“Perfect for little children and parents..;-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2010

We've had the most relaxing and charming holiday at the Seychelles. On Praslin we stayed in Les Villas d'Or. This place was excellent, especially for young children. The houses were on the perfect location, in a beautiful garden right near the beach. It was quiet and relaxing. The houses have big patios were our little son (15 months and really into discovering and walking) could play perfectly. With the extra chairs we blocked the little steps towards the garden so our son couldn't escape to the beach (which he did immediately if he had the opportunity). So we could sit and relax in our relaxing chairs on the patio with the beautiful views and our son could play. There also was a babybad in which our son could play on the patio. The beach (5 meter from our hous) was almost private (which made it very romantic) and the sea was perfect (calm) for our little boy. We've played a lot on the beach/in the sea. The house was cleaned very good every day. The ktichen was perfect because we could prepare ourselves a meal when our son was sleeping (we went out for lunch but with our son sleeping at zeven pm, diner wasn't an option). The staff was very helpful and friendly. F.e. we've forgot our bag when we went home and they shipped it towards us immediately; what a service!

Good service og well sized bungalowes with nice patio. Located a few steps from a great beach. Travelled with young children who liked the small swimming pool.
Went to dinner at Mimi's one evening, and the children were very welcome. Bring a flashlight, as it gets quite dark on the way home, but it's only a few minutes walk.
Next time we would have a rental car the entire stay.
Wonderful island, and hope to go back in a few years.

On arrival we had to wait a short time before being escorted to our villa. We were given a refreshing drink of fruit juice. As we approached our villa our first thoughts were "wow".

We walked up a short garden path, two steps to the veranda where wooden garden recliners and table were in prime spot to view the sea. The main door to the villa was open the full width of the lounge. Inside was a comfortable settee and chair, large coffee table, tv with video and dvd (which we never used). The other end of the lounge was a dining area leading to the kitchen. A fridge/freezer and microwave was a welcome sight. Next to the dining area was the back door. Windows were all around the kitchen and one side of lounge. The bedroom was huge, as was the very comfortable bed. There was a door to the veranda Plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space. The bathroom was spacious.

The villa was immaculate. Ceiling fans and air conditioning in the bedroom. The daily maid service kept everything clean, including towels and bedding. Every room had flowers on arrival, including the table on the veranda. During our visit the maid placed a small posy on the dining table or left flowers around the villa.

The walk to the beach took all of 30 seconds. It was perfect for swimming in the clear warm water. We took a lengthy walk along the beach to some rocks to snorkel. Not many people were around so it felt like our own private beach. Just inside the grounds were showers. A swimming pool with seating was available, but we prefer the sea. Videos/dvd's and books were in the reception area. A tortoise pen was nearby. Fresh beach towels were available.

The walk to the local village was along the main road or the beach. We took the beach route. There were a selection of eating places and shops. For self-catering I would bring more fresh food over from Mahe next time.

Pierre, the owner, was very friendly and helpful and available to answer any questions and offered good advice and suggestions. He organised a Creole evening at a nearby hotel. This included a buffet and music. It also gave us the chance to meet other guests from Villas d'Or. This was reasonably priced.

A car is recommended if you intend to eat out regularly, especially if you want to find the cheaper take-aways, although Pierre can arrange with the restaurant transport to and from. Buses are not to time as on Mahe (If this matters to you)

We hired a car and also took a day trip to La Digue whilst here.

We had a wonderful time and intend to return in the future. Last thought. Why is this only rated as 3* for self-catering, deserves 5*.

Having stayed in a 2 bedrom villa there recently with friends, I feel compelled to relay that this is a wonderful place to stay. Nothing organized, quiet, on a spectacular and practically empty beach, with the waves lapping up close to our particular villa- beautiful and well cared for pool, and everything you could want for a self-catering establishment.
Kept very clean by the very friendly staff, and if you need info., or direction- the amiable Pierre ,will provide it.
I would highly recommend these villas, and would stay there again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2008

We stayed at Villas D'Or for 4 nights in October (in fact I am writing this review in Mahe airport, very timely!).

Overall, we had a great stay. The villas are large, clean and nicely decorated and are no more than 60 seconds walk away from the beautiful Cote D'or beach and its beautiful blue sea. Pretty much all of them have a sea view and a decent kitchen and fridge for self catering. There is a small pool at the hotel which is good for little kids, but the sea is shallow and very calm.

So why not five stars? A few key reasons:
i) The shops / restaurants are a long ten minute walk away as we found on the first day in the searing heat. Even then the choice is pretty bad as you would expect from somewhere that has to import most items. Getting to restaurants at night is a problem as you either have to walk down the beach or a very dark road which does not feel particularly safe. Whilst there we ate at Tante Mimi which was great (very close and will pick you up) and a few other places in Cote D'or which were nothing to write home about. If you give 24 hours notice you can get the villas to prepare you some food which was a good option. I would recommend you plan for meals very well as there is no chance to get an easy meal at short notice as we found when we arrived.

ii) No bath!

iii) Few minor problems on check in where we had to wait 3 hours to get into our room despite it looking like one was available (plus having to checkout at 10am)! However I have to say that Pierre and Sharon were great and helped with everything we asked for and it was just one surly woman who brought it down a little bit when we arrived.

Overall I would recommend Villas D'or as it is so peaceful at right by the sea and beautiful beach but just remember that it is self catering so prepare yourself for meals and don't expect your normal hotel facilities (room service, iron on request etc).

In terms of Praslin, it was fantastic - I would hire a car for a day and go to Anse Lazio beach which was amazing, do a snorkelling trip to Coco Island but just chill out and wind down like the locals.....

We are a family with two small children living there for 7 nights.

The place is perfect for a family looking for a quiet beach holiday as the villa gives you a lot more space than a hotel room. You live a few steps from the beach - it is almost like having a real home there.

Even though the idea is self catering (except for breakfast) there are restaurants available from the beach only a few steps away.

The management is very helpful and we highly recommend this place to anybody coming to Praslin to enjoy the peaceful tropical paradise.
