“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

We stayed in Maia on January. Truly best hotel in Seychelles with great facilities and absolute privacy. Villas decor is natural and immaculate. Sound System all over the villa with AirPort wonderful! Butler service with attention to details makes great experience. Chef Kumar was at his best indulging our tastes! Spa with Balinese touch is great. Huge appreciation to Andrew a Russian Front Office Manager and his team who anticipated our requests. Unfortunate to hear that Monsieur Vidal no longer hosting this Paradise!
Great Hotel with best concept the place worth to be back over and over again!

My husband and I booked to stay at Maia for 9 days through an italian travel agency. We booked demi-pension, breakfast included. We calculated the cost was around 2000 Euros a night for both of us.
As soon as we arrived we were taken by buggy to our Signature Villa (210) which had stunning sea views. It was quite isolated from the public areas of the resort but anyone in their 30s could easily walk down to the pool/restaurant within a few minutes. We were greeted by Pegita, our butler who would be looking after us for our entire stay.
We arrived at lunchtime as we had taken a very early morning flight from Dubai, needless to say we were starving. We perused the snack menu and although we were prepared for extortionate prices, we were shocked to find that a hamburger was going to set us back 45 Euros! So we asked Pegita if we could have the breakfast that was included in our daily rate. She explained to us that the arrival day did not include breakfast, we asked her whether they may be able to make an exception. Ten minutes later, the food and beverage manager turned up at our villa and charitably told us they would make a very special exception and allow us to have a "complimentary" breakfast...please remember we are paying 2000 Euros a day!

The room was absolutely beautiful, very well appointed and featured lovely Hermes amentities. It was spotless. Our private pool was also lovely. The only setback was that our villa never got any sun and therefore the loungers were completely pointless.

The meals in the restaurant were superb and although we had demi-pension, we were able to order anything from the varied menu and the excellent chef would cook anything we desired.
Genevieve, the sommelier was incredibly helpful and was always ready to recommend wined to suit our taste/food without recommending the most expensive wine on the menu. Genevieve really was the highlight of our meals in the restaurant, absolutely charming and friendly.

Days were spent on the beach where the beach staff would cater to our every need. The sea was quite rough in August but the scenery was stunning!

There is however one memory, we wish we could forget: on one of the evenings, the general manager, Francois Richli, came to our table during dinner and complimented me on my necklace. "You must be in competition with each other," he continued motioning to my husband. Now, my husband is Italian and an incredibly elegant dresser, he also likes his jewellery and watches but by no means does he ever show off. "I saw your watch," he says pointing at my husband's wrist. "Very nice,....I am italian and I like to show off....yeahhhh" he says in a mocking italian accent, and he just walked off!
Needless to say, my husband and I were speechless. We decided we would write to the owner of the hotel and asked the reception for their contact details. The next thing we knew we had the resident manager at our villa. We explained the situation but said we didn't want it going any further whilst we were still staying at the residence as we did not want to feel uncomfortable. It had already gone too far: the next day whilst lying on the beach, the resident manager came to us with an apology letter from the general manager. My husband refused to read it.

On our itinerary, given to us by our Italian travel agency, I read that as well as the breakfast and demi-pension we would also receive a complimentary signature Maia 60 minute massage.
The day before we left, I asked Pegita to book it for us. The massage was lovely and when it came to signing the bill, I informed the masseuse that it was complimentary with our "package". She called the reception who said they weren't aware of this. We went back to our villa. Pegita then asked us for the itinerary so she could photocopy it. It turns out that our agency made a mistake and would be paying for our massage. This was so petty and it seems there is so much red tape in this resort!

All in all, yes, a great honeymoon resort but if planning on staying at Maia:
-Please note you will be spending a lot more on extras than you thought (500 euros for 15 in a helicopter...)
-Don't get into a conversation with Francois Richli, the general manager, you may regret it
-Make sure you know what is included in your "package" before booking any massages
-Take sunscreen: they conveniently don't sell it in their "boutique" but a La Prairie version is available in your minibar at 150 Euros

Room Tip: 210 is beautiful but doesn't get any sun...ever

Dear Mr & Mrs Cantone,

I wish to thank you for your feedback re your recent stay at MAIA and for both your complimentary comments as well the unfortunate incident which occurred during your stay.

I would like to offer a sincere apology on behalf of the General Manager, Francois Richli, with whom I have been in contact with. He profusely regrets that he made such a frivolous and totally unacceptable statement, and mistakably, overstepped the boundary of his “English” sense of humour. He advised that he did in fact hand you a letter of apology, which he hoped would show his irreverent lack of judgement and his underserved apology. He has certainly learnt from this most unfortunate incident and is deeply apologetic about his behaviour.

MAIA is an exclusive Resort, and as you discovered offers great beauty and a level of service which we hope relates to its positioning. We try and allocate villas with stunning sea views, however in doing so, unfortunately at certain times of the year, one or two lack in sunshine, but we are pleased to hear that your butler provided first-class service. We do appreciate your comments about “red tape’ and are looking into this aspect, as we wish guests to enjoy unfettered freedom and complete transparency.

We do appreciate your taking the time to tell us about your experience, and take serious cognisance of each guest’s feedback, which enables us to take action and refine our services and facilities.

Best Regards.

Fantastic times spent at Maia Luxury in Seychelles, no doubt one of the most beautiful property in the world and well managed.
Signature couple massage at Spa is a must when staying there.
Special thanks to the attentive team and our dedicated butler for making this 2 nights stay one of the greatest moments in my life.

Room Tip: Enjoy a cocktail at bar near the infinity pool at sunset

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in the Seychelles. Maya is a place where you can totally relax in the lovely atmosphere. We loved the place and would really like to go back there. Service and food was of the highest class, and the location on the beach was perfect. People who worked there were very smiley and caring. Although the price of food and drinks are high in this place, you certainly get value for money. Our butler Pasek Kojeck made our stay wonderful. He is one of the reasons we want back to this great place. He is strongly recommended, and he did many great things for us, as separate bands on the beach, with a table for just the two of us, with candles everywhere. This is the most romantic thing we've ever experienced and this is something we will never forget. Thank you for the best honeymoon <3

We stayed here for just 2 nights and paid quite an amount. The place looks lovely and the service towards guests is fine.

However, we were so embarrassed with an unfriendly behavior of one of hotel employees - Artur Jakobenko. Friends of us, who stayed in Seychelles the same time, visited Maia considering moving here. The friends came to Maia when we were away and they asked for a tour around the hotel. Artur started to harass friends by telling them that they may not know how expensive Maia is and they probably can't afford it! He refused to do a tour in first place.

It was just unacceptable and I'd never stay again at Maia. That behavior delivered quite some misunderstanding with the friends who felt abused by Artur.

Thank you for taking the time to provide positive feedback about your recent stay at Maia Luxury Resort & Spa. At Maia, it is our mission to deliver world-class service which not only focuses on providing the finer things in life, but matches the unique beauty of our property. Our staff are dedicated to ensuring that each guest receives that “special treatment” and therefore we were shocked to hear that a member of staff, who we might add, is no longer employed by us, was rude to your visitors who were interested in viewing the property. Sadly, this is a case where “one bad apple can ruin all the good” but we also know that our staff work tirelessly to harness the spirit of goodwill, which is reflected in the number of glowing reports we regularly receive from our guests.

We are disappointed that our image has been tarnished by this one individual, who unfortunately, we are unable to censure, as he is no longer with us. Please be assured that we are committed to providing exceptional service, and a memorable experience.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Maia.

We spent 4 nights in bliss! The hotel has no reception so we got maximum privacy going in and out. Our butler suggested and arranged excursions depending on availability and weather, she even arranged bath after a long day out.

The rooms in Maia are spacious but yet ours sometimes smelled a little off so pay attention to that when checking-in (which takes place in your room). In terms of cleanliness, i'd suggest that you ask to have checked when making a reservation; the pantry was a little dirty with stains and sticky cupboards. On the other hand the bed was so comfortable, you wouldn't want to get out of it. A buggy was always outside so we never had to wait. Our butler was great at preparing our breakfast and would give us our time when we needed our privacy. Don't expect much out of the main hotel restaurant though, guests usually go to Four Seasons and Banyan Tree for dinner and we did just that however we were always encouraged at Maia to ask for something that was not already on the menu and they prepared it for us.

Room Tip: Your clothes could be taken for dry cleaning without your permission. We ended up paying 160 euros f...

This is without a doubt one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The service is impeccable, the food is excellent and the villas are gorgeous. The attention to detail is superb - from the incredible coco de mer bathroom taps to the service from all of the staff (including your butler) to the questionnaire that you fill in before you arrive to ensure that everything is to your liking (music, flowers, etc).

The hotel is situated on one of Mahe's best beaches (Anse Louis) and even though the beach itself is not a private one - no beaches are in Seychelles unless you are on a private island - the resort is incredible exclusive. They do not allow non hotel guests to use the hotel facilities, so the place does not feel crowded. In fact, for the whole of our stay we did not even see another hotel guest - although we did eat all of our meals in our villa! You could probably spend the entire holiday in your villa, swimming in your pool and looking at the stunning views. However this would be a shame because there is a lot in Seychelles that is also worth seeing.

Our butler Samantha was brilliant and provided an incredible service. As a Seychellois she was able to tell us a lot about the country, which gave an added dimension to our stay. Basically this is the hotel to come to if you want a tailored experience - if you can think of it, they will provide it and we simply had the time of our lives.

We will definitely return.

Room Tip: If you want maximum privacy then take a villa in the hills rather than one on the beach.
