DATE: 23rd Dec '06- 9th January 2007.

Where do I begin to describe this fabulous holiday?
My husband & I traveled for the first time to Cuba on above dates and picked Superbreezes Jibacoa, after reading other reviews.
We travelled from the UK and have been on many Caribbean holidays before, but Cuba was by far the best, due to the superb stay in Superbreezes.
We stayed in the block nearest the tennis courts on the second floor and though it was basic, it suited are needs perfectly!
The room was spotless, the maid service was excellent, we got our tea coffee sugar and milk whitener topped up every day.
We were there over Christmas and new year, and we had Santa on the beach with Christmas music on Crimbo day!, and had a wonderful turkey dinner that evening.
The whole complex is kept immaculately by many gardeners, who all greet you with a smile.
The main restaurant food was brilliant, and I'm a fussy eater!! Breakfast was always a favourite, with a load of fresh fruit topped up regularly.
Different theme nites during the week, in main restaurant, with the seafood nite serving the most outstanding lobster!
If you like ommelettes Nelson the chef will make you the quickest tastiest one you have ever had.
Tipping in the hotel is not allowed, but, we tipped the maid everyday, leaving a few pesos, and when we left we gave Nelson, and our friendly waiter Joel a good tip!!
The beach is amazing, powder white sand, and tourqouise blue water. Only thing I didnt like were the fish with the long snouts that swim up to you and nudge your legs! But then, I'm afraid of my own shadow!! My husband took bread rolls from the restaurant down to the beach and fed them.
Normally there are plenty of thatched umbrellas to lie under on the beach, and I would recommend this.
Take a large thermos mug with you for drinks. At the bar they serve drinks in small disposable vending machine cups, no good if your thirsty!!
We went on a guided tour of Havana, and it was well worth seeing, although the food was terrible on this trip and I ended up in bed with 'the scoots'!!
We ended up having to visit the in house doctor, for an examination and antibiotics which cost us around £80 sterling.
There are armed guards on the beach to prevent the local campsite people wandering onto the beach, but if this happens they are usually just moved on.

All in all, we had the best holiday we have ever had, and hope to return very very soon! Take a chance on this super place, you will want to go back time and time again!!

We stayed at Breezes Jibacoa from November 4-11, 2007 and couldn't have asked for a better vacation. We had a second floor, gardenview room, which was always clean and comfortable. One thing to know is that they do not provide bottles of water in the bar fridge each day as they do at some other resorts, so you may want to bring your own water bottle. The water at Jibacoa is treated and safe to drink and the bar staff will refill bottles for you whenever you need it. You can also purchase water at the small grocery store on-site.

The buffet restaurant was average. We never went hungry and there was enough variety that you didn't get bored of the food. The Cuban a la carte restaurant was good and the Italian one was excellent. The ravioli was to die for!

The beach was beautiful, unfortunately there was a red flag on the beach for 4 of the 7 days we were there. This was due to high winds, making it either unsafe due to the waves or due to the jellyfish floating in from sea. We were able to snorkel on the other 3 days, which was great. The reef is beautiful.

The staff at the resort were very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed getting to know the staff at the fitness and water sport centre, as well as the security guards.

We were looking for an opportunity to relax, which is exactly what we got at Breezes. Overall we were very happy with the resort and will definitely be planning another trip back.

My BF and i stayed at this Jibacoa because we have some co-workers that go every year and were married there. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing vacation, do a few day trips and spend some time together.
The first few days the weather wasn't that great due to Noel but after that the sun came out and we had a few days of great weather.
We went on 2 scooter trips to Santa Cruz and to the bridge (can't spell or pronounce it) very knowledgeable guides. This was probably the highlight of our trip other than sitting by the pool. The beach was closed (red flag) every day except one morning, then it changed because it was still rough, jelly fish everywhere and they had to go in and rescue a man because it was too rough for him and he tired out. Needless to say they changed the flag after that.
On my 4.5 day, i became increasingly ill. Stomach pains, cramping, not well at all, i finally gave in and saw the Dr. on our final day who said yup, i'm sick! Charged me 50 dollars for meds and a "consultation" only to find out back at home that the meds were making it worse. Said it couldn't have been food poisioning because no one else was sick.. i guess that is why they charged me money because others said they weren't charged.
I also attended first aid at the air port and they were great with me... i won't go into details but they got me through my flight home thank god.
I am still bed ridden and fighting whatever it is that i have intestinal bacteria (aka food poisioning??) Now my BF is starting to have the same symptoms on our first day back...

WIth that being said, i am not hard to please and after reading all of the wonderful reviews i thought Jibacoa would be ALOT nicer than we got.
We had to pay for water and snacks and i found the food barely edible..... do you like corn and carrot pizza?

If it weren't for the great people we met and a few days of sun i would say it was a complete waste of money and our time...

It was amazing to hear the tourists because most of them go back every year.... i guess you are part of the Jbacoa family, or you aren't...i can definitely say we won't be going back....

  • Liked — FInally some sun!
  • Disliked — Getting sick... BOOOO!!!

We visited Jibacoa three times in four years and loved it each time! The hotel, food, location and service are all excellent. The add-on services at the hotel are great as well, in particular: the scooter rental company. Osmin, Fidel and Orlando who work there are great guys, very knowledgeable, courteous, professional and they speak great English! They took us around and showed us the surrounding areas, introduced us to the locals and told us all about the Cuban culture we wanted to know. They really made us feel welcome and made our stay in Cuba all the more enjoyable!

  • Liked — Great views. Hotel comprised of several smaller buildings.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

I just returned from my first trip to Cuba, and travelled on my own there (female, mid-twenties). I went to reflect, rest and relax and that's exactly what I did at Breezes Jibacoa. What to expect? The majority of guests are older (50+). So if you're looking for all-night, non-stop partying, with tons and tons of young people, this is not the place for you. However there is a disco on the property for the party animal in you. The hotel is located near sloping hills and many rivers, with small villages and towns surrounding it. A picturesque landscape. Breezes Jibacoa is about 40 minutes from Havana and about 50 minutes from Varadero, pretty much in the middle of the two cities. So you are near enough to tour either city, and far away enough to have an authentic Cuban experience. Recommended excursions: renting a scooter and touring the nearby towns and fishing villages or hiking the hilly environs. The beach is OK. There are coral reefs located close to shore so you will feel bigger shells and coarser sand underfoot. The staff there is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and the food, drinks and international cocktails are good. Both the service and cuisine are superb at the two a la carte restaurants: Italian and Cuban.
If you're in need of excellent R&R, Breezes Jibacoa is definitely the way to go.
