Well I travelled from March 22 to March 29 with a very large group of 60 people and what an experience it was. I had a beach view room with an amazing view everyday and it was very clean. The beach was breath taking and because it is so big you always had your own space. The pool is also fantastic very large and lots of chairs. I like to be busy on my vacation and I could always find something to do, but there are also lots of people just sitting quietly reading or tanning so there is the best of both worlds.
The food is good with a wide selection but there is not a lot of taste with the exeption of the breads (awesome) and anything with chocolate for the desserts. Nelson makes a great omelet in the morning and freshly made paste & sauce for lunch is also very good. You will definately not starve. The Italian restaurant was exceptionally good all the food seem to have lots of taste and flavours..it's a must try!!
The pool bar definitely makes the best drinks at the resort and it is well worth the walk from the beach to get them.
The staff is great very friendly and fun, an Hole and a Garcias go a long way. If you are thinking of things to bring for the staff as gifts all personal items such as: razors, panty hose, tampons, deodorant, tooth brushes & paste, toilet paper, kleenex, lip sticks, make up, perfume samples, toys, puzzle books, spanish books, gum, peanut butter & crackers, candies, chocolate bars, any thing you can think of that you use on a regular basis they appreciate they don't expect it but they are thankful. Zip lock bags are a great thing to fill with things and leave for them. Remember to there are staff memebers like the kitchen staff, entertainment staff and grounds crew that do not get tips or gitfs if you would like to give them gifts you can put different things in the large zip lock bags and give it to one and ask them to share it. Again not expected but it does make you feel good to give back.
The trips off the resort are very interesting and certainly made me appreciate how fortunate we are in Canada. I did the Havana trip and learned a great deal about the Cuban way of life and their history...well worth it. Take a roll of toilet paper with you when you travel off the resort. It is almost overwhelming when you are off the resort to see the poverty but if you are thinking of giving to people take extra CUP's for the ones who want you to take their picture, you will come across school children and they love to get bubble gum, silly pencils, note books, sandles, toys...etc..all things you can get at the dollar store. Again the little zip lock bags are very handy to put things in to hand out or just to carry them around in. This is a great way to give your tour guide and bus driver a gift also if you choose. Again it is not expected but very appreciated.
There were 60 of us on this trip and I didn't hear one complaint about the resort, the staff, or the accomidations...that says a lot I think. We took a vote and have decided we would love to come back to this resort next year...because it can and did accomodate all of our needs the entire stay. Enjoy your stay and your Cuban experience! You will come home with a greater appreciation of our every day way of life and how the little things are a great part of that!!!
