We spent a week in late June 2013 at this property and wanted to mention a few pluses and minuses for Villa Neuve. We have been renting properties in France since 1984 so have considerable experience of renting French houses. It is a spacious villa with a very nice pool area however there are a few points in the property online description that we felt could be misleading.
The listing suggest "the family village house is just a short stroll from the centre of Le Muy" however make no mistake it is in the middle of a residential area with all the surrounding noise that goes with multiple, close proximity housing so not a quiet location.
The listing states there are two bathrooms - there is only ONE and its a shower room not a bath room which wasn't a problem for us being just a couple but the general description should be more precise. The hot water seemed to arrive in the morning and last about 5 showers so afternoon showers were often cold. We only had between 2 and 5 occupants at different times during the week so with the maximum occupancy of 7, there could be a lot of cold showers.
The listing stated Internet access as a facility (luxury) . It IS available but it is necessary to purchase top up vouchers which cost me a total of €30 for the week which I was not expecting to have to pay as internet usually is included in the rental charges. The laminated instructions for purchasing Internet vouchers pointed us to 3 local supermarkets however not one of them had any idea what I was asking for but by chance I was directed to a Tabac who was able to supply the Orange top ups. We subsequently found a previous tennant had hand written some revised directions but they were located way in the back of the pack so could have been better highlighted. On this point - there was no formal welcome pack you expect in a property but just a plastic pocket with appliance instruction booklets - not always in English - and some hand written instructions. I queried the charges for the internet with the owners and they replied that "they had received some comments about that"
The owners are charming - we met them on the final handover day - however we feel they are must decide if this property is a professional holiday let or their own property that they share out part time. We found MANY personal items in wardrobes and the bathroom cabinet e.g trainers (and a length of plumbing pipe!) and toiletries and the kitchen had many food items dotted around all of which needed clearing away.
The Hi Fi / AV system in the living room was faulty and did not work during our stay.
There is a lack of cupboard storage space in the bedrooms - there is no wardrobe at all in one of the bedrooms.
The overall maintenance of the property was poor. The shower head was a tricle until we repaired it, the curtain rail in main bedroom was on the point of falling from the wall so we didn't touch the curtains at all and an electrical socket living room didn't work. The villa needed a good dusting when we arrived.
Email communication with the owners often took a while and three times they needed reminders. The listing states the security deposit would be returned one week after leaving (obliviously subject to no breakages). We waited over a month before we wrote to the owner chasing it's return despite the owners taking over the property for the 3 weeks directly after us so able to quickly and at first hand to ascertain if any breakages had taken place needing a deduction from the deposit. This is not satisfactory and quite unprofessional. For example the property we rented for the following week returned the deposit within 48 hours of our leaving. When we did receive the returned deposit, it had cost us nearly £20 in currency conversion charges through our banks.
It is hard for us to recommend this property. Although we enjoyed the pool area and the villa is spacious, there were to many other factors that took the shine off the week.
