooms were bright, clean and comfortable, and the pool was beautiful....if only the weather had been good and the company a little nicer.

Our first visit to Cuba, March 9-16. The hotel grounds, rooms and situation are excellent, to wake up to singing birds, swaying palms and the mountain background is wonderful. At first glance the buffet restaurant (where you will eat most often), is great...as the week progresses you will most likely change your mind. Cubans seem very partial to serving sliced ham (not Black Forest!) at breakfast. Subsequent meals become a game of "Where's Waldo" as you try to see where the uneaten ham turns up next. The meals are generally o.k. but there is pretty much the same choice for each meal. "Lobster Night", (usually Thursday), was to be the highlight for my wife and I..but..I think our lobsters hitchhiked from Nova Scota, and died of dehydration on the way! Forget, forget, forget the specialty restaurants! particularly if there was a wedding that day, you will find yourself a member of a celebration..(that's where the reception dinners are held), but will be behind the other celebrants by several litres of alcohol! Our opinions of the staff are mixed....some were genuine..pleasant, smiling, but despite the no tipping rule of the resort, others were quite unpleasant in a very subtle way..order a drink..no tip.. the drink is placed just far enough away to make you reach over to pick it up....( I know the poverty is rampant...but believe me, the staff leave each day with enough gifts to open up a small store.) If the no tipping rule is in place, it should mean that, rather than create a double standard of service. Finally, the beach. Advertised as "kilometres" of beach, they must have used a micrometer to stretch it to over one km. To the west is a Cuban farm, and to the east a Cuban "resort" Cubans, (from the farm) used the resort beach quite freely. I am no racist, but if I book at an "Adult Only" facility, I don't want to hear screaming or shouting children, or have to swim through the, (sorry!) "hawk" of their parents..which seems to get me wrong, we did enjoy ourselves, but I felt we had to mention details that I did not read in any other reviews....(and no, we're not picky people!)

Breezes Jibacoa is an above average resort. It is a newly built resort, only 4 years old. The resort is very clean all around. The landscaping is pleasureable. The food is fantastic. There was lobster on Thursday during the buffet for all you seafood lovers. The entertainment was good and enjoyable. Drinks were superb as well - premium drinks are included, eg, grand marnier, AG whikey. It is an all around good resort that is secluded and away from the beatten path. It is not a big party place for the young people. We had a great time and would recommend it.One recommedation is to bring bug replenant. Those nasty bugs bite ya at the beach!

March 2-9 2003 was our second trip to Breezes Jibacoa. If you are looking for great weather, rest and relaxation then this is the place to be. This resort is small enough that you get to know staff and other guests. The food is good, staff are friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable, the grounds are well kept. This is not a late night party place. If you participate in all of the available activities throughout the day then by midnight you are ready to hit the sheets and get ready for the next day. You are only a one hour drive from Havana which is a must see. (how can you go to Cuba without spending some time in Havana?). We are already planning a return trip in Mar/April '04.
