Let me start by saying that Cuba is a beautiful country with the most incredible people that you will ever meet.
Me and two of my friends, all in our early twenties booked this resort as a girl's get-getaway! We were looking for a quality resort with a relaxing atmosphere and decided on Jibacoa.
I must admit that after reading some of the reviews, we were concerned about our choice because it seemed to be a resort aimed at older couples.
However, we would not have imagined spending time in Cuba anywhere else! The resort mainily catered to Canadians who made up the majority of the guests but everyone was so friendly and by the end of the week, we had met and made some amazing friends with fellow guests and staff who made our stay memorable!
Upon arriving, we were greeted with rain showers but that did not deter us! We were able to swim in the ocean on the resort one day only because of red flags and jelly fish but that was no problem because we prefered to spend time around the pool where there was music and activities all afternoon.
During the evening, we were never bored. We watched the nightly show which we were thoroughly impressed by and even bought some cd's from the dancers with all the latest music in Cuba. After the show, the Disco opens up and we closed it down every single night. Jorge, the DJ is an amazing guy and will play any song you request. There was a good mix of local music and Canadian/America Dance Music. Edgar, the bartender in the disco was also really great! The guys in there were all alot of fun!!! Do spend at least one night getting to know them in the disco.
The pool bar made the most amazing drinks called "Naughty Cubans". You must try one! You can also find them upstairs in the piano bar which is a great quiet little place to sit for a relaxing drink.
The food is a little less than desireable to be honest but the two "a-la-carte" restaurants were a nice change and we enjoyed the steak at the italian and had our fair share of wine there as well.
As for excurisions, we went on the catamaran and swam with the dolphins, both of which were amazing and lent well to the tan we came home with. On the catamaran, they stop and let you snorkel in the ocean but I must say, we say much more types of fish on the one day we went snorkeling off the resort as there is a reef right close to shore.
We also toured Havanna and attened Tropicana which was a nice addition. But, let me stress that they do not give you close to enough time to shop in the market during that tour! We were allotted thirty five minutes and afterwards got lost and could not find our bus. Frantic and a little scared, when we did find our tour leader, we were yelled at for twenty minutes back to the bus for being irresponsible and making him wait, telling us that even though we were on holidays, the sun did not rise and set around us. Talk about rudeness! But, oh well, we brushed it off and looked into taking a cab back the next day to Havanna to do some more shopping. However, the cab was ninety dollars so we did not come home with as many souvenirs as we would have liked.
In the end, I must stress that the people make Jibacoa exceptional. Everyone from the front desk staff to security, to maids, gardeners, bar tenders and cooks. They remembered your name and what you drank. :) Go cups are a definite must have item!
We talked with many couple who have been there five of six times and are already planning to go back next winter. One guy, on our last day said to us..."do not be sad you are leaving, look at it this way...you are just closer to coming back again!"
