We had been to Cuba before--Varadero Beach, but preferred Jibacoa. The activities were endless, and there was something for everyone. The staff were so much fun and had incredible amounts of energy. Since we snorkel, it was great having a decent coral reef right out front. We found the food to be perfectly fine---between the egg man in the morning and the pizza and pasta man at lunch, we enjoyed most of your meals......especially the beach BBQ's! (the fruit and the orange juice had so much fresh flavour----what a treat). We like the layout of the place---everything was so convenient. The excursions were cheaper and handier that at Varadero.
There was only one disappointing thing---on Oct 21 someone took my jacket. It was part of a 3 piece set. It could only been 1 of 2 groups---locals/staff or a Canadian. We brought in $100 of medical aid to the local church....so I hope it wasn't the staff---but, if it was a Canadian---I'm very embarrassed for us. So, whoever took it I hope you needed it!
I would still go back to this place in a heartbeat---it was great!

My husband and I have just returned from a fortnight at this hotel and we had a wonderful holiday. Our ocean view room was great, clean spacious with fantastic views. The food was OK not the best we have had in a Cuban hotel, but plenty of choice.
A great location to visit Havana which we did with a local guide I booked before we went, he was recommended on the tripadvisor forum and was excellent.
I highly recommend the scooter tours and a walk around the local countryside. We did go to Varadero on the shopping trip and were a little disappointed as we visited the smallest market and only had 20 mins. We did spend time on the beach and were so glad we were not staying there, Jibacoa is MUCH better.
The dive center could do with some new equipment, many leaking valves and hoses, but a great experience and so cheap.
Fantastic snorkelling though, If you do have your own mask snorkell and fins bring them with you.
We have visited Cuba before, stayed at the Sol rio de luna and mares in Guardalavaca, and although the reviews are not as positive for this resort on tripadvisor we prefered it to Jibacoa, but only slightly! We would possibly return to this hotel just for the chance to visit Havana again, but will visit Cuba again as we love the friendly easy going people.

  • Liked — Clean and great views
  • Disliked — Maybe a beach bar open in the evening would be nice to have a romantic candlelite drink

Visited the BJ last week with my friend and my 24 year old son, who has learning difficulties. What can I say? It lived up to all reviews and expectations and we thought it was a perfect place for total relaxation. The staff were wonderful - friendly and helpful with my son, especially the very competent Cubanacan rep in reception....nothing too much trouble.
We had a free upgrade to an ocean view room, and would definitely ask (and pay) for this in future - the beach and ocean are literally just across the immaculate lawn in front of the rooms.

The food: edible but not very interesting, despite being plentiful. I think additions of fresh garlic and virgin olive oil might help in cooking, but don`t know if these are available in Cuba.

Trips: we took 2 -
1st - Full day to Havana with Tropicana - worth the cost for a first experience, and the Tropicana was magnificent. Our lunch at the 1830 restaurant and dinner at the Miramar Hotel were awful, and we were actually hungry. Could not wait for the snack at the Tropicana! Don`t miss the open arts and crafts market behind the cathedral, and if you stop near the capitol building, there is a cigar factory very near by.
2nd - Shopping in Varadero - worth it just to find out that we will not be going to Varadero to stay!

Only other very small disappointment was that the karaoke included in the entertainment programme took place in the nightclub after 11.30pm. My son was really looking forward to it, but it was far too late for him.

Overall a fab intro to Cuba. If I was going again I would go for 2 weeks, hire a car and tour around ending up with a few days at the BJ.

  • Liked — Low rise buildings and relaxing ambience
  • Disliked — Miles from anything else
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don`t forget your insulated cup and insect bite cream!

My new wife and I had a fantastic experience at Breezes Jibacoa. The key word that I would use to describe the resort is relaxing.

It was relaxing because you could drink the water straight out of the taps without getting sick

It was relaxing because you could always find something good to eat in the restaurant.

It was relaxing because the rooms were clean, everything worked, and there was always enough hot water (although we did tend to share the shower a lot ;-)

It was relaxing because you could always find a chair at the beach or at the pool

...the music was gentle

...the staff smiled a lot

...the animators weren't in your face

...no beach salespeople

...no ads for anything anywere (all over Cuba!)

...snorkeling was a dream

...the shows were so campy that it just felt good to be there

...no rug rats or ankle biters

I would definitely go back!

I visited Breezes with my husband from Sept 14th for 2 weeks upon recommendation from a colleague and it certainly lived up to expectation!

The reception staff weren't overly enthusiastic upon arrival (but I was exepcting that after reading these reviews) and despite asking for a first floor room (just in case the spider stories were true - they weren't but we did get a huge crab trying to get into our room!) we were told there were none available. When we asked the next day, we were told it was full depsite it being obvious only around half of the resort was occupied. BUT, the room we had was fine - clean, airy, huge bed and good air-con. Incidentally, we were asked to move rooms (to a much nicer first floor room with a pool view) a few days later due to problems with air con in our block! So, we were more than happy with that.

On the whole, the staff were friendly. The food was OK in the buffet but often not very hot unless cooked to order. Still very nice though. The A La Carte restaurants were very nice though (and I think this was a one off) on our second visit to the Cuban place, the service was appaling and we were served by a waitress who didn't seem to know what she was doing - we weren't offered drinks for about 15 minutes and when our meals arrived, they were shoved in front of us, no smiles...but the Italian was fantastic. We gave the two waiters in there a big tip before we left. The service had been excellent (as had the wine and food!).

Cocktails on tap all the time was brilliant. The Thermos cups came very much in handy - kept our drinks cold on the beach for ages) We spent most evenings in the piano bar (avoiding the live entertainment which was cheesy even by Butlins' standards, but OK if you like that kind of thing!). We met lots of nice couples, mainly from the UK and hit it off with Nathan and Claire from Nottingham who we've kept in touch with. Memories of star gazing on the beach from the sunbeds, very late nights drinking and rading the hot snacks bar and a 3am jacuzzi dip! Excellent!

We did a scooter tour which was great fun - definitely worth it! And the dolphin catamaran tour was brill - free bar, a visit to a gorgeous white sandy beach and swimming with dolphins! We also did the Havana Special Tour which was just for the day but included the Tropicana show - a MUST! That was proper entertainment - top class artists in an open air theatre with free rum! Brilliant.

Great beach and the warmest sea I've swam in. Weather was great too - only rained once. Sunny the rest of the time (humid at night but you get used to it!).

Some of this might sound negative but I do have high expectations after doing lots of travelling...on the whole, we had a very enjoyable and relaxing time. I would highly recommend it. Cuba is unlike anywhere else I've seen - very lush - and is definitely worth a visit for something a bit different. Very reasonably priced for the standard of service, accommodation and facilities.
