“Nice prices for a guesthouse next to the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

Rosemary Guesthouse is located directly on the Cote d’Or beach in Praslin. Because of the water-shortage on Praslin there was no water in some rooms. Therefore we were offered a seafront room with a discount. Those rooms are much prettier and really have a nice view, so it was worth the extra money. Breakfast is a bit minimal: a small portion of fruit, juice, two slices of bread and coffee or tea. No eggs or pancakes. The grounds weren’t really tidy. Although they reacted on our comments and did something to hide it. But they have a lot of plans to make a beach bar or a kitchen where guests can cook themselves (depending on the Creole government how long it will take them to realize these plans). So you can really stay there low budget. Now you can only use a barbecue and the next take-away is six miles. The cheapest restaurant (next to the diveschool) also does take-away pizza, but it is horrible! If you’re on a budget Pirogue is may be the best place to eat. It’s not really cheap, but since you’re main course is pretty big, you don’t need a starter or desert or you can share them.

What a fantastic place this was! This is a small-scale guesthouse with a newly built part just 10 seconds off the beautiful Cote d'Or beach on Praslin. We were in a seaview room, light and spacious with a balcony, everything was very new. The view is to die for, it's so gorgeous!

Herbert is very accomodating and friendly and always willing to help. The breakfast is simple but delicious with fresh fruits every day. I really cannot find anything negative to say about this place, it was just all perfect!

There are a few restaurants in the vicinity for evening meals, most of which are very good. There are plenty of excursion opportunities from people who work on the beach, definitely worth visiting La Digue island (take a small fisherboat for some adventure, otherwise take the ferry for more comfortable travels) and La Curieuse with a nature trail and meeting up with wild land turtoises.

Room Tip: The seaview room on the first floor (the one on the left) is definitely the best room view-wise.

From the moment he offered us a beer at the gate (which he had to purchase across the road at the fantastic little corner store) Hubert did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Even before that - he responded quickly to emails, answering questions about transportation and local knowledge issues. Breakfast was lovely, with fresh fruit from the garden. Hubert is a great concierge, as well, his local knowledge helping us make decisions about tours. The location is great, as it is in a shallow part of the bay across from the island, where all the boats anchor. This provides a non-stop show. There are several dining opportunities nearby, however I would skip the next door 'large' hotel except for their pizza... and who goes to the Seychelles to eat pizza.

Room Tip: We were in the new building - the left hand room as you reach the top of the stairs. Excellent choic...

If you are not a "resort person" this accomodation is for you! The guesthouse is right on one of the most beautiful beaches of Praslin, on Cote d'Or. You just walk out from your room, take a few steps in the sand and get to the white sandy beach with a picturesque view to the nearby small islets. You can swim, walk or just lay in the sun on the gueshouse's sun chairs.
We have traveled around the island and had to admit that its location is one of the best. It is right next door to shops, restaurants, ATMs whatever you would need in Anse Volbert.
The rooms may seem a bit out of date, but really cozy. We chose the front floor room with a view to the garden, partially to the ocean but also to the new appartment building which is planned to open next month. In the new buliding you will get a full sea view, though at a higher price. Still it would worth it, since the location of Rosemary's is outstanding. Obviously you could go the neighbouring hotels for twice or rather triple the price to get the service and hotel feeling, but we indeed enjoyed the family atmosphere of Rosemary's. I think value for the money, is the best in Praslin!
You can enjoy the delicious breakfast in a beach hut with views to the ocean. They serve you tropical fruits, toasts with local jams and butter, accompanied by tea, coffee and juice. Really tasty and though it can be boring, they vary the choice of fruits daily, so you can always try another interesting taste in your mouth.
Rosemary's son Herbert is a very helpful and friendly host. He can arrange you car rental, cheap taxi and excursions.
Milka, the baby dog is the cutest animal around, she will approach you every day if you are kind to her, just like her mother who live in/around the property. If you don't like dogs, they stay away, so don't be afraid!
The negative point is the mosquitos. Though Herbert offered us insect repelllent and other stuff that helped, since there is no aircon in the room (indeed it is not needed for a good sleep temperature - fan and the sea wind helps a lot), you would need to keep the windows slightly open, thus bites are quite often.

All in all we had a great stay at the guesthouse. Unless you are for resort hotel feeling, you won't go wrong with Rosemary's!

We arrived in Rosemary Guesthouse after 1 day on the other side of the island (avoid it! Cote d'Or is definetely the best side in Praslin, both for the beach and the restaurants).
Rosemary Guesthouse has nice rooms (we stayed at the first floor, front sea: if this room is available i suggest to choice it, it's the best in the gouesthouse), and furthermore the position is amazing: just on Cote d'Or, you can wake up in the morning and run alone in the beach (see attached photo!) before a nice breakfast with tropical fruits.
Herbert, Rosemary's son, is very kind and approachable, and can also arrange snorkeling trips with his friend James.
Definitely our best choice in Seychelles!

We escaped Villa Flamboyant on the other side of the island after only 2 nights as we couldn't take it there. Found this place randomly while trying to find somewhere to stay, turned out to be great. Hébert, Rosemary's son, was pleased to take us in for 70 E per night (B&B, low season). He was very ready to help us with anything we needed, and gave us a choice of rooms. We took one upstairs on the lovely airy big terrace. The room was basic but bright, very airy and super clean, with a nice bathroom. Cleaned every day and sheets changed too. Unfortunately there were works going on in the really pretty garden (we think they're building another annexe..?) but it didn't bother us as you walk out a gate and you are right on Cote d'Or Beach, one of the most lovely on Praslin, and near all the little shops and takeaways (even though there are few on Praslin).
Breakfast was fine, fruit, toast jam and tea/coffee. Rosemary herself was a bit reserved, but Hébert was cool and chatted away with us and solved any problems/questions we had.
Overall, great value, superb location and friendly place. Watch your stuff on the beach though!

We stayed at Rosemary's twice 3 days and we found the place confortable, manager Herbert friendly and ready to help and the environement outstanding for people who like to swim (in fact this is the only affordable place in Seychelles where you can confortably swim at any phase of tide on the beach few meters distant from your room). Note that there is also nice place for snorcheling on thee left side of the small private island some 500m from the shore. Rooms are clean and spacious and despite of close road the night is calm
