Let me start by saying that Cuba is a beautiful country with the most incredible people that you will ever meet.

Me and two of my friends, all in our early twenties booked this resort as a girl's get-getaway! We were looking for a quality resort with a relaxing atmosphere and decided on Jibacoa.

I must admit that after reading some of the reviews, we were concerned about our choice because it seemed to be a resort aimed at older couples.

However, we would not have imagined spending time in Cuba anywhere else! The resort mainily catered to Canadians who made up the majority of the guests but everyone was so friendly and by the end of the week, we had met and made some amazing friends with fellow guests and staff who made our stay memorable!

Upon arriving, we were greeted with rain showers but that did not deter us! We were able to swim in the ocean on the resort one day only because of red flags and jelly fish but that was no problem because we prefered to spend time around the pool where there was music and activities all afternoon.

During the evening, we were never bored. We watched the nightly show which we were thoroughly impressed by and even bought some cd's from the dancers with all the latest music in Cuba. After the show, the Disco opens up and we closed it down every single night. Jorge, the DJ is an amazing guy and will play any song you request. There was a good mix of local music and Canadian/America Dance Music. Edgar, the bartender in the disco was also really great! The guys in there were all alot of fun!!! Do spend at least one night getting to know them in the disco.

The pool bar made the most amazing drinks called "Naughty Cubans". You must try one! You can also find them upstairs in the piano bar which is a great quiet little place to sit for a relaxing drink.

The food is a little less than desireable to be honest but the two "a-la-carte" restaurants were a nice change and we enjoyed the steak at the italian and had our fair share of wine there as well.

As for excurisions, we went on the catamaran and swam with the dolphins, both of which were amazing and lent well to the tan we came home with. On the catamaran, they stop and let you snorkel in the ocean but I must say, we say much more types of fish on the one day we went snorkeling off the resort as there is a reef right close to shore.

We also toured Havanna and attened Tropicana which was a nice addition. But, let me stress that they do not give you close to enough time to shop in the market during that tour! We were allotted thirty five minutes and afterwards got lost and could not find our bus. Frantic and a little scared, when we did find our tour leader, we were yelled at for twenty minutes back to the bus for being irresponsible and making him wait, telling us that even though we were on holidays, the sun did not rise and set around us. Talk about rudeness! But, oh well, we brushed it off and looked into taking a cab back the next day to Havanna to do some more shopping. However, the cab was ninety dollars so we did not come home with as many souvenirs as we would have liked.

In the end, I must stress that the people make Jibacoa exceptional. Everyone from the front desk staff to security, to maids, gardeners, bar tenders and cooks. They remembered your name and what you drank. :) Go cups are a definite must have item!

We talked with many couple who have been there five of six times and are already planning to go back next winter. One guy, on our last day said to us..."do not be sad you are leaving, look at it this way...you are just closer to coming back again!"

We stayed at Breezes Jibacoa from January 7th to the 14th and it was perfect. Our rooms were very clean and the resort was well kept. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is always enough food to eat. Lunch at the snack shack by the beach is a must!! Renting scooters to tour the neighborhood is also a must.Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday they offer a hike up the 'mini mountain' behind the resort it gives you are great photo op for a overall view of the resort, this hike also involves a visit to a farmers home. If you are into snorkelling this is an excellent place to go, the fish are around you imediately upon entering the water and the reef is nearby with an abundance of fish to see.
A great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone with older kids 16plus. It is not a 'party' resort so not for people who are into the partying scene.
The weather happened to be amazing ALL week high of 30C each day. Be sure to bring a sweater for the evenings as it does cool off nicely!

The hotel is situated on a picturesque ,long beach backed by hills, just over an hour from Havana. It's an adequate 4* hotel with everything you would expect in the room - tea & coffee, in room safe etc. The rooms are clean but rather bare. Food is plentiful but don't expect haute cusiine due to the difficulties in importing food into the country.

If you are look for a good nights' sleep and a quiet room forget about booking one overlooking the pool - music blares out of speakers all day followed by pool side entertainment until 11pm. After that the disco starts and it can be heard in adjacent rooms - I asked to be moved when it kept me awake half of the night. Irritatingly music is played on the beach - if you want the sound of the waves you need to move further down the beach. There is a live coral reef just off the beach which makes for some great snorkling and a good choice of water sports is availaible.

We arrived at 7am unprepared for the torrential downpour, no warm clothes and couldn't check in till 1pm. If there was any negative at all about this trip, that would have to be it. Don't view this as a complaint, because it wasn't. Coming from Vancouver Island we were used to the rain, but it's kinda sweet sitting in the large covered area when the air is warm and it's *issing rain outside. We had been previously informed that we'd have to wait for our room, so no big deal, just tired from an all night flight and little sleep. We had upgraded to a pool view (#2221) which had ocean view and was worth waiting for. The weather improved quickly and snorkeling, hiking, mopeds, etc were all available within a minute or two.
Everyone at this resort could not do enough to make your stay comfortable and rewarding.
We made some terrific friends in a short space of time and had our daily 'United Nations' meetings. Friends were easy to make and we made lots of them. You can also have quiet time anywhere. Lots of facilities for almost anything you want. Would love to go back but the world is a big place with many beautiful spots, so our toughest decision next year may be to go back, or not.

My husband and I stayed at the SuperClubs Breezes from January 7 to 21, 2008. Our trip initially started out being a very negative experience, namely, I'd made the mistake of booking the holiday through a TO travel agency, Peerless Travel, despite their assurances that going through them versus booking online with Air Transat would be to our advantage and no additional expense. None of this turned out to be true with unapproved charges being placed on our credit card months prior to the due date and major, major..major hassles ensuing with the agent, her boss and the agency in general. When we tried to cancel our son's trip, via registered letter, we were accused of lying, shouted at etc. Anyway avoid Peerless Travel and Hannah!

The stay at Jibaoca was outstanding...and I have to read the reviews to stay even a little connected to our wonderful time and holiday. Firstly, there are so many nice Canadians and Brits who visit the resort; it was fantastic meeting so many wonderful people including the couple from Medicine Hat. As well it is very easy to get to know the local staff and the location makes you feel you are connected to the soul and spirit of the country.

Take advantage of the scuba diving lessons if you are so inclined. The follow up dive I took was very safe, thanks to Lamar my instructor and an unbelievable first experience. The 30 p cost for the dive and all equipment is..well unheard of anywhere else. If you think the reef off the main beach is great, wait till you get a little further out.

I won't go into all of the activities we undertook, many on our own initiative with other couple at the resort, rather than tours, which were a lot of fun. But I will pass along some advice. You can share taxi expenses by posting a notice with your room number and suggested dates. Lots of people were keen to do this.

Bring lots of Canadian cash. Credit cards are expensive to use, and I found out my MBNA card is US based, so couldn't use it. We didn't bring enough cash to cover our expenses and getting to a bank outside of the resort is expensive and a hassle. If you do go to the bank to do a cash withdrawal on your credit card, bring your passport, an oversight we made.

We didn't bring a mug with us, or rather we did and I left mine at the airport ;-), however, it wasn't a big deal with us as we had our water bottles and don't drink a lot during the day. Besides the expresso is better in their cups, which was divine and a very pleasant surprise for us. Had caffeine withdrawals when I returned.

So all in all a marvellous experience and we can't wait to return to see staff and friends.
