“Enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We have stayed here twice in the past 12 months and will return again.
Unfortunately it was raining during this stay, but it did not deter from our enjoyment of the whole experience.
Lovely location where you are within a minute's walk of the beach.
The staff were very pleasant and accommodating, especially Amanda on front desk.
We had a scrumptious buffet breakfast in the dining room. Although we were asked by Amanda and also received a call from Kate to ask if we were dining in the Restaurant for dinner, we had other plans for this stay. Still, it was pleasant to be asked!
The room was spacious, clean and had a view of the water.
We had an enjoyable short stay.

This establishment has its own marina and would appeal to boaties wanting to tie up for a few days. The location is a bit isolated although pretty and after a couple of days you would go stir crazy without transport. The accommodation is up to the usual Peppers standard and you pay accordingly. It's a good spot for a conference as the facilities are excellent for up to around 100. My only grumble is that I could only get pay tv not free to air and that was limited to sports and sky tv.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a water view. The location is lovely and it's a shame to not see it.

Great waterside location, ok sized room but lacking basics - first time I've stayed in a hotel where the minibar lacked a bottle opener. Travelled with friends whose room also lacked a bottle opener.

Ordered room service, food was ok and arrived quickly.

Parking is very hit and miss as no preference for guests

Overall ok, but given the location it could be so much better with a little effort

I have been coming here on an annual basis roughly each September. Few gripes, the beauty spa is a bit hit and miss, one year it had closed down completely and it seems to have different operators each time but if you can get in its a pleasant experience.

Rooms not changed much since coming but are light spacious and airy. I love the 1950's inspired tv and liquor cabinet. Grounds are always immaculate staff very professional and attentive.

Breakfast is a must in the lovely attrium sun coming in water views. Food is very high quality I have had meals in the restaurant and as part of corporate dinner and always impressed with it. Use a lot of local produce including Hunter wines

Not sure i would bring kids but i see a lot of them and they are always happy. Short drive from Nelson Bay and other attractions..

Good for corporate events and there are wedding packages.

Overall I recomend a stay

Room Tip: ask for queen or deluxe . But they also have fabulous loft suites if you want to indulge

Beautiful location, idyllic setting, functional rooms. Had a great time whilst travelling north and stopped for a 2 night stay. Check in quick and easy (although we had a bit of difficulty finding our room, no room numbers noted at the multiple entrances- just around the corner isn't enough information.), rooms well presented and clean. Bathrooms are a little dated but clean & functional. Towels for pool/beach provided as well as normal towels. Views from rooms lovely and not a lot of noise or activity from adjacent rooms. TV a good size, movies on demand available at a cost with no Foxtel movie channels available. Internet &/or wi fi available at a cost. Pool, spa, sauna & showers available in activities area. Restaurant in beautiful location with full buffet breakfast of high quality available between 7 - 10am. Laundry amenities available to guests in external building. Parking is first in and can be difficult to find at peak times with no street parking available for quite a distance if you are unable to get a park in the grounds. The rooms are in clusters in buildings built with access from 2 floors ( no elevators, so if you have a lot of luggage and/or a pram you might consider requesting a ground room). The bar is centrally located and is child friendly with billard table and 2 adjoining large rooms, one like a huge sunroom with bench setting and chairs and tables, the other a more lounge room type setting with settees and chairs, great for when a group of you get together. We spent a lazy afternoon in the sunroom and ordered some light snacks served here for our evening meal the second night. Service & assistance Staff were very obliging and friendly without being familiar. The restaurant, Merretts, was outstanding in many ways (see seperate review) and the setting absolutely magical.
Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to return or recommend it to others.

We stayed here for an extended weekend getaway.

The location is magical and we spent a lovely afternoon sitting on our balcony drinking champange.

We ate at the resturant on the Friday night - we booked for 8 pm - the food was very nice - the wine list was ok - but - becuase of our later booking we were one of the last couples in the room and they started to set up for breakfast and were extraordinarily loud - it was very annonying.

The buffet breakfast was unfortunatly average at best - I was not blown away by it at all.

We took advantage of the Sunset Cruise as part of our package - It was magical - A beautiful yacht took us out to a sheltered cove where we had the biggest oysters I have ever eaten and a lovely cheese platter with a bottle of bubbly. We had planned to go into town for dinner but were too full from the trip so just stayed in.

Overall the building is in some genuine need of major TLC - and given the premium price we paid to stay on a weekend it was a bit disapointing but the location was great so I am not going to whinge.

I would go back - I just loved the location.

The room was large and well appointed. Staff at the reception and in the lounge/bar area were excellent. The location is just stunning and the hotel was excellent value for money. We will be back.
