My wife and I have just returned from Jibacoa where we stayed from Mar 14, 2003 to Mar. 21, 2003. We have been to two other Cuban all inclusives and many in Mexico on both sides. We had a wonderful time. We liked the resort, the walk in snorkeling was one of the main reasons for choosing this place and we snorkeled every day. We found the buffet staff to be very kind and attentive and made good friends with three of them. The local excursions where both informative and fun. There are a variety of activities to please everyone from the couch potato to the very active, including free scuba diving. The scooter tours where cheap and the people (Javier and Adrian) both super guys. Bar help were friendly but they are busier so we didn't become too close with any of them. We did tip almost everyone...a dollar or three for a Cuban goes a long way for them. You know from their lack of cars and from looking at their homes that their disposable income is very small. They appreciated gifts of soccer balls, baseballs, good quality running shoes, razors, etc. without compromising their pride if given in a discrete manner. We are looking forward to going again to this resort where it will feel like revisiting friends. As for the buffet, no one should go to Cuba expecting North American gourmet food( is that an oxymoron?) but we enjoyed the food especially the fresh orange juice. I am a vegan and found them very good at labelling and keeping meat etc. out of lots of dishes. A great job.
