We flew direct from London via Sunwing Feb 15 to 22nd. Flight was fine, hot breakfast was served as the flight leaves at 6:00 am. The arrival process at the Varadero airport was quite easy and efficient. We were soon on our bus heading to Breezes learning about the areas we were driving through. Our tour guide on the bus was quite informative "for you to know" was his line of choice. We arrived at the hotel before some of the rooms were ready, however, it didn't much matter. We had a couple of drinks in the lobby, changed into our suits that we had in our carry on luggage and waited for the room key. Probably 1 hour at the most.
In our group that flew down there were 10 of us. Two couples, including ourselves booked the tropical suites, and the others had pool view rooms.
Our suite was in building 4 room 2130. We faced the beach and we were right near the beach bar. Great location and a wonderful room. Spacious, clean. The air condtioning works overtime. We booked this room as it as 1 1;/2 bathrooms which some days can be very appealing. The fridge in the room was stocked with water, mineral water, juices and a bottle of red wine.
Every room has 2 cigars and 2 chocolates upon arrival. The maids keep the room clean and stocked. If there was something that we needed, we just left a note. Shower pressure is just okay but it can get very very hot.

Like the others have written, the buffet always had something and some days were better food days than others. Yes, Nelson makes quick fantastic eggs, omelets. His day off is Friday and the guy who covers for him is much slower and doesn't seem to have Nelson's technique. The food is cool -you would expect a poached egg that is just coming out of the kitchen to be hot but they aren't.
Martinos was very very good. Better tasting wine and we each had a wonderful meal. I had the filet and it was tender and juicy and cooked perfectly.

We ate lunch at the beach bar every day. Hamburgers, fish, chicken - all tasty and the view was amazing. Of course we had to get our plaque and have it put up with all the others.

4 other friends joined us at the resort on Monday and we all did a private tour (Jorge) to Havana. It was fantastic and he is a great tour organizer. All 14 of us learned about Havana and Cuba from very informative and lovely tour guides. We had a lunch at a private restaurant (home) and it was great. The best meal we had all week. We decided the length of the tour as well and we left the hotel at 9:00 am and we were back by 7:30 pm. It apparently rained at the hotel while we spent the day in Havana under sunny skies.

We too did the trek up the mountain. If you haven't walked,or moved in a while, this is not something you should consider doing. We had quite a few people on our climb that shouldn't have been doing it. The ground was also wet and it was difficult to get a grip with your footing. Its about 20 minutes of gruelling work straight up. Lovely when you get to the top though. It was great exercise that is for sure.

The staff do work very hard and still smile through it in that heat. We met some lovely people, both staff and guests.

We had a very enjoyable, relaxing week. We as a group figure we'll go back in a few years. There are so many other places to see. There was someone there that was on their 22nd trip to Breezes Jibacoa.

The flight home was delayed 14 hours and we found out about this the night before we were leaving so we were at the hotel another 11 hours which was fantastic. Would rather be there than at the airport.

Departing Varadero airport wasn't as good as arriving. Waiting in 1 long line up to go to another long line up. Duty free shopping is much better after you get through security. Their overhead speaker system leaves a lot to be desired as you can't hear what is being said so you must keep an eye on the tv's and the plane.

All in all we had a great week - this place needs some cosmetic enhancements to bring it back to "new" again. It was a wonderful, relaxing week and we all enjoyed it.

We went to the Royal Hideaway in Cayo Enscenachos last year as a group and we had to stop comparing Breezes to it. The Royal Hideaway by far out shines Breezes. The Royal is a better hotel, newer, fantastic food and top notch service. But we wanted to try some place different and picked Breezes partly due to the reviews on this site. We still had a great time and made the best of it. We were with family and friends in heat and sunshine. It was fabulous.

Enjoy your time in Cuba and at Breezes Jibacoa - remember you aren't working, cleaning or cooking - its a great week already!!

We joined a large group of friends and had a great time!
Breezes has some great qualities along with improvements needed. Have been to other 4 & 5 star all inclusives, this resort is much lower than those. Like most things, you get what you pay for and we got a great deal and had a great time here.

Resort grounds - Clean and well maintained, a beautiful walk way view towards the ocean.

Pool - Only one, and barely used - needs work as well as very cold.

Beach - Nice beach, great for snorkeling not so much for swimming.

Food - Large selection at buffet, however extremely bland. We would rather have quality rather than quantity. Martinos restaurant was great!

Staff - Awesome group of people. Lobby, cleaning, bartenders, entertainment, and waiters were all very friendly and appreciative.
The entertainment staff are the most talented singers and dancers we have seen at any resort!

Tips - 1) Bring seasoning or hot sauce etc... for the buffet.
2) Bring a large plastic mug for drinks.
3) Tip all of the staff as you would like, they work very hard for very little.
4) Bring a snorkel and mask, amazing fish & corel 10' from shore
5) Hire your own taxi at front desk for trips to Havana, it's cheaper than tours and you can go and spend as much time as you want, where you want.
6) Departing at Veradero, go through security asap, the cafeteria owner on the public side will tell you your flight is delayed and there is no food or washrooms after you clear security ... nice try!

If you know what to expect, you will enjoy your time at Breezes!

We were at Breezes last in 1999.
It's still Clean, Fresh and best of all they don't allow Kids under 14.
(I love my grandkids but when you need a vacation).

The service and accommodations are certainly 4 Star. Anyone traveling to Cuba for GREAT food...better go someplace else. The food is adequate (and lots of it) just not great... except for the made to order omelets in the morning.

The hotel staff are the greatest, they smile all the time. The weather was +30 (Toronto was -15 and 3 Snow storms...hum how do you compare)

Best part of this resort is that nobody is trying to get you to do something... if you want exercise its there if no "No Problem"
The allday trip to Havanna was OK but you leave at 9am and get back at 1 am.... If you want to see them make cigars...go to the little store at the hotel and watch the lady roll them -(and their cheaper there than the airport.)

FYI 1 Convertible Cuban Peso is the equal to 25 Cuban Peso's that the Cuban general public uses.

You won't regret Breezes Jibacoa...we're not waiting another 9 years.

just returned from breezes jibacoa.
stayed from feb.6th to 13th
went there with two other couples age 41-43. we really enjoyed this resort. everything was well situated. the rooms and the beach are close as well as the restaurants ,bars and pool. the weather was warm and we had 4 days of perfect sunshine and 4 days of windy overcast days. we got to snorkel while there and it was great. our group went on a day trip to havana-very interesting and lunch was good. we also went on a scooter trip to the local beaches which was great fun.
the night time entertainment was good and everyone did a great job to please the crowd. we took a hike up the hillside and through a local farm and got to see some local culture.

our group picked breezes jibacoa because of all the good reports from trip advisor and we were not disappointed. as the reports say this resort does need some updating as far as the room decor but this in no way prevented us from enjoying all there was to offer there. the rooms were kept neat and clean all the time. the staff are all friendly and willing to help with anything. there are alot of activities for everyone to get involved in from bocce ball on the beach to volleyball and water volley ball also the activity directors have many daily games planned down at the beach.

also wanted to let the readers know about the tropical suites. we were interested in booking them but did not have enough info to decided if it was worth the extra $$ for it or not. we did have a look at one while we were there and yes it is worth the extra $. these suites are just that -suites. there is a main room with bathroom- kitchen counter-table and chairs-living room area and a separate bedroom with another bathroom. there is one balcony with two patio doors one for each room but this is private from the rest of the guests which is nice when sitting outside. all other guests share their balcony views. would highly recomend this set up to anyone!
our group was unsure of the weather in cuba as far as being warm enough as we previously travelled to mexico together for great warm weather and sunshine. in jibacoa the weather was warm but not consistent as far as sunshine. also, don't worry about the food. went there with picky eaters and they all had plenty of choices and ate well. try this resort for a relaxing time or a trip filled with plenty of activities. the choice is yours.

missing it already. from blenheim ontario

Booked this holiday in September 2007 because we got a good deal ($799 per person) direct from Ottawa. It was listed at $1670.

The tour operator was Sunquest. The flight via Skyservice was delayed 2 hours heading out. The 'meal' onboard was a granola bar and a sausage mcmuffin. The rep visited the hotel every day, but we only needed to see him the first day to book a tour. The flight coming back was almost 4 hours late due snow in Ottawa. The 'meal' was a single slice of faux chicken and some cheese on a bun with a chocolate chip cookie.

Varadaro airport - luggage goes on 2 carousels so it was a bit hectic locating our pieces but once we had them, out the door (no porters) direct to the rep onto the bus and we headed out almost immediately. Our resort had its own bus so there were no detours or dropoffs - it takes about 50 mins to get to the resort.

Staff
99% of the staff were friendly and helpful whether or not they were tipped (which we did). English was widely spoken.

Checkin was very quick. Our room wasn't ready so they gave us the towel cards, safety deposit lock/key and we returned later for the room key - no bracelets are required. We ate our lunch at the buffet restaurant and changed into bathing suits and explored the resort until our room was ready.

Room
We had a room on the second floor of block 13. It was unfortunately facing the pool, but because the resort has mostly older people, it was quiet - the music was not blaring and was off for part of the day. The show at night was extremely loud 2 nights and held indoors the other nights so we couldn't hear it. We never go the shows - our past experience has been that they are pretty bad, so we don't bother now. We could be missing out on some good entertainment, but we can live with that. We had asked to change rooms, but nothing was available until mid-week so we decided to keep the room we had.

The room was very clean and neat, hot water when we needed it, plumbing worked perfectly. No bugs, spiders, beetles, etc. The resort is only 8 years old and is definitely a 4* by Cuban standards. We have stayed at 3.5* resorts in the past (one in Holguin, one in Cayo Coco) and there is a vast difference. We left gifts for the maid each day and she left us nice notes.

Restaurants
The main buffet is pretty small which means lineups as you can only follow along on one side. The food was ok, not great, but it was always cold - not talking room temperature - sometimes it was frigid like it just came from the frigerator. Always found something to eat but we didn't go back for seconds nor desserts which weren't appealing.

The food at the beach restaurant was good - hot (pizza, hamburgers and we stuck to the salmon and chicken).

The Italian restaurant was excellent - I had the steak and my husband had the pork and both were very good. We didn't bother going to the Cuban restaurant - had read it wasn't great.

Beach
If anyone can donate some inexpensive sunglasses to the lifeguard that would be great. His are broken and he needs some.

The beach is coarse brown sand. Lots of chairs and not too many people 'saving' chairs for hours with towels. One person had 6 stacked up covered with towels - most of the day no one came by to claim them. No one selling stuff on the beach. Only one other resort on the beach - an older hotel (Camillion? Chamelon?) that looked really run down. The beach is very short to walk - 10 mins max. My husband loves to snorkel so he was busy out in the water floating around feeding the fish with bananas (healthier than bread (chemicals) for the fish). No bugs that we could see on the beach, we had no bites whatsoever during the week. The last couple of days saw a lot of flies for some reason.

Recreation
The hotel had a games room open 24 hours - it has 2 ping pong tables, 2 pool tables and checkers, backgammon, etc. There is a boat load of activities if you're inclined to join in - dance lessons, Spanish classes, volleyball, water aerobics, etc.

We went on the Havana Historic tour. The rain was torrential that day - streets buried under several inches of water; however, it cleared up for about 2 hours and we were able to get off the bus and walk around. If they are able to keep up the rebuilding and renovation of the buildings, it will be beautiful.

Neither of us are sure we would revisit this resort - the beach isn't spectacular, the food was cold (I don't care if the selection is limited, but make it warm) and if it rains (which it did one day) there is no where to go except the bar. We liked the fact the people there are mostly older - the 20-somethings must have been bored out of their minds.
