Myself and two girlfriend just got back on August 23, 2003. The resort was unbelievable. The Lobby and surrounding structure are of Cuban/Italian design (very inviting) We each had our own bed with plenty of room to spare. The room was bright and spacious and walked out onto the pool area. The view of the beach from the outdoor lobby area was picturesque. It rained for a bit a couple of times but honestly who cares that's nature. The sand on the beach was very course brown unlike the white soft sand of Varadero apparently. But you know sand shouldn't really make or break a vacation, what are you going to do eat it? I like variety in my meals and the buffet meals provided that. Plus you can do a little fine dining at the Italian and Cuban restaurants (prebooked of course and one of each per week.) 24 hour Lobby bar and snack times are very convenient for those on the go or for the late arrivals. The beach grill offered food and drink for those who couldn't pull themselves off the beach during the day. They have a variety of drinks to sample from ordinary to the extraordinary. (Beer and wine to pina coladas and rum punches plus many many more). I went sailing on a small catamaran and it was heavenly with a terrific view of the resort and the mountains behind. There are so many activities offered there I didn't have time to try them all-next time. Many couples were vacationing there and we had a blast meeting so many people from all over, take a note pad for email addresses of the people you get to know. The staff are so friendly and helpfulf. A simple hello and thankyou go along way remember that. The staff are there to make sure that you have the best time possible-utilize them. If you don't ask how will you know. Learn a couple of words in Spanish, it will go along way. Gloria-reception , Dyanna-Lobby Bar, Alfonso-manager, Omar-Bartender at the disco are just a few of the amazing staff there. Get to know them and you will be better for it. There are so many other things that are great about this place but I'm running out of room. I think I have my parents hooked on this place and they have travelled alot. Don't forget treats for housekeeping staff. Bug spray, Peptol and band aids( from all the dancing) plus a little extra cash for scooter rides and tours. Havana especiale was AWESOME-9 am til 1 am Tropicana included-spectacular. Havana is great for dipping into the culture and checking out the old and new sections. Remember this if you go to Cuba...you are not in Canada anymore. The trip will be what you make it. Go with an open attitude with the goal of making new friends and learning about Cuba and I promise it won't be a trip you will soon forget. oh and Gloria if you read this....Cindy, Bobbi and Stacy will be seeing you later.
