“Beautiful scenery in the mountains of Sri Lanka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

We have Peaceful and quiet hotel with great views and very friendly staff. We spent 4 days in this magnificent landscape and enjoy the tranquility of the evening after the trips to the area. Kandy is accessible by bus in an hour. The hotel is highly recommended.

We stayed only one night because we had no more time.. when we'd expected how beautiful the landscape is and what a great place this guesthouse is we'd spent much longer time there. All is so clean, the view (from every room is wonderfull) is great, the food is delicous and Prasanna and Atula are very friendly and helpfull! Thanks a lot and we'll come back for sure!

I've been travelling in Sri Lanka for almost one month now and have seen quite a lot of this country by now. So I can say that Green View Holiday Resort has THE most unbelivable view from almost every room! After the delicious, strengthening breakfast (I had some wonderfully good pancakes with coconut sambol and honey) you can do great hiking tours from this place and after you return, relax while you're enjoying a sweet Lassi.
The staff is so nice, Athula and Justin are always smiling and the caretaker Prasanna makes the best food in my opinion and was most most helpful during my stay! The rooms are clean and the kingsize beds are very comfortable.
I would return here anytime and recommend this place for everybody who loves being in the mountains!

My friends and I have stayed in this hotel for 3 times - and we want to come back there again one day.
The hotel is situated in the Knuckles Range, about 15km from Kandy (it'll take you about 30-40 min to get there from Kandy).
The hotel's caretaker and cook, Prasanna, is a very nice guy. The first time I've stayed in Green View with a big crowd (13 people all together) Prasanna and his helpers managed to fulfill everyone's demands with no prob, which wasn't too easy considering children, adults and many other complications:-))
Hotel rooms are big, clean, have either balconies (on the upper level) or small terraces (on the lower level), bathrooms are quite good and clean, too. Hot water, fans, nets are in place.
Whether it's a sunny or rainy day - it's gorgeous out there. You can either walk or sit on the roof/balcony and watch the clouds come and go, fog to slide in and out, sunrise or sunset. The place is ideal for meditation:-)
You can also get a tuk tuk to the Hunas Falls Hotel (4* hotel, about 20 min drive) if you want to enjoy mini golf course, spice garden, swimming pool or lovely (though fancy) restaurant overlooking the pond and a private waterfall.
If you'd like to stay in a small hotel in a secluded place, not fancy, but in a good condition (considering SL), incredible view, privacy but not too far from civilization - it's a good place.

We arrived late, so driving up the dark lane to get to the hotel was daunting.... was it open!?

When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly caretaker and there was a cook too. The owner I'd called wasn't there. I think this hotel is mostly used for weddings and sri lankan tourists visiting at weekends, so if you go mid week, you're likely to have it to yourself. There was one other person staying when we went.

Our room was spotless, the fan worked (but we used our own mossie net) and the food was really great. Order the Sri Lankan curry every time - they know how to make that! We ate in a room that is obviously used to host big parties - it had a dance floor!

In the morning it rained, so we didn't do the walk as planned, but there was someone to take us. I suspect we'd have just followed some trails between villages, but it is really lovely there with lots of forest and tea plantations.

It may be a concrete block, but this really is a good place in the back of beyond. Go there to get away from it all and be enchanted.

Took a gamble when booking this hotel - given the lack of reviews - but went ahead with it, hoping to get off the beaten Kandy path and get some exercise in the lush Knuckles countryside. The hotel is in a picturesque location, with uninterrupted views of the hills, but it is a charmless, concrete slab that, more or less, has been abandoned and left to decay. The only person around was the caretaker. The first room we checked into had a leaking toilet and the fan had disappeared (strange to be given this room considering that we were the ONLY guests) and the second room was not much better with a dirty floor and bed so soft that you particularly hit the floor when you sat on it.

There were no guided walking tours or suggestions, contrary to Lonely Planet information. The caretaker pointed us towards the main road and told us to ask around. Since there are no restaurants or food stalls nearby, there is little choice but to eat in the hotel’s dark and depressing dining room. We had a mutton curry, costing 1000 rupees, which was mostly bones, overloaded with hacks of ginger and barely edible.

We planned to stay two nights but left after one night, before breakfast, feeling disgruntled and ripped off after paying 2500 rupees (plus 10%) and another 1500 for a three-wheeler to spend a night in this dreadful and deserted place.

We stayed at the Green View for 5 days. It is in the most fantastic location in the hills some 15 miles from Kandy. We did loads of walking in the surrounding countryside, through the tea plantations and in the forest. The hotel itself is at first a little off-putting, as your first sight is the large (and empty) function space which is used for occasional weddings. However, there are actually only about eight rooms for guests, and for much of the time there were few other people there.

Like many places in Sri Lanka the building could do with smartening up, but all the important features are there. We had a large room, a very comfortable bed and a working fan. Sarath the manager and his wife provided excellent food, were helpful, amusing and made our stay extremely enjoyable.
