“Majorda Beach Resort, Goa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

My partner and I stayed at this hotel in October 2012. We stayed for 3 nights. It was great to be met at the airport and have a shuttle drive us to the hotel. Check in was straight forward enough, we had our welcome drink and our baggage was taken to our room. The room was spacious, two double beds in the room with a table and chairs. We couldn't get the tv to work but never got round to asking for help! We liked that there was a balcony with the room and we could sit out and look across the gardens towards the beach. The bathroom was clean and presentable. There are some parts of this hotel that do seem a little outdated, but also in a way quaint and historic almost. Lots of different areas to have a drink or some food through the day/evening, with an indoor and an outdoor pool. We spent some time in the fitness room which could do with some new equipment adding to their collection. The main draw back for us was the internet connection, we paid the 600 rupees and then couldn't get a connection even whilst sitting in the reception area or literally having the computer on the reception desk! We showed staff who were very apologetic and refunded the charge. We had meals included with our stay, we were very impressed with breakfast and lunch but dinner in the garden was a hassle with all the bugs. We only ate outside in the evening once and then ordered room service the rest of the time! The outdoor pool was nice, well kept with attentive pool staff and plenty of loungers. I especially liked that it was a little stroll through the gardens and you were on the beach. We did go for a massage at the spa, a little hut behind the hotel and it was amazing! The spa facilities on the ground floor seem more up to date than most of the hotel.
All in all a nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff. I'm not 100% sure it's 5* but that depends on personal taste. Great for a relaxing break away, not a great place to keep on top of emails.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach facing room. Lovely views. Make sure you keep the doors shut though as there can be...

I visited Majorda a couple of days back and was totally disappointed with the entire experience. Here are some of the things I came across.
1. A cockroach in the room.
2. Brownish water from the bathroom taps.
3. Uncooked or hard meat ( chicken, esp ) at almost all the meals.
4. Stale and stinking bread for every breakfast.
6. Cleaning of the room only after several reminders.
7. Really really BAD kids corner. Nothing there is maintained. In fact it looks like the ruins from a war affected area.
8. Outdoors swimming pool not functioning.
9. Indoors pool filled with dirt and insects and we even spotted 5-6 tadpoles swimming with us. I had to repeatedly tell those guys to clean the pool with the nets.
10. No exhaust fan in the bathroom.
These are some of the things i remember. If you are looking for a 5 star experience, this place is definitely a NO NO.

We had selected this property for its competitive pricing but the service quality made us wonder how they are still in business. While the view and the property is very good, the service quality was simply horrible, same goes for the quality of food. Renovation work was going on, so only a single restaurant was open where we took our buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most of the people employed here work like robots, just doing their work without compassion, same goes for the room service people and other employees. In the restaurant, you can play pick-a-boo while searching for spoon, fork and knives and asking for a desert spoon would make you look like an alien. They are never kept at the same place. You have to ask for each service yourself before they are delivered.

The room was good. Although, cleanliness is only ensured if you check yourself and ask the room service. Our room was on the top floor with the balcony facing the garden and the sea. The view from the room was excellent. The beach is also nice.

Although we had a good time but the service quality is definitely not what is expected from a property rated as 5 star. I hope this guys will do justice to the beautiful property and the beach and will improve their service quality. For us, we will not be going back to this property on our next visit to Goa.

We have been visiting Majorda for last 8 years....my recent trip was in Sept 2012. It was very disappointing to experience the resort, rooms and decor as once upon a time I used to consider this resort as benchmark for all comparisons to resorts in Goa.
The property has gone old, maintained poorly, recreational facilities were missing, squash room getting painted, swimming pool was dirty and under renovation, tennis courts were full of water, children's play area was under a shed.
Rooms were big, we took suite, but interiors were average, bed spread looked dirty, TV from 1975, airfreshner in room was a chameli smell.
This property needs a huge facelift, it has gone really old and I wont recommend to anyone I know though the price is still very competitive. The only thing I was happy was with the food and service. The food still taste one of the best as compared to some properties in Goa though over the years variety has gone reduced.
Was very excited for my Goa holiday but was very disappointed in few hours of reaching Majorda. Once considered to be the perfect place for a family getaway, not lost all its charm....indeed like a lost & aged emperor.

Room Tip: Only try if its a bachelor's event...not good for families

we stayed here for 2 weeksin November, initally we were in a very nice, recently refurbished room at the front of the building, with a poor view of the tennis courts, so we asked to get moved closer to the pool, which they did by the afternoon. The room was a lot poorer than the first one we had been in, and clearly needed a refurbishment. Saying that it was clean and at a standard you usually get around Europe in a 4*. Very spacious with a beautiful view of the gardens and pool, so we felt it was worth the move. All the staff were great, id advise tipping them early on, that way they will be very attentive to your needs and also give you lots of extra water in your room :o) All staff, from the concierges, to the pool boys, to the gardeners couldnt have been more friendly, they were great!

The gardens were stunning which leads straight onto the beach, and the pool area was good too, nice and clean throughtout the whole place. One of the dissapointing things here was the spa, from pictures me and my partner thought we would be able to have ajoining jacuzzis, this was not the case, males and females are seperated completely. Very nice spa however but little treatments on offer and closed a lot of the time.We didnt venture into the casino, but it looked typical from the outside. We ate a few times by the pool on entertainment nights and most days, all good quality including breakfast which is served outside by the pool.

i wouldnt hesitate to go back and stay at the majorda, i think its one of the best resorts south goa has for the price. Not too any brits here (which i liked) it was mainly russians staying here, so beware if its a typical british holiday your after where you want to meet fellow brits, youd be better off going to north goa.

My trip to goa was the best holiday ive ever had, from getting a shower from an elephant and giving them a bath to exploring their jungles and beautiful beaches, i cant reccommend it enough. If someone is against going due to the people, food or poor living environment they have, its all totally worth it! the people copuldnt be friendlier, the food is excellent ( and im not that into curries) and it has some of the most beautiful landscapes i have ever seen and best of it its so cheap its unreal! I most certainly will be returning for more exploring of this beautiful country.

Choose life, choose Goa!
