My husband and I stayed at Palazzo Malaspina in September, it was our first trip to Italy and we were not disappointed. Maria was very helpful with places to visit and her homemade cakes were a delight at breakfast. Our room was very clean, spacious with a modern bathroom and a balcony with fantastic views over the tuscan hills. The Bed and Breakfast is situated in the lovely village of San Donato in Poggio, with good restaurants. It is also a good base to visit Florence, Sienna and many beautiful towns and villages in the area. We would definitely return!!

We had a wonderful time in Palazzo Malaspina, enjoyed watching the balloons rise over the horizon while lying in bed. I have already made Maria's chocolate cake but didn't have it for breakfast at home, a great hit! Very clean and well situated in Chianti.

Room Tip: Room with a shared balcony has a beautiful view but best if non smoker shares the balcony.

My wife and I went to Italy on our honeymoon and we were referred to this Bed and Breakfast by a cooking class we had booked in the area. The town itself had great views and good restaurants and was close to other attractions in the area (plus it is up on a hill, the views were amazing!!!) The Bed and Breakfast was great - the rooms were comfortable and very nice (no surprises there, as their website has pictures of all of the rooms!)... However, the one thing that sticks out in my mind the most (and have told everyone about so far) is the absolutely amazing breakfast. This is by far one of the best Bed and Breakfasts my wife and I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Make sure to print out directions to the door, our GPS didn't know where to go (which Maria poin...

My husband and I returned to Italy this September after a wonderful trip last year in which we decided to spend more time in the hill towns of the Chianti region. I came upon the Palazzo Malaspina through much internet searching and was immediately charmed by its story and the photos on their website. The first part of our trip was in a castle spa resort in Montalcino, and for contrast we chose this small intimate bed & breakfast in the tiny town of San Donato di Poggia, and take day trips from there. Returning to this small medieval palazzo with its 10 foot high doors and updated with modern conveniences every evening was a joy. We felt like we were part of the town. Maria's hospitality, the communal lovely breakfasts and the view from our balcony over the alley-way sized streets of the town and the Tuscan hills were all enchanting. It made me fall in love with Italy all over again! And the bonus is that it is much closer to Florence than you realize, so returning to the city with our rental car to catch the train was very quick and convenient. I'd recommend it highly and visit it again.

Room Tip: They were all wonderful with individual accents. I did like the room with an open balcony yo enjoy...

Maria and Mary did a wonderful job taking care of us in San Donato. The room was perfect and the chocolate breakfast cake was to die for. The town of San Donato was charming and convenient to lots of interesting places.

My wife and I spent 7 nights at Palazzo Malaspina and had a great time. Maria was wonderful and helpful to us as we planned our day visits. We started each day with a delicious breakfast with excellent service. The location was perfect - walk down to a local pizzeria for a delicious take out pizza, add a bottle of wine, and it is the perfect end to a day of traveling. Our room was spacious and clean. We highly recommend this B&B!

Palazzo Malaspina is the perfect homebase to explore Tuscany. We stayed there a week and made day trips to Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Volterra, and several other smaller towns in Tuscany. Maria was very helpful in giving us advice regarding parking, restaurants and sites. She also reserved a wine-tasting for us at a nearby vineyard. Thanks to Mary, the rooms are impeccably clean. Although this is a B&B, the rooms are well-appointed with hotel-like amenities, like a safe. We had ample storage and were able to empty our bags into the beautiful armoire and large chest of drawers. The bathroom was lovely - a rarity in Europe. The breakfasts offered many choices: everything fresh. The breakfast was so filling that we only ate out once a day in a restaurant. There are a few nice, reasonably-priced restaurants in San Donato, which is really nice on those days that you are extra tired from climbing castles and towers! The town of San Donato is charming English is spoken by several people. Maria and her staff are delightful and make a wicked expresso and cappucino. We highly recommend Palazzo Malaspina - the perfect start to a wonderful Tuscan vacation.

Room Tip: The rooms are all lovely. There are 2 that face the plaza and 3 that face the countryside. Some ro...
