“Villa Rita”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at Villa Rita. It is a small place and simple but that is its charm. Spiros, the owner, could not have been more helpful with advice on places to visit (and no he was not trying to sell us stuff), the best places to eat and got us car hire dropped off and picked up from the hotel (and the hire was a good rate).
The rooms are spacious and clean with a fresh decor and crisp white cotton sheets. The only thing we would have wanted was a kettle, as they tend to boil water on a stove, but that is such a small matter. I only mention this because you must realise that if you wanted 5 star then you do have to go somewhere else. However for its star rating this hotel punches well above its weight and I would thoroughly recommend it.
This is a quiet area, perfect for families, a five minute walk to the beach shops and tavernas but I would recommend a car as the village is limited.
Thank you Spiros for a perfect holiday from the Halse family

Room Tip: The hotel is small so they all have a good aspect.

Rita Apartments is a very charming spot with a lovely pool (with baby area) and garden with enough space for children to play in, a wooden castle and slide for older kids is available, though it was suitable for our 2 year old as it is quite high and would probably only be usable by children of the ages 4 or 5 and above. The apartments are located just outside a small town on the west side of Chania called Tavronitis where you will find most of what you need and a couple of supermarkets 2 or 3 km to the west of tavronitis will also provide you with all the necessary stock that a family might need. The rooms at Rita Apartments are fully furnished, some with extra rooms (only a couple) as we required one for our little boy to sleep in, separate from ours and the living space. On the whole all furniture is basic, but fine, perhaps the matresses are a bit hard, and though every thing is catered for in the kitchenette, my other half thought it was perhaps a little too basic, though to be honest we got by absolutely fine. Spirros, the owner of the apartments, is all too friendly, and though his english will hopefully improve over the years, he speaks remarkable german (mine isnt all that, sometimes we resorted to google translate to communicate on more complicated issues) but on the whole, he and his family and friends are all too friendly and Maria his grand daughter who was present, was a very good friend of our little boy. Villa Rita is also located just far enough from the Scandinavian bunker located to the west of Chania, though i can see this invasion spreading over the years, i believe Tavronitis will be spared the culture shock that Chania's outskirts have endured over the years as, the 5 km stretch west of Chania is more like a mini scandinavian outpost in Crete - I personally find this refugee attitude amongst people of one country rather distasteful, as tourists prefer to behave as if they were at home, instead of soaking up the local culture, but i wont get started on that as it has nothing to do with Spirros' fine apartments. Only that if you want to avoid such agglomerations of nationals, Rita Apartments is perfect. To be honest, I have nothing to reproach Rita Apartments and would gladly book there again if we were to return to the same part of Crete in the Chania area. I would recommend having a car though, and if you are thinking of renting one, do not bother with eurpean corporate giants (avis, hertz etc) as you will more than likely pay 40% more than with local rental car companies (Olympic) which give you the same level of service. Was good to meet you Spirros, all the best from Barni and his family !!

Room Tip: The wifi is mainly available at an outdoor table with seats near the reception, where Spirros will b...

Quiet location about 100 metres from the beach, nice clean big rooms, great pool area and a very nice pool oftenly used because of the Windy weather!
Gentle and helpful manager, nice play area for kids at the garden also located near the Tavronitis market area.
Great place to use it as a base to explore North Crete from Chania to Falasarna!
