“Excellent dininng experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

We have just returned from an Italian wine and gourmet dining evening. What a super time. Gem of a small country hotel set in lovely country gardens off the beaten track. Charming owners, attentive, friendly, professional staff and delicious gourmet food. Louisa, the evening's wine expert should take credit for her wine choices and an interesting and informal presentation. We'll be back!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Wine and Gourmet weekend in November, I am delighted that you had a fantastic weekend.

The wine weekend next November will be hosted by a Spanish winemaker and we will be using only wines from his vineyard. Information will be published soon !!

I will pass your comments on to the team here particularly the kitchen.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Rose in Vale soon.

Best wishes

Used this for an anniversary celebration via Groupon. Hotel is much smaller than you expect from the photos. Our room was very small despite upgrading to a superior, meal was very good quality though more expensive than I would expect to pay, restaurant not very friendly and tables so close together forget any chance of having a private conversation with a loved one.
Swimming pool very, very small but out of action for renovation; no other outdoor activities as advertised; gardens not worth the 2 minute walk that it takes to get round, about 3 flowers in the whole area and not the 10 acres as suggested in the advertising, it may stand in 10 acres but 9.9 of them are inaccessible weeds, brambles and nettles.
It is well placed for walking the south west and the famous South West Coastal Path and we certainly enjoyed the local countryside, exactly what we wanted.
Having said all that the hotel was good for the price we paid. I would have been very upset if I'd paid full price.

Room Tip: On our experiance go higher than the first upgrade level of Joyce Nankivel but I suspect you still d...

Thank you for writing your review of the Rose in Vale.
I have to say that you comments are at odds with feedback from other guests. Most people say that Hotel is far larger than it looks from the front, and considering that we are a Country House hotel one would not expect it to be oversized.
Your comments about the grounds are very harsh and not factual.
I am dumbfounded that you found our restaurant cramped and unfriendly.
There seems to be a bit of a theme with your review.
We try our hardest to please everyone one of our guests, regrettably we have failed in this endeavour with you. I am sorry that this was the case !

I am sorry that you did not let us know your concerns whilst you were with us as this would have given us the opportunity to do better for you.

Regards

We went as part of a groupon deal. We upgraded to a superior room which was very good and very warm. The problem was although the receptionist was very pleasant the lounge area was most unwelcoming and poorly lit. We had one evening meal which was expensive for the very small portion, though well cooked. The menu was somewhat restricting as was borne out by the fact that most of the guests, including ourselves, decamped to the excellent pub within easy walking distance the following evening. It offered excellent selection at a reasonable price and was very friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: pay for an upgrade

We stayed at this hotel on a Groupon deal but upgraded to a suite. When I first contacted the hotel to ask about making a reservation I also enquired about an upgrade. I then contacted them again to confirm the reservation but was given a different price for the upgrade. When I told them this they immediately honoured the original price which was excellent. The staff were so friendly and the surroundings fantastic. Also in the room were details of various walks which we did & the directions were spot on. The only drawback I would say would be the cost for the set menu in the restaurant as the portions were very small. However, saying that I would definately return for a further visit.

Room Tip: We had room 15 which was a suite. So peaceful and overlooked the gardens.

Stayed as a group, October 2011, walking the coast path around the St Agnes Head area.
Delightful 3/4 star hotel with excellent food and attractive dining room, with efficient friendly owners and staff. New bedroom extension recently completed and outside pool under renovation for next season.Only 4 miles from coast path in quiet off road location, ample parking.

What a perfect spot to come and do nothing but unwind and chill........ and what excellent, welcoming, friendly staff...... it was more like staying with family or friends than at an hotel. Full marks for the sympathetic extension, too. The restaurant is excellent, catering easily for my vegetarian wife: plaudits all round, as well, for the breakfast. Nice, well decorated rooms, wheelchair ramps and lift available, lovely grounds. No, there are no lights outside. Big deal, it's the country, get over it. Such glitz would spoil the atmosphere totally. A nice walk up to the pub at the top of the hill in the dark? No problem: nobody speeds on these roads! Especially not at night!!! Got a deal through Groupon, but would definitely come back at normal price, work permitting. I did feel sorry for the poor guys refurbishing the pool, however: the Cornish drizzle made their work pretty unpleasant! All in all, a comfortable, welcoming, relaxing, well-located country house hotel worth staying at if intending to visit the Duchy.

Thank you for your review I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We had negative feedback about the pool and as a consequence we decided to build what will in effect be a new pool, as I have previously described on this site. The work on the pool is happening, but very slowly, as is often the case in Cornwall !! I am sure that the end product will be worth waiting for.

With regard to the lighting, the reality is, being in the countryside there are no pavements, no street lights and only a limited mobile phone signal. To most of our guests this is part of the attraction of visiting a rural Country House Hotel such as the Rose in Vale. To the others,....... there is not a lot we can say or do !!!

Thanks once again for your comments we look forward to welcoming you back to the Rose in Vale.

Regards

Set in a lovely valley at the bottom of a hill. On first look it was a really pleasant surprise and backed up once we checked. Staff were very friendly and polite. Room 4 where we stayed was large and very clean and well presented with large flat screen TV on the wall and bathrobes in the large en-suite bathroom. We stayed for a couple of days B&B and had the large full Cornish breakfast which kept us going all day. It was very peaceful setting and lovely place to relax. Lovely pub at the top of the hill called the Miners Arms where we had evening meal twice. Very good value and tasty pub grub. With welcoming staff and locals.
