“Fantastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

We stayed in Banana Lodge for 2 nights. The Lodge is a very short walk from the center of Misahualli village (or a $1 cab ride).
Rooms were nice, large and very clean, bathroom looked brand new, and the setting is beautiful, overlooking the river and the jungle.
The lodge is surrounded by a lush garden.
We stayed in the more 'expensive rooms', $15 pp including breakfast, but there are cheaper options as well.
They have free wi-fi, which is great.
The owners, Anna and Eduardo, were very kind and helpful - they arranged a 3-day jungle tour for us with an excellent guide who spoke flawless English.
We liked the vibe of the place - guests from different countries coming and going, sharing their stories around the fire pit, different languages spoken all at once.
During our stay Anna and Eduardo were hosting a few young volunteers from Germany and a Russian family interested in shamanic ceremonies, which Anna helped them organize.
I wish we could stay longer!

Banana Lodge has been operating for about three years and was not short of guests during our four-night stay. Located a 5 minute walk from the village of Misahualli by Amazonia`s Napo River, it is easily the most welcoming hotel of its class in this area. Rooms are clean, tidy and large. Breakfasts are optional at $3. The setting here is very pretty….the gardens are well-kept, groomed stone pathways lead to individual rooms and to the beautiful boulder strewn river where many guests swim. Camping is also an option here. Every evening, under a canopy roof and on a floor of sand, a fire invites guests to unwind in hammocks or sling chairs. Anna and Eduardo, the kind and helpful hosts, run a friendly and tight ship, gaining the respect of their clientele. The rooms are secure, as are the grounds. Parking is inside a high fenced area. English, German, Spanish and Russian are spoken and trips down the river and to indigenous villages can be arranged from and by the lodge. There is also excellent birding on the property and across the street. Watch out for sand flies at dusk! Perfect for fussier budget travellers or for those who may want to visit the area without the time and expense of going to a jungle lodge farther down river.

Not a hotel. A lodge with cabanas. Walking distance from center of town. Very safe area. I stayed in a two bunk cabana with 4 teen boys. Room very clean. Mattresses very firm and odor free. Ana went out of her way to accomodate us. She speaks English. Bathroom was very clean and odor free. No mustiness. Breakfast is well worth the extra money. I will stay here again.

Excellent choice in Misahualli. Stayed 2 nights in a triple. The place is clean and scenic overlooking the Misahualli River. The gardens are full of banana trees, coffee, cocoa and other things that I could not identify. Anna is a great host. It is a five minute walk to the center of town where the monkeys can steal anything you carry. Anna and Eduardo will fix you breakfast for an additional $3.00 on top of the $12.00 per person charge for the room. I swam in the river just off the lodge.

Most definitely the best lodging option in Misahalli. Just a 5 min walk from the village center, Banana Lodge is a very nice, clean, comfortable, and just plain beautiful place, right on the Misahualli river with easy water access and really cool views of the jungle.

Ana and Eduardo are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and eager to help. Ana speaks English and Russian, and Eduardo is a great tour guide. They have excellent contacts and can arrange any kind of activity: multiple-day jungle treks and river rafting, site tours, community volunteering, shamanic ceremonies... you name it.

They also have great wi-fi, a kitchen where you can cook your own meals if you want to, and a nice area for relaxing and listening to jungle noises with hammocks and a fire pit.

Room Tip: You can stay in a room with full amenities, or in a more basic cheaper room with a hammock and a bat...
