“Another great visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

This was our 2nd visit to this fantastic hotel. Our previous visit was September 2012 but we decided to go earlier in the year this time. Everything was every bit as good as the last time and better because on our previous visit the air conditioning was not working and as the temperatures were over 30 degrees you really need the air conditioning at night.
As on our previous visit there were very few Brits there. A lot of Russians, French and German guests but as before this was not a problem for us.
The food was as excellent as before with loads of choices for breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast and Dinner were served in the main Restaurant and lunch was served at the Pool Restaurant. Lots of show cooking at lunch and Dinner. You sometimes had to que for the food being cooked but that was not a problem. Wine and Beer on draught in the Main Restaurant and also at the Poolside Restaurant from 10.00a.m. till 6.00p.m. Only red and white wine but they are both ok.
I think the Hotel must have been a lot busier this time as I noticed a lot of people hunting for sunbeds later in the day. They did put out a lot more beds and umbrellas while we were there.
The cleanliness of this hotel is second to none. Our room was cleaned every day with a change of towels every day and the bedding changed every 3/4 days. The outside areas were cleaned every morning and the gardens were immaculate. The reception staff spoke very good English and were very pleasant and helpful. The reception area is very grand and has lovely sofas and chairs if you want a quiet seat.
All the staff at this hotel are really pleasant and work very hard. A lot of them are from Romania and Bulgaria and speak excellent English. The bar staff are excellent and soon get to know your drinks.
Summing up our 2nd holiday at this hotel everything was fantastic. We are already thinking of going back again so that speaks for itself.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms at the front of the hotel have amazing views.

I stayed at the Creta Star in August with my daughter and granddaughter. The room was a little tired but comfortable. The food was plentiful and good. The animation team worked hard to keep us active and entertained. Good kids' club and mini disco. The reception staff was friendly and helpful. The gardens were loveIy. I was a little apprehensive about a salt water pool but that was not a problem. I was very surprised that there was no lifeguard. The beach is very narrow and there are a lot of rocks, so getting in is not easy. There was a lot of seaweed washed up on the beach. Getting into Rethymno on the bus is easy. It is a nice town for some shopping and a coffe in the harbour. I had one BIG problem. Smoking was allowed everywhere! This was especially unpleasant in the restaurant. They should have rooms which are non smoking and a designated area in the restaurant and bars.

We travelled as a family party of seven with ages ranging from 15 to 70. We stayed at the Creta Star from 2nd to 16th August.
We avidly read Tripadvisor reports before we book and up until we arrive , and the reports for this hotel are justifiably and almost exclusively good.
The hotel grounds are impeccably maintained and the complex is a beautiful green oasis in an otherwise fairly bleak countryside. The beach is a narrow strip of mainly sand with some hidden rocks below the waterline.
The whole hotel structure is attractive and well maintained. Our four rooms were all on the second floor and appear to be the smallest on offer , but they were clean and adequate for our needs , although we always seem to need more hanging wardrobe space. It would appear that even numbered rooms have sea views , and ours were all odd numbered with either reasonable or good views depending on their position. The balconies were probably the smallest that we have encountered on our travels , but pleasant nonetheless.
The food was good and very varied when compared to other all-inclusives, and seemed to be available nearly all day in one form or another. We were always able to find tables to suit our party size , and particularly enjoyed breakfasting in the outside area. The layout of the buffet area was well planned and prevented antisocial queue jumping we have come across in other places mixing with our European cousins. The lunchtime buffet surroundings were a little tired as was the pool bar area , when compared to the surroundings in the rest of the hotel. Two of our party visited the Italian restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it and the sunset from it's beach location.
The animation team were friendly and worked tirelessly day and night . Our 15 year old boys enjoyed the physicality of the water polo & water volleyball , and the animation lads did their best to make these contests fun to watch. The shows in the evening produced by the animation team were watchable due to their enthusiasm.
All in all , we loved the place. In my opinion it truly justifies it's 4* status. Many thanks , Creta Star.

However , we will probably not return to Crete. This is in no way through any fault of the hotel. Due to our experiences in Greek airports we have vowed not to revisit Greece.
In view of their ecconomic position you would think that the Greeks would do all they can to encourage tourists. The Greeks are lovely people , but their airports are total chaos. The check-in staff are pleasant enough, but why do the security staff go out of their way to be so obnoxious and aggressive to everyone? They give the impression that they are mercenaries involved in a revolution in a banana republic . Very hostile. Perhaps it's the uniform.
There is no justification for them to treat people worse than cattle. Nowhere else would people put up with such treatment.
It is a shame that we will not return to such a great hotel

Room Tip: Book a sea view. The view over the gardens to the sea is worth the extra

The hotel was fairly big with great facilities for all. The entertainment team were terrific in getting adults and kids involved all day and night with constant activities such as water polo, beach volley and so on. There were two pools - one inside and one out - with saltwater. We were all inclusive and the food was great each evening. There is a free meal for the neighbouring hotel - Creta Royal - and I'd recommend not to bother as it was a set meal at a lower quality and choice than the hotel buffet. The rooms are decent sized and well-equipped but the beds are quite hard and the bathrooms are small. There are some drawbacks that you should be aware of - the hotel is located about a 20 minute drive from Rethymno and the Bar at the hotel stops serving at 12 and closes at 1 so for those wishing to socialise later, a trip to Rethymno is a must. The wifi at the hotel is a log-in system which constantly logs out and this can be quite tiresome logging in and out. The majority of the guests are non-British and they can be quite rude at times. The entertainment on the evening, although rated as child-friendly, was certainly not at times - some very risque scenes. Nevertheless, for our party (4 young adults), we had overall a great trip. If you are travelling to Crete, recommend you to visit Falasarna Beach near Balos, Gramvousa - easy drive along and fabulous scenery.

Lovely hotel and the food was great. We wouldn't go back. There was about 10 british people here on our stay and the majority of the guests was rude. It seemed that the hotel staff seemed more comfortable mixing with people that wasn't british. I took my daughter to the kids club everyday and i didn't feel like we was welcome there. It didn't help that they couldn't really understand us so they didn't really bother even trying to speak to us.

I thought the entertainment team tried but to be honest i didn't understand some of the things they was doing and some of it defiantely wasn't for kids!!

Just left the Creta Star Hotel after a lovely, relaxing fortnight. Rooms are pleasant, luxury in Greek terms I think. The airconditioning is not great, but our sea view family room had a huge terrace. Food is good and dining room service is well organised. If I had a complaint it is that there is a pplicy of long trousers publicised for men at dinner. This is not engorced by the greeters Or head waiter, but he may mention it later if he feels lime it. This is annoying if it happens when there are men in shorts all around you.Despite all inclusive we ate out several times - just for a change. But the menu does vary quite well for this type of buffet style dining facility. Don't expect Greek Taverna- this hotel caters for its Russian and French majority clientele. There were a few UK visitors, but mainly other nationalities, some with very limited social graces. If your child is in a queue go with them or they may well be pushed aside. The entertainment happens all day and there is a show each evening. We chose not to join in and did not find it intrusive or too noisy. The bar is fine- we had plenty of pleasant wine and beer, and our daughter loved the kids cocktails. Our room and the hotel generally was well maintained and clean. The sea is very dangerous here,so don't expect to be able to swim in it. We hired a car and drove out to safer beaches and enjoyed swimming there. It is worth heading to Rethymnon one evening to have dinner and an evening wander around the old town area. We had a great holiday in the main, and would recommend this hotel to other families.

Me and my sister stayed for a week in July 2013.
On arrival late at night the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, our bags were taken to our room whilst we could help ourselves to a cold buffet which was put on for late arrivals.
Our room was a large room that was extremely clean and had a large balcony with seating, drying rack and a sea view. The room also had a large fridge which was great for storing water etc, the bathroom was also a comfortable size and the shower was gorgeous! Freebies such as shampoo were also restocked regularly as were towels on request.
All staff we encountered including hotel staff and Thomas Cook rep were very friendly and accommodating.
The animation team were also brilliant provided entertainment throughout the day and a fun kids club. Although there were not that many English visitors I found we were not outnumber by any nationality in particular there was just a wide range of visitors. I also found that all animation hotel staff and visitors were very accommodating to us and happy to speak in clear English, in fact it was one of the standard used language e.g all notices and menus.
We were staying all inclusive and i used barely any extra money, I spent 1.60 on a bus into the town on market day and hired a beach lounger for a whole day for 3.50, on this note the beach was a beautiful sandy beach. All activities such as pedalos, canoes, archery, water gym were free.
Drinks and Ice cream were available self serve throughout the day and you could definitely get your moneys worth! Food was also brilliant, a wide range was always on offer of local and other foods and I cant imagine anyone wouldn't be able to find something they liked. At breakfast and tea some foods were cooked fresh by a chef at stations and relatively orderly queues were formed although they were never large. There was also an Italian restaurant on attached hotel, the Creta Royal, but I felt no need to go here as the food met all my needs.
The Pool was salt water but clean, and many people seemed to cope fine, i have sensitive eyes and i only needed to wear a pair of sun glasses and that gave me enough protection to swim and splash.
Upon leaving the hotel we could store out bags in a luggage room till out bus picked us up at 18:00.
The Airport in Heraklion was run down and a little dingy and small. We also had to queue outside for a small time with Thomas cook, but we soaked up the last minuets of sun. Ultimately the airport got you on your plane which is all we needed.
All in All a fabulous, relaxing holiday where i could take my mind of many stresses, I Would highly suggest this hotel and would happily plan to return!
