This was my first time in any Caribbean resort so I have nothing to compare it to, other then what others have written about this and other resorts.

Room: Very clean, althow it did smell of cigarette smoke. They cleaned up the smell as best they can after mentioning it to them. All lights and equipment were working. There is one large air conditioner for the entire block of rooms, about 14 units per building. It was never turned off, and you have your own thermostat to adjust the temperature to your liking. Because the AC is not actually in your room it makes for very quiet nights. After checking out of the rooms the maids showed up to start cleaning. The rooms spelled strongly of bleach or ammonia so you know they do a real thorough job cleaning up

Landscape: Wow is the word. Every day the gardeners were working, trimming trees, cutting grass, sweeping walkways. What ever was needed, and in many cases I didn't think it was needed, but they did it anyways.

Food: I would consider the food very good. Lots of selection for everyone, from french fries to ethnic food I would not want to eat without someone showing me how to eat it. You won't go hungry in any regard. Warm food was kept warm and in small portions as to not sit too long on the hot plates. The cold food was kept cold and covered with plastic domes. The staff wore hats to cover their hair, every dish had their own serving spoon. For breakfast eggs were made to order right in front of you. For lunch various pasta dishes were prepared as you liked it. Every day was a different theme where the menu would change a little. Sure they had the same basic items, but a few things do change. The beach bar was great and a few times we didn't even eat at the buffet, but at the beach. They had hamburger, hot dogs, grilled fish, or chicken, fruit platters, french fries, and all were very well prepared. I have not heard of anyone getting sick from talking to many people at the resort, on the bus, or on the plane coming home. Every one was healthy.

Beach: Very nice. Depending on what you are looking for or comparing it to. Some parts of the beach have large pebbles and some people found it hard to enter or exit the water as it would hurt the feet. Other places it was pure sand. Rock ledges are just 30ft from shore where lots of fish hide out. Bring some food and they all come out. Amazing place to snorkel as the water is shallow for at least 100ft from shore. Great coral and fish to see. Problem with the rock formation being so close to shore is if the waves are too great, they quickly put up the red flag so you should not go in the water. A few days of rough waters and the beach was covered with dead sea grass. In the next day or two it was all cleaned up.

Sports: adequate. With the weight room, snorkeling, water volley ball, beach volley ball, wind sailing, catamaran, Kayak, scuba diving, there is plenty of activities to do. Note that the scuba diving does cost extra, but if you are certified, don't forget to bring your C-card as it will give you one free dive, including all rental equipment. 30cuc for a one tank boat dive after that, 25cuc if you have all your own equipment. There is a local guy with horses that hangs around. For 15cuc you get at least an hour ride on his horse up the mountain. Wow the view is great from up there.

  • Liked — Gardens and landscape, beach, food
  • Disliked — People bringing drinking glasses, or food dishes to the room, and leaving it outside. Took staff days to pick it up.

We have recently returned from a week @ Breezes Jibacoa, & my husband & I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. The staff is the best, always very helpful & friendly. The food was very good ; I'm a vegetarian, & I always found a great variety to eat.
We had a gardenview room & found it very quiet.
Unforunately our vacation was cut short, due to an accident we had with the scooters that u rent on site. It was totally our fault,I suffered & broken wrist & my husband got a concussion. We had to spend 3 days in a Havana hospital, which was terrifying! Thank goodness for the public relations staff at the hotel, especially "Vivian", who visited us everyday in the hospital & brought us juice & water & was our go-between with hosp staff. I am so glad we had travel insurance & would never travel without it. The hotel definitely went above & beyond for us, & will never forget it!! We are definitely coming back nxt year.

I went to Breezes Jibacoa from Sept 22- Sept 30th 2007 with my boyfriend. This hotel was really nice for Cuba and for the price we paid.

We got to the airport in Varadero and our bags took 1 hour to retrieve. The bus was waiting for us to get to our hotel.

When we got to the hotel, check in was quick and simple. We finally found our room after some help from the busy porter. keep in mind room 2220 is not in building 20. We were in building 17!

We really got lucky on our room. We booked a gardenview room and ended up with a second floor pool front with a view of the ocean in the distance. It appears that all rooms have a mini fridge.

This was my first time snorkelling, my boyfriend said it was great, I on the other hand didn't do too much of it but did find the fish pretty.

My boyfriend went diving several times and found the shallow dive to be nicer.

The drinks were pretty good if you found the right bartender. I had trouble getting "real" banana daquiri's. They seem to not always have bananas at the bar. I was a little frustrated about it.

The food was OK for Cuba. I never really got stomach problems and I usually get them. The Italian restaurant is a must but don't go for the steak. Chicken seems to be their specialty.

The evening entertainment was really poor. This is the worst evening shows I've ever seen.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway this may be the right place for you. However for you partyers out there, you really should be in the core of Varadero with the other hotels.

We travelled from vancouver and transferred in toronto.
We travelled with sunwing..they were okay except they have a luggage restriction coming home and only allow 20lbs per person and then end up charging you big time for overage...we refused to pay and then didn;t...but many did...quite a scam!

the resort.
the staff were amazing.
the beach...amazing.
the food was great...not amazing but great...i have been to many all inclusives all 4t and the food at this resort was plentiful and very good. there was something to eat at all times of the day and the food was fresh and had great variety!
there were lots of activities...the disco was fun..same music over and over again..but fun!
the beach was beautiful! the snorkeling was awesome!
overall i would go back in a heartbeat!
other vacationers were lots of fun too!
did a day trip to havana....was truly amazing
the cuban's are gracious and wonderful people.
be sure to bring lots of toothpaste, tylenol, treats etc for the locals..they REALLY appreciate it. the hotel staff seem to do well...the locals on the way to havana REALLY appreciated the gifts!
if you are thinking of booking..do it..you wont' regret it..it was a great holiday! we loved it!!!
oh...bring bug spray...the bugs are bad at night...

The hotel itself was very pleasant, clean and quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the beach and reef fantastic.

I met a few "locals" and they to seemed to be pleased to have us in their country.

Day trip to Havana great.

Jeep safari excellent, be warned though that you need to wear trainers as it's v. slippery in the caves. It was mentioned when we booked that you "do some swimming". Whereas it was an hour of snorkeling, absolutely fantastic, but there would be a number of people who couldn't swim for that long - I think.

However........

Shopping trip to Varadero was a complete waste of time, nothing worthwhile to buy. You're just dropped off at some godforesaken, out of town mall (we've got them bigger and better at home) and told to get on with it. The guide seemed genuinely surprised when she asked whether we had a good time and the whole coachload of people said "no"! - Best avoided.

The place stinks, apart from a few days, when I guess the wind changed direction, there was the smell from the oil refineries and power stations which was quite nausiating. Also, when travelling, I found all the smoke coming from the largely delapidated cars, buses and trucks on the roads, unpleasant.

The worst thing, however, was the food, pathetic is the only thing I can say about it. Whilst it was edible and didn't seem to cause any upset stomachs, it was almost always always lukewarm (including the salads). A few microwave ovens available to guest to heat their plates of food would be useful (not for the salads you understand). The food was also incredibly boring. I completely understand that they don't have all the ingredients available to them that I am used to, but have they never heard of sauces and spices? We ate out a couple of times and whilst the food tended to be warmer it was equally bland. It comes to something when the best meal of an entire holiday is burger and chips from the beach bar (it was actually quite good)!

I've always considered myself to be fairly easy to please and don't expect an awful lot from all inclusive buffets but this was the worst I have ever experienced.

A beautiful, charming and friendly country but I don't suppose I'll go back.
