My wife and I stayed at the Breezes Jibacoa from January 1st to 8th. It is a fantastic resort and we had a great time.
The Beach
Very beautiful beach, although we had a red flag for the first four days of our stay so we could not swim in the ocean. The beach is very private, and you don't get hounded to buy trinkets like some other countries. You never had to fight for a chair, there was always one available. Not sure if it is like that during the prime season.
The Pool
Very nice pool, although water was cool getting in. Not many people swimming in the pool, lots lounging around it though. A couple that we met down there was doing the free scuba diving lessons and the husband sliced his toe open on the bottom of the pool. There are some missing tiles so be careful.
The Food
For an all-inclusive resort I felt the food was pretty good, face it you don't go to Cuba for the food. The Italian restaurant was good, and nice change being served after a week of buffet. Piece of advice, get soup and salad for appetizers, the main course is small. We had lobster twice, but no crab legs, even on seafood night. My favorite meal was lunch, the fresh done pasta bar, or custom pizzas. Also, the toasted deli sandwiches are excellent, you make them yourself. The late night snacks were to be desired, not by me. The beach bar makes great food too.
The Events
We went on the Havana Historia trip, what a complete waste of money. We spent most of the time on the bus, and it guide did not speak the best English. The morning walk and afternoon hike are awesome, and Eric the guide is amazing. He's really funny, although you never know when he's feeding you a line or telling you the truth. The morning walk is aggressive though for elderly people, and you need something better than sandals on your feet. We also rented scooters and traveled to the Pina Colada bar about twenty minutes away by scooter. It was awesome, just be careful on your way back as they is a huge pot hole in the road and I hit it. The snorkeling was great just off the resort, take some bread or a banana with you to attract the fish
The Staff
The best staff of anywhere we've been. They speak incredible English and are extremely friendly. The government pays for University education for any Cuban citizens, so they are generally well educated. Be sure to bring some toiletries for them, we took coloring books and crayons for the kids too.
The Drinks
I really enjoyed the beer, but neither my wife nor I like rum so that eliminated a lot of drinks for us. The red wine was excellent, as well as the specialty coffees and cappuccinos. Try the Banana Momma and the Chocolate Monkey, just ask for light on the rum for the later. The lobby bar is open 24/7.
The Room
Last but not least, the room was extremely clean. We had an amazing view of the ocean from our room. Quick tip, you must lock the room manually, not an automatically locked door. We didn't realize this at first, you must also lock yourself in at night with the key. Always had hot water in the shower, and lots of shampoo and conditioner supplied. The beds we're firm, which I like so it suited me fine.
This was perhaps our best vacation together. It is very relaxing, and secluded, therefore not for everyone. This place deserves all the rave reviews. We met a couple in the airport ton the way down that had been to this resort before, this time they were going to a really expensive five star resort. Bumped into them on the way back and they said the Breezes Jibacoa was better, and a lot cheaper than the five star. Buy your tickets online and save yourself some money.
