“Wonderful Serene Garden of Old!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Absolutely peaceful walk thru Kandy's 1371 famous gardens of old. This sprawling gardens of 147 acres has over 4000 species under cultivation. It has an orchid house, fernery, rose bed, a 'great lawn', lakes, avenues of palms, spice gardens and the national herbarium.

Rarely do I visit botanicals gardens... this is one beautiful exception! I'd spent the whole day here taking great photos of the flowers especially the roses. If you prefer to save some money, bring in your lunch. Take a nap in the gardens after lunch... and continue on for the remainder in later afternoon when it's not so hot.

“Interesting trees, but the grounds are vast.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

The gardens are huge and need a lot of time and fresh legs. The age of the gardens means that some of the trees are wonderful specimens. A Queensland Kauri, 140 years old, really grabbed our attention, but there were many others equally noteworthy.

A word of warning, though. DO NOT eat at the restaurant inside the Gardens. This once had a good reputation, but now it is disgraceful. Even the local cuisine was inedible rubbish.

“Overwhelming area to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Beautiful gardens providing a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of Kandy's streets. Too much to see and explore on one visit. Public lavatories left a lot to be desired.
After a long, long walk around the gardens it would have been nice to be able to order a cold beer at the café. No such luck!

“One of the best botanical gardens ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Don't miss these beautiful gardens, full of botanical wonders, gorgeous scenery, unusual wildlife and historical interest. You can easily spend a day here. Easily accessible by local bus, and you won't even mind the expensive tourist entry fees.
