“Beautiful perfect Italian Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2009

Due to visiting family in Nocera, we chose the Villa Albani for our stay. It was a perfectly charming Italian hotel, in beautiful grounds, well tended tropical gardens and excellent inviting swimming pool. It was so peaceful, even with the nearby bells ringing (often), and the view from our balcony was stunning over the surrounding hills and rooves of the quaint working town.

We payed a supplement of 30 euros per night for a pool view on the third floor of the newer block which was in the hotel grounds. Our room was lovely and very new looking, with an extra large, very comfortable bed, and fresh crisp white bedlinen. Our bathroom looked as if it had just been installed, everything was so fresh and new, with beautiful tiles throughout and a side velux window overlooking the stunning scenary (I could even see the view from the shower cubicle!) Soft fluffy white towels were replaced everyday.

There were sunbeds around the pool area, and sometimes we were the only ones there, which was heavenly. However people were coming and going throughout the day.

Breakfast was a continental buffet, which sufficed in the intense heat, and the amount of food consumed the rest of the day! As our family only lived a few minutes away, we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel, and as this is not a tourist town, restaurants etc are hard to find. However, the reception staff were very helpful and would draw routes for us, to wherever we wished to go. With the age of the town, the streets are very narrow, winding and typically Italian, ideal for exploring on foot. The hotel therefore is situated in the middle of such area, and not in down and out backstreets as the previous reviewer stated. This is not a modern tourist resort, but a local working town.

I would strongly recommend this hotel to any independant traveller who wishes to explore the local area including Pompei, Paestum, Cava de Terrani, Salerno and the Amalfi Coast, all within close proximity. This is the real Italy, not a modern high rise tourist trap.

We found ourselves in Solerno unable to find any accomodation and in desperation came across the Villa Albani Hotel (on the internet) about 25mins drive inland. Firstly the hotel is not sign posted and our GPS lead us to a dead end, finally we found the Hotel in a most dangerous run down area (and we've stayed in Naples by the train station!) ...this was only the start of it... it was the height of July and there were only two other guests - and for good reason. There are no amenities around (unless you count derelict buildings) and I would not recommend leaving the grounds of the hotel (unless in speeding car or under armed escort). The hotel was probably very nice when it was opened a few years ago, thus earning it's four stars, but as no-one seems to brave it, the pool was full of moss, no room service, no fridge/safe/iron in room, 'bar' closed (if there ever was one), the restaurant (what a Euphemism) is only open for 2hrs a day - which is a good job as they only serve one thing - fries and 'cutlets' (deep fried frozen french fries and deep fried frozen processed breaded fish), obviously cooked by someone who has never seen a kitchen before, served to us by a child wearing a waiter's outfit 2 sizes too big, (with the help of his pal in who was dressed in a Tracksuit), they served us the wine after the meal and charged us €72 for the privilege. If your choice is to sleep in the car or stay here (and if your car is very small) then I suppose here is the better option - but only just.
