“Good but some issues to care about..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

At our arrival at the praslin jetty, a taxi was appointed to take us to Omusee Guest House, a very helpfull service, but we discovered later on we had to pay at the end of our stay to take a taxi to get back to the ferry boat.
Omusee Guest house is located 40m away from the road, 5 min away (on foot) of the nice but not exceptionnal Anse Volbert. Steve is a very welcoming and friendly person and very helpful, but most of all, he's a businessman. We decided, as every stay during our trip, to take only the room and handle breafeast lunch and dinner by ourselves. But, since you're in a house, you cannot access the kitchen easily, and consequently we had to take the breakfeast since the fridge is also used for everybody's cooking.
The breakfeast was expensive but very tasteful, and you could have it at any moment of the morning.
The room was fine, the bed was very hard and we couldn't sleep on the first night. But after we asked steeve, we had the mattress changed and then it was much much better. The bathroom was fine even if it missed some handles for the towels. The biggest issue was the noise. You can't sleep in if you want to. The kitchen, the owners, the other clients... As you all living on the same floor, you hear almost anything in the house.
The museum is a fraud, it consists of few animals and some pictures, and it is very expensive for what it is even if you can access it for free as a guesthouse client.
The commodities are all expensive, internet is only on the owner's pc, bikes cost 10 euros a day (a friend of steve's business), washing your clothes will cost you 10 to 15 euros !
On the plus side, Steve will help you to rent a car or find a boat trip with his friends, or book a taxi... Even if you have to ask him 3 or 4 times to make sure he's done it.
We tried the dinner. There's a single meal for everyone, whether you like it or not, so you'd better ask before. It's a very good quality cooking, but for 15€ each (20€ if you're an outside client) you won't get any ice cream or ending meal. Plus you have to pay 1€ for the water, not included in the global price.

So, If you wake up early and don't care what you're having for dinner, It's a good place for you. If you look for more autonomy and intimacy, you'd rather take a self catering on the Côte d'Or and use the restaurants aside from the main road.

My Wife and I really enjoyed our holidays in July 2011 at omusee. Steve and Jeannine were very gentle, the breakfast and the dinner was fantastic, especially the smoked fish salad!
The room was beautiful and clean and the garden is perfect for relaxing in the evening.
The beach can be reached by walking just in a few minutes. We are really looking forward to visit Steve and his family in april again!

We really enjoyed our stay in Omusee guesthouse. Our room was beautiful and clean, with nice wooden furniture and a comfortable bed. Water was running all day and night (which is not usual in other hostels and guesthouses in Seychelles) and we could also use an outdoor shower when we came from the beach. We were really enjoying the food - exotic fruit for breakfast (together with bread, eggs etc.) and delicious fish (with rice, meat and vegetables) for dinner. The guesthouse is in a very beautiful setting in the museum garden, with many interesting plants, tropical trees and even animals. It was very nice to sit there every evening and enjoy a cup of delicious tea made from citronella that was grown in the garden. Steve, the owner of the guesthouse, was very friendly and very helpful in organizing our trips - he helped us with bus trips and also recommended us a very nice trip to Curieuse island that we really enjoyed - we were only four people on this trip on a small boat, we had a lot of time to walk on the island, got a delicious barbecue and then went snorkelling from the boat - this was much better than going on a similar trip with big travel agencies together with a lot of other people. Steve and Jeannine were very friendly, always smiling and helpful. Steve gave us a great tour of the museum, he explained us a lot about the history of Seychelles and about the plants he grows in the garden - in the end of the tour we even tried to play some traditional musical instruments. The guesthouse is very close to Anse Volbert - a beautiful beach that is very good for swimming, it is also very close to a bus stop and to a food-store and ATM.

We were here end of March.Everything happened as we agreed before our arriving.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, it was everyday cleaned. But the very best is the very kind hospitality of the owners Steve an Jeanine. They fulfill all of our requests. If we asked them, they gave us clear answers and they organised us everthing.
We had there our "2nd Wedding" with my wife, and everthing were organised perfect by Steve and Jeanine . We received also smalll present from them ! They showed us how can work a little family-business whitout any greed ! They dont want from us extra moneys, even not for some organising ! During our stay there, there was a delegation from Seychelles Ministry and Sey- TV also to make a document film, how should go a family business.
This place is really beautiful ! I think it was a very good decision o choose Omusee Guesthouse. Of course if somebody need a luxury staying with lot of servant, must go to a 5* Hotel....
It is not accidental, that 99% of reviews gave them very good rating !

I would recommend to look for another guest house. I have tried quite a few on the Seychelles and this was the worst. I booked Omusée guesthouse because of its positive reviews at tripadvisor.... Unfortunately one can´t rely on those reviews, as I learned there. The Omusee owner, Steve, indicated, that “other” guesthouses would write most of their reviews by themselves or by their representing travel agencies in different languages. I am pretty sure now, that´s how Omusée got those all those good critics...
My experience at Omusee guesthouse: Upon arrival, the owner will offer a cup of tea, but he will join you and try to sell a snorkeling trip run by a friend of his - even trying to scare you by telling stories about other tour operators who will rip you off or run away with your money...
Also: Omusee is too expensive for what you are getting. The property is not very pretty, close to the main road and it has a trashy backyard. It´s very loud (you get woken up every morning by the loud talking of the owner, his little daughter and the kitchen noises), the beds are incredibly hard (a hurting back guaranteed), they offer a „pick up service“, which actually means you will be picked up from the ferry, but not returned.... The owner, Steve, is constantly talking (preferably advertising himself and dissing other places), which becomes quite annoying after a while. Credit cards are not accepted, guests are expected to in Euros. Paying in Rupees will lead to a bad exchange rate. Beach towels will be provided, as everywhere, but they were very smelly. Not only mine, also those of other guests. Internet: there is no WiFi, guests are forced to use the owner´s computer which occupied by the owners themselves for most of the time. Plus they´ll charge for it.
The rooms are okay but not cleaned very well, e.g. the sand was not removed from the floor, which led to a sandy bed. Another disturbing thing: Steve will present his „special room“ which he designed by himself. It has mirrors at the bed „so you can see the action“ and the bathroom is right in the room, no wall but a loose bamboo-fence „so you can peek through and see the wife taking shower or going to toilet“. Quite abhorrent.

Because the food at Omusee was highly recommended by my travel agency I booked half board. A mistake: The food is okay, but 15 Euros are a rip off, regarding the amount of food and prices elsewhere. Booking half board is not necessary, the owners will cook for you anyway. They even kind of expect guests to have their expensive dinner, and reacted unfriendly when other guests told them they were going to eat somewhere else. Water is not included in the 15 Euro dinner, a full 1 liter bottle will be charged for each meal on your final bill – in Euros of course.

I had checked out the website beforehand and was quite curious about the „Praslin museum“, which is rather disappointing if not even shocking: They keep two very large turtles (almost 40 years old) in a very small cage (approx. 2,5 diameter), we even witnessed these poor creatures trying to escape their prison by breaking the fence. They also keep about 7 large bats in another very small cage (about 2 diameter), exposed to the light and viewers 24 hours a day, not being able to fly or hide. In my opinion they are torturing the animals by keeping them in such cruel conditions. The rest of the „museum“ consists mainly of Photos in the wall... not worth a visit. They will give you a tour done by the gardener, which – of course - ends in the shop where you can leave more money....
There are better places for less money on Praslin!

We were here in March 2011. House is really near the gorgeous Cote d'Or beach, rooms are clean and very stylish and there is the owner Steve everytime you need help or some advice. Also - he is the best cook on Praslin ! I have no negative to say, so we highly recommend this house for your best stay in Praslin !!!
