Well having read varying reviews, I decided to book a last minute deal with Olympic to the Amalia Apartments.
Upon arrival all seemed ok, as we were waiting around the bar area for our room Keys. I was allocated D1, which was like a mini bungalow type property, right next to either a mini substation for the property, or a pumping room for the pool - first problem this was the only noise you could hear the entire time.
Upon entering the room, I was shocked, to find the dirtiest, smelliest room I have ever come across in my travels to Greece. I wasn't expecting a great deal, but I did expect it to be clean - something which it plainly wasnt.
The condition of the fridgy was horrendous outside and in, with a crack door handle going through to the insulation, complete will cracked top to it, covered in stains, as well as the sides. The inside was equally revolting, and clearly needed a good clean.
The Kitchen was dirty and smelly, and you certainly wouldnt have attempted to prepare food in there. The sleeping quarters were a little better, but again the cleanliness was terrible. One of the windows had a massive gouch undeneath where all sorts of creepy crawlies were festering.
The bathroom as by far the worst aspect. The sink area took me 20 minutes to clean before I was even able to use it. The whole area was dirty and covered in green sludge, where cleanliness just wasnt being maintained. The toilet was filthy and absolutely stunk, and the back of the area was enough to make you wretch - I'll be uploading pictures to show everyone just how bad.
The shower basin was impossibly small to use, and had two cracks right the way through it, as well as having the grubbiest shower curtains I've ever come across. The shower gel holder was broke, and pretty much green all over with all manner of germs breeding in there. Worse to come was with the shower head itself, having looked at it, there was no way would you have let the water from it go anywhere near your body, for fear of you swallowing any of the water which might I add was yellow at best.
The bathroom was extremely cramped, and you were unable to sit on the toiltet properly. Instead you had to side saddle the toilet, with feet semi swung into the grubby shower basin.
The outside terrace area was passable, nothing great, but adaquate.
On the whole I would recommend without hesitation DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
I've roughed it in many places in Greece over the years, in the most basic of accomodation, and I only ask for one thing - that the place be clean. It isn't much to ask!
I informed the Olympic rep of our issues, and he tried his best to resove these, but in fairness even he admitted that their were issues with the maid service at the apartments. Their idea of fixing the fridge was to polyfill the whole in the handle - you could still easily cut yourself on it.
In terms of Towel changes, no shower towels were provided, only hand towels, and during my weeks stay, they only changed them once - an utter disgrace.
I'll be uploading pictures so everyone can see the state of this establishment - but be warned you will need a strong stomach!
