I stayed at the Barcelo from Jan 31- Feb 7th, 2005, on the ride to the resort the tour guide said there was lots of mangos and that everyone in Panama speaks english because it is mandatory in school. I quickly found out she was not telling the truth because, almost every staff member on the resort spoke limited english , and when we went on the tour of Panama city, we were met with the same problem. I must say it was frustrating at times. Furthermore, I couldn't find mangos anywhere. Another thing that I found annoying was when we went into a store, they followed you everywhere. Let me say this, they were not discreet, even though my bright florescent bracelet was prominent on my wrist. When we spoke with other guests, they expressed the same problem. On the flip side, the tour of the canal was great and the resort was clean. Hopefully they will build around the resort soon, because we found it to be a little boring at times. Don't get me wrong its a beautiful place, they just need to brush up on a few things! Have a good one!
