The Norotshama River Resort left me a bit schizophrenic about whether I should give it a good rating or a lesser one, because some things were fabulous and others really weren't, which is why I opted to go for the middle.
The views are absolutely fabulous; it's right next to the Orange river and we were in one of the tent-bungalows which were quite nice. The room was clean, but 2 things could be improved; first the mosquito net had holes in it, which would've bothered me more if there had been mosquitoes; there weren't any at the time that we went, but I can imagine that you wouldn't appreciate that when there are. Secondly, the bed was the single worst bed that we slept in during our 2 week tour through Namibia. You could literally feel the coils pushing through.
The staff was quite friendly. We arrived at about 11 AM in the morning and we asked if there was a hike nearby that we could do. We were able to go into our room already, so we changed and put on sunscreen and then set out for a hike across the road into a canyon. We received a ton of paperwork and an explanation on how to get there and what to watch out for during the walk, since although it was a fairly short hike (13 km), it involved a lot of clambering over rocks, etc. So we received a walkie-talkie which we were told to use in case we got into trouble. By the time we got down from the walk, my husband suggested to turn it on and good thing we did because they were about to send out a search party for us; turns out the receptionist had neglected to inform that we had gone to change first and that we actually left an hour later than what they thought we had. But it does show genuine concern for their guests, although it might be a better idea to just agree with hikers that they'll check in every hour or so. The hike cost 70 or 75 NAD per person, unguided, but you receive paperwork and the trail is marked with painted stones. We enjoyed the physical exercise, and saw some great views, including a wild horse.
The food in the restaurant was very basic, both for dinner and breakfast, really nothing special.
The pool was pretty nice and again, the view across the river is great. In addition, they were under construction when we were there, which will make the place look a lot more modern and inviting.
So my conclusion is if you're not too worried about food and can get a guarantee of a good mattress, then this is definitely a place worth considering. The potential is there, it just needs fine-tuning.
