“Friendly staff, shame about the noisy guest's and music! !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for just one night and wished we hadn't. The room we stayed in was clean, but dated and slightly cramped. Unfortunately there was a very noisy party taking place in the hotel, with very loud music and guest's.
Was kept awake by the beat of the music, we couldn't shut the windows otherwise we would have melted as the room was like an oven! Then the constant banging of bedroom doors started and shouting and banging on doors. Then someone decided at 2am to have a bath!!!!!
I think in the end we only managed 4 hour's of sleep, when the people next door woke us up with their loud talking.
The staff however were polite when we arrived and apologetic when we left.

The hotel is large and dis-jointed, so check where you room is, before bag-carrying - it can be a walk up hill and down dale. Difficult to find English spoken here, except in a dis-jointed and fractured form. But - the location is for for both local transactions and hopping across the channel.
Be down early for breakfast - we were much interupted by fire alarms, which led to evacuation, and then when back in to finding that the gas to the kitchen had been automatically cut off - and so no hot food.
And - the whole place is a little worn and seedy - a Mercure should be better than this.

Thank you for your review and other comments which have been noted.
I am very sorry that you were woken by the fire alarm. Guest safety is a top priority and we do of course take any fire risk seriously. The gas supply is shut off automatically and I am sorry that the breakfast service was disrupted as a result. The full Continental selection was available until the system was re-set and the guest hair tongs removed.
Sincerely
Dominic

The room was very small. You could not get out of bed without catching your feet on something. The bath was small.
The service at reception was below the standard i expected. The service at breakfast was excellent,

Dear Terry
Thank you for your feedback.
I am sorry you were not happy with your room. I gather we were full that night and were unable to offer an alternative. We have a number of different room types and would recommend a Privilege or Superior room. I am pleased you found the breakfast service to be good and have noted your other concerns. I understand that Theresa has been in touch and we hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the Mercure Maidstone again in the future.
Sincerely
Dominic

Stayed here for two nights. Typical hotel room with reasonable sound proofing. Slightly tired pool, larger than a lot of hotels with sauna, steamroom and jacuzzi. Small pitch and putt available but grass on the greens a bit long for putting on. Nice choice of cooked breakfast although no black pudding. Sausages lovely though. Helpful cheery staff. Bar area clean and modern but disappointed no local bitters available. Saturday night had singer in the bar. Very impressed with him, sang Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra style, created nice atmosphere. Food in restaurant very reasonably priced but someone should tell the Chef the difference between rare and well done steak. Coffee sachets, tea and earl grey bags in room but no biscuits. Very soft pillows. But beware noisy peacocks roaming around outside in the early hours. Hotel a quarter of a mile from Leeds Castle. Would stay here again

Stayed recently as part of a group. Ideal location for us to use as a base. Rooms good and clean, breakfast plentiful and good service. Didn't have dinner so can't comment on that, bar is usual hotel prices.

Nice hotel, staff are very friendly and happy to help. Grounds are lovely but not much to walk around. Very much enjoyed the food at the hotel, especially dinner as some entertainment was provided by a young man singing Buble and Sinatra hits, I didn't catch his name but he was brilliant! Rooms are comfortable and clean. The swimming pool area could do with a bit of refurb but overall a pleasant stay.

Hard to find (my fault)
Long way out of town
Once we became familiar with the roads around the hotel we had less difficulty getting back to base.
Food was good and breakfast was easily accessed and staff were helpful
