I just recently attended a wedding on the island of Corsica last week. Part of my stay was at the condo-type facilities called Sognu di Rena, which is located in Moriani Plage, Village of Felice.
It is a nice facility, decently located near town and on the beach. There is a large pool, well kept grounds and the beach is clean, albeit a bit rocky in spots, bring your water shoes AND your own beach towel(s).
The complaints I have about this place are really service oriented.
The front desk is only available 9a-12p and 4p-7p. If you need anything like bath towels, an iron, hairdryer, directions or any info, better get down there then because that's it for front desk coverage, otherwise it's locked up tight !
The condo units are clean, but you are given NOTHING. Not even a starter role of toilet paper and you have to pay 3 euros for any towels for the week. There are dishes, pots and pans, all adequete. Our unit was near the pool so if peace and quiet is what you like forget it...there are lots of kids yelling and screaming all day long and it echos all around the complex. Just a warning, if you don't have kids or prefer to not be around them.
So any extra towels, like for the beach? There's a charge, so I ended up buying a beach towel at a local Wal-Mart type of place nearby.
There is a supermarket down the street, but unlike in the US, they are closed up early at like 7:30pm. So my advice would be to get there first before hitting the condos (unless it's near to the "closed" times!) to get supplies, food, toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, etc. All units have a small kitchen, t.v. trundle bed couch. All eating is done outside on the balcony, unless you feel like dragging the table inside!
Oh and p.s., no A/C....the weather there is beautiful now (June/July), but I bet August would be really stuffy without it, by the beach or not.
And the Visa card is king on the island...hardly anyone takes Amex.
Go to Porto Vecchieo (sp?) for the day, about an hour and a half drive, a really easy shot to wonderful beaches, shops and restaurants. The beaches are more like the Carribean there than in Moriani.
Take a drive anywhere thru the moutains...the driving is just like here in the US, same side of the road and everything....that makes it much easier when driving thru the moutains, trust me ! Lots of hairpin turns, random gatherings of goats/cows/pigs in the road and not a guardrail anywhere! But it's very cool, very "Old World", very laid back.
I found the people to be lovely,...none of that "French people are rude and hate Americans" bull...I always say, find out for yourself. And you will. Corsica is a lovely, interesting island.
