Excellent Peaceful and Relaxing Hotel in a Beautiful setting
My husband and I have just returned from 10 nights at Breezes Jibacoa. Firstly thankfully we travelled with Virgin! – If you are flying from the UK, and want to get to the Cuba in 8-10 hours rather than 30 – do not fly Cubana, as I heard lots of terrible stories about them.
Rather than repeating what others have said, I would just like to say that for what you pay to stay in this hotel, it is well worth the money. If you want a five star hotel you should pay double the money. This hotel I would rate as a very good four star hotel, the location is very pretty and remote, food was excellent and there was plenty of choice, with some vegetarian options. Rooms were not luxurious, but comfortable and facilities and services very good. Lots to do at no cost, with paid trips available if you wish. The weather (24th November – 5th December) was sunny and hot most days, with no rain at all.
Just a few points
•Take a thermal cup for drinks, they are about £3 from a camping/hardware shop (if you don't you will regret it, as the cups are very small and plastic)
•Take a mat to put on top of the sun beds, as when sun-bathing on your front, the beds are very uncomfortable. (towels are free)
•Book the Cuban and Italian restaurants when you arrive. We had no trouble getting in to the Italian twice in ten days, and out of choice did not want to eat in the Cuban Restaurant, but they do get busy, if the resort is full.
•Do not pay extra for a poolside room, as they can be noisy, we were in a garden room 1146 and it was very quite and pretty and close to both the beach and all the facilities. Beds are medium hard and very comfy.
•Take some mosquito repellent (although for someone who normally gets bitten, I only got a few bites)
•Be careful in the sea when it’s rough; as the sea can wash in jelly fish and someone got stung while we were at the hotel.
•The swimming pool is fresh water, so a bit cold – the sea is warmer.
•If you are a qualified diver your first dive is free, snorkeling equipment is also free and you don’t have to got out far to see fish.
The day or overnight trip to Havana is enough I believe and talking to people who paid extra to stay for two nights at the start of their holiday - they felt that two nights was to much and doing Havana independently you also don't get a guide. The historic day tour is 51 pesos or £33(exchange rate is currently 1.54 against GBP)
We took our own private taxis to Veredero at 90 pesos (25 each if you take the tour), and shared with another couple, as the hotel tour is not long enough and the taxi driver will wait for you as long as you need. We are so glad we did not stay overnight in Veredero, as it is very commercialized and not nearly as beautiful setting as Breezes Jibacoa.
We went with average expectations and were very impressed. The customer service of Cuban's is not always fantastic and they do things in their own time and do tend to stick to the rules a bit, rather than going out of their way for the customer -but that is their culture and they are a fairly developing tourism destination, so if you want five star western service - go to the States.
As with other reviews, this is somewhere I would go back to and recommend. I understand that this hotel has one of the highest rates of repeat guests to hotels in Cuba. Surely that says it all, some people we met had been to the hotel 4 or 5 times before!
