“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Our stay at The Anchorage was a very enjoyable couple of days. Our loft suite was nice and roomy and the resort has a lovely position next to the marina with views over the water. breakfast was very good with a huge range of choices. We dined one night at Merretts Restaurant and the food was excellent. All the staff were friendly and efficient which added to our stay. The only demerit for the resort is that it is looking a little"tired" and in need of a bit more maintenance - hopefully that will happen with the new owners.

Although we were off to a rough start with check in being from 2.00pm we arrived just after being notified by the receptionist that our room was not ready and they would call us as soon as it was. Two and a half hours later our room was ready by this time we quite frustrated as we had been driving for 5 hrs and just wanted to refresh.
We then decided to upgrade to a suite as the original room we booked was very standard, the young man on reception kindly assisted us with our requests and allocated us to a gorgeous loft suite at a great rate!
Yes the rooms are a little tired and are in need of a make over, but there also very comfortable and clean, the staff very friendly and helpful especially the bar man who made us some great cocktails!!
Having such great weather during our stay we were lucky enough to swim at the anchorages own private beach and explore Port Stephens.
We will defiantly be back to relax and unwind at Peppers Anchorage.

I had a great time with my family, but the rooms should be more modern and with more attention to detail. This property is in category 5 stars and the decor, carpets, bathrooms, drapes and furniture do not reflect this. The rooms are more to be rating 3 stars. So I think the price is too high for what you get. I had higher expectations for this hotel.

After 2 weeks of deciding where to stay in port Stephens finally booked our 4 night stay at The Anchorage. I then came across the negative reviews on Trip advisor and I must admit I was wondering if I made the right choice for my husband and I to stay here. To late to cancel (that's how much the reviews had me worried), and decided to just go and hope for the best.
We arrived, from the moment we got to reception the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the staff at reception, at breakfeast, room service and housekeeping were extremely friendly. They helped you in anyway they could.
The Anchorage is very clean and tidy, we stayed in the Captains Suite, ground level with breathtaking views (room 305).
The hotel is not as outdated as people on tripadvisor have stated. Having said that it is not ultra modern either. It's a marina, a seaside resort, not a swanky resort. You honestly get your money's worth when staying here.
The carpark was full, which would indicate that the resort was full, however it was so peacefull and quiet. We felt we were the only ones there, that's how quiet it was.
Breakfeast buffet was amazing, everything was so fresh. I regret that we did not eat at the restraunt, however we did have room service, steak sandwiches, the best we had, so good ordered them 2 nights in a row. If you stay here you have to try them.
We plan on coming back here, we finally found our perfect holiday destination. It is close to Nelson Bay, close to the beaches (highly recommend Birubi Beach). The anchorage is the perfect escape from Sydney. A beautiful resort, away from the busy Nelson Bay. I highly recommend booking your next weekend away or week long stay. Next time we will be staying for a week.
Thank you to all the staff at the anchorage for our memorable stay at the anchorage, look forward to returning soon.

An nice relaxing weekend despite the rain, We have stayey here before some time ago and in some respects it is getting a bit tired in some areas however overall was great. Nice to be able to relax on the balcony read a book and watch the world go by.
Dinner a the hotel was excellent and the overall service was very good indeed.. I would certainly return.

Room Tip: Ask for room upstairs with balcony rather than downstairs with courtyard, far more private.

It must be difficult to have in the beautiful Nelson Bay area an outstanding hotel. It is very good for children, but adults can enjoy it as well. The location is beautiful and the rooms are excellent looking oujt over the bay. Diner was very good with fresh fish.

In planning a short family getaway around Nelson Bay, I wanted somewhere pleasant to stay where you feel you're really getting your money's worth. Somewhere close to all the attractions, restaurants, and beaches. A place you'd be looking forward coming back to after a long day "out & about" and feel almost reluctant to leave the next day.

I initially wanted to try out some of the other places recommended by the TripAdvisor Community. After matching their reviews with my needs, I decided to come back to Peppers instead. What a stroke of GENIUS that turned out to be!

We ended up having the MOST AWESOME short holiday ever and it all started with the choice of home base. Let me use a few adjectives to shorten this review...CLEAN, SERENE, QUIET, PRISTINE, RELAXED, COMFORTABLE, SCENIC, BEAUTIFUL. Peppers is more Yacht Club than hotel but doesn't come with the high-brow baggage.

Make sure you have a meal or two at Merrets (other than breakfast if you chose the Getaway package). We stayed at the Loft Suite this time but every type of room has its own charm. The pool was perfect fun for the kids and we even enjoyed the hot spa. The beach adjacent was convenient, nice enough, and especially suited for kids. We rented a kayak from the marina and had good fun. We all agreed we'll try the jetskis next time.

We had a fantastic 3 nights and would've stayed for more if not for work commitments! A few friends even happened to drop by en route to other destinations and were left quite impressed with "our digs".

If you're planning a trip to Nelson Bay, stop looking for a place to stay. THIS IS IT! You'll spend a bit more but it will be worth every cent. You wanna stay somewhere At Par or Better than your own home, right? Unless you're going camping, why waste your money on some flea infested cave?

IN PEPPERS, WE TRUST. Give it a try. You will too.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have a view of the sea. Just to be sure, ask for one.
