“A quite destination”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Nice hotel, clean comfortable room quite isolated and near to roman ruins.
Staff varied from helpful and friendly to indifferent .
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. With a very friendly and obliging waitress.
We booked the Roman banquet evening meal which was a bit disappointing and didn't really live up to expectations.
Overall we had a nice couple of days there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the fields.

Stayed two nights on a special deal. We are usually given the worse room in any hotel we stay in but at Wroxeter we had a beautiful (but not huge) room with stunning views of The Wrekin (a hill) in the distance. Must admit our meal (from the Taste of Shropshire menu) on the first evening was rather poor - a Monday evening, could have been Chef's night off! - but we enjoyed the Roman banquet the next evening. The hotel and grounds are well maintained and would be an excellent wedding venue and makes for a very relaxing and quiet break, both the Roman ruins and the Vineyard are an easy stroll from the hotel (though in opposite directions!) Would recommend.

Room Tip: We had Room No.6!

We stayed here for two days what a bloody nightmare, we arrived early and was made to wait 30 mins before being allowed to our room. So we had afternoon tea in the grounds very pleasant, we got to our room which I thought we had stepped back to the 80s and had gone to a nursing home with patterned carpets, very dated indeed. we had a lovely afternoon in the city and went back to the room which had been cleaned to not such a good stranded as there was hair in the shower, not mine. We had dinner in the dinning room and the food was fab and the lady that was on duty was working the front desk, the bar and the dinning room. There was NO air conditioning and when we rang to ask for a fan there was only one available and that had been taken. We got up in the night to find our wall and celling was walking with hundreds and hundreds of bugs, We had to move rooms. Breakfast staff were brill and really nice but so let down but the Roman meal for from a banquet very for from it if your a big eater take sandwiches. On the way back home we called in to Lincoln really nice town

Room Tip: there is no good rooms

We recently stayed at the Wroxeter Hotel we found the staff were rude and abrupt, even caught the bar staff talking about another customer who was making polite conversation. The manager / owner was sharp with us and this didn't make our experience a happy one.

The accommodation was very dated and they have a major problem with flies / bugs. The rooms were really hot and if you opened your windows thousands of flies came into the room and it was impossible to get rid of them.

On a positive note the grounds were lovely and the food was of good standard but unfortunately we will not be returning.

Stayed as we were going to the Wroxeter vineyard for a tour and wine tasting in the morning. arrived at 10.00 to drop car off and were able to check in and leave the car without any problems. Friendly receptionist, warm welcome, room wasn't ready (nor did we expect it to be). 5 minute walk to the vineyard.

Room was a good size, freshly painted (still a smell of paint) views over the countryside. Double bed was two singles pushed together with double sheet and double lightweight quilt; comfortable nights sleep, slightly warm (but it had been 30 degrees during the day) and no air conditioning. Plenty of drawers and hanging space, iron and ironing board in wardrobe and tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Flat screen TV on the wall, easy to use. Bathroom adequate size, clean with shampoo and soap dispensers. Shower on the small side, but good water pressure and temp controls. Walls a bit thin, at times could hear the TV from next room, but not a big problem.

Bar had OK choice of beers and was reasonably priced at £3.70 for a pint of San Miguel and £1.85 for a half of cider. Dinner in the restaurant was good, again reasonable prices (about £14.95 for mains) and the service was efficient and very pleasant. We had one starter between two of us and the lamb shank which fell off the bone and was excellent and the pork which again was very good. We shared one portion of market vegetables which were freshly cooked and ample for the two of us. Having been to the vineyard we chose a bottle of the Wroxeter Wrekin white wine, which was nicely chilled and very good although a bit expensive at £19.95, but comparably priced with the rest of the wine list. There were only about 5 tables occupied and it is quite a small restaurant so not sure how they cope if they are very busy, but our service was very good. One odd point was that there was background "music" from a local radio station which just didn't fit the evening, I would have expected a CD of more relaxing music rather than intermittent DJ interuptions but it was relatievly quiet so not a big issue.

Breakfast next morning was very good, cooked to order and included in the £95 B & B rate. I had the fulll English and didn't need to eat anything else until the early evening and my wife enjoyed the toasted bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese; and there was plenty of toast as well if we wanted it.

The hotel has nice grounds and in the afternoon we sat in the gardens reading in a very restful and peaceful setting.

Check out was easy, and uncomplicated even thought we were paying with gift vouchers.

Overall a pleasant hotel, a bit out of the way, with plenty of parking and a ice rural location. very convenient for the Wroxeter vineyard and the Roman ruins.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms look out across the countryside.

Just had a weekend here on a Living Social Deal, we found the Hotel good value for money. Our room was very clean and comfortable, but the walls a really thin and you can hear everything going on in the next room, and no doubt they can hear you too! Also, I think its quite an old hotel, so the floorboards creak quite a bit. Other than that, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was really nice with good quality food and the staff were happy to serve extra if you wanted it.
Included in the price was a "Roman banquet", which was very well thought out with a good variety of food. Again, if you wanted more wine, the pleasant young guy who served us was happy to oblige. i would recommend this hotel, but bring earplugs to sleep with!

Room Tip: Avoid room 4.
