“Mr”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Maybe we went on the wrong day, looking at the other reviews here, but we found the waiting staff very lacking - they didn't know who they'd served and who they hadn't and were quite inefficient.
The standard breakfasts were small, lukewarm, and were missing the black pudding. When I was eventually able to get the attention of the waiting staff they went off to the kitchen and came back to tell us they had run out. Not a word about it beforehand though! We were offered an extra sausage instead but they arrived when we'd nearly finished our meals. At least they were hot.
So, the food was tasty but for the money, nearly £7 each, there was not enough of it and it was not hot enough.
Won't be going again.

“Great for breakfast! Lovely shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

I have been here lots for breakfast and love it. I usually have scrambled eggs on toast in vague effort to be well-behaved but the full breakfasts are lush. I've also been to a friends birthday in the evening and the food was just beautiful. The shop and deli is lovely with great selection.

“Enjoyable ... would revisit and would recommend to others”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I have been to Quex Barn several times for their breakfast ... but my wife and I ate their in the evening, last Saturday night. The barn only opens two evenings a week. We both chose the beer battered cod, with chunky chips and mushy peas, then we shared a chocolate crunchie cheesecake.

The service was friendly, the food was good, wholesome and reasonably priced. It is not a romantic venue, as such, but we had an enjoyable meal, and shared a bottle of wine. So two nice mains, a shared desert and a bottle of wine for £40-00, which I thought was very reasonable under the circumstances.

“Not what it says on the tin (roof)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Went there today for lunch, wasn't expecting full a la carte or anything of that ilk but at least the food should have been good. Above the entrance to the restaurant is a sign stating good food cooked at the barn from fresh produce from the barn
Cheddar cheeses and red oinion relish, neither from the barn, most probably from Tesco or similar. Cheese was sweaty, grated, tastless 'cheddar' and the onion relish wasn't what it made out it was. Onion, maybe, a relish, it definitely wasn't.
Then there was the Kentish Ham and Wholegrain mustard, both again from a supermarket. For £6.00 I expected carver ham taken from a ham joint. This was reprocessed packet 'ham'.
The highlight of the meal was the salad. Excellent.
There was no follow up as to whether we enjoyed the meal. Also the whole restaurant had an odour of old / stale cooking oil.
The shop - ok, so it's not quite the height of summer but, the butchers, fish-mongers, cheese and fancy food sections were all un-manned and no-one seemed all that eager to sell us any of the 'local' wares.
Over-all a bit disappointing.
