“Cosmos is still 'heaven' ...but!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

This place is still, (see my 2012 reviews) fantastic..... apart from one thing and that is beyond the control of the Hotel and Neilson.
Across the road from the Hotel is a sewage pump and the vent pipe produces a rather nasty niff every so often, but is especially noticeable in the evenings when the land breeze wafts the 'aroma' over the road side of the Hotel. This is a great shame as the rooms around this side/end of the Hotel are usually the best for night-time coolness (with windows open); no need for air con. I have always tried to 'book' one of these rooms but I may not in future. (Rooms 101, 201, 301, 311, 210, 110).
Please do not misunderstand this comment. The Hotel really is excellent in every other respect (as long as you are not looking for 5* luxury that is) for the windsurfer/biker guests.
fatwindsurfer.

Room Tip: Not round the road side (see comments in review) unless you don't mind certain smells or you are...

Another excellent holiday at Cosmos Beach Club. Stelios and his wife Vassilliki, along with the Neilson team, are the perfect hosts and all the recent improvements at the hotel (gorgeous new pool-side seating area, loungers on the beach etc) mean that it gets better and better.
The standard of food at lunchtime and evening is excellent - and bar prices are very reasonable, having hardly increased in 4 years despite the government tax impositions.
Kit was new and plentiful and the beach team proactively helped to bring kit in from the water. Class sizes were small and provided an excellent standard of tuition.
The bike guides were less experienced than in the past but were happy to take guidance from long-standing guests on routes with which they weren't familiar. Would recommend taking elbow/knee pads if you're planning to do a lot of off-road biking as the single-track seemed to claim a fair few victims this time.
The only downside is that Preveza airport really isn't equipped for the number of fights at departure so be prepared for long queues, often outside in the midday sun. There's a small bar landslide where chilled water was only 50c a bottle and snacks are available. If you do manage to check in early, go to the taverna across the road rather than going through to departures - a lovely way to end the holiday.

I am a windsurfer and I have just returned from a week at this hotel. I stayed with a friend also a windsurfer. From the airport all was good. We were met by the rep at the coach. En route to the resort he explained all that we needed to know for our stay.
At the hotel the bags were removed by the reps and we were directed to our rooms. Initially very impressive. Clean and tidy and well kept. The room was basic with twin beds and the usual things that you would expect. Again very tidy and up together
Breakfast only down side. Boiled eggs toast and cereal and fruit with tea and coffee. There was an extra menu but at cost. Lunch good and a good choice but at extra cost. A good varied supermarket opposite that did pastries cake and fantastic sausage rolls!
The welcome meeting again was very thorough, even managed to get on the water. It was certainly windy and all the kit was well presented and easily accessible.
The town was about a 20 minute flat walk either along the road or the beach. Town Was good and all opened till late. Food pretty much the same price as the UK. A large beer about 4 euros.
We were very lucky with the weather with very strong winds gusting 40 knots they said! The mornings being light and picking up in the afternoon
The lessons all good as were the clinics. If you did not want to windsurf there were some great guided bike rides or just go off on your own. Plenty of sunbeds and no need to rush to reserve with the towel at 5am!!
A Dart cat was available as were paddle boards kayaks and some dinghies. Again tuition available for these.
There was very good safety on the water. At times I counted 6 rescue boats .Each school having a lookout tower and all controlled by radios. Very comforting and quick rescue {used it once!} A great comfort in some very challenging conditions
Harnesses were available .I was glad that I took a shorty wetsuit, although not cold the wind chill picked up after the sun went behind the mountain.
The hotel has 30 rooms I believe and this gives it a nice feel. It is right on the beach.
Can’t fault the holiday. A word of warning the airport. Be prepared to stand outside to await cases and passport control. On the return the airport is very busy and there were queues outside due to delayed flights. It was 30 degrees +

Been to Vass before (stayed at different accommodation then) and wasn't sure about another trip there but Stelios and his hotel crew plus the Neilsen team really made this holiday (well, them and my wife and our two friends).
Hotel isn't 4 star but that doesn't matter, everything is clean, food is good and plentiful with specials on different nights, bar prices fair, service friendly - plenty of outside seating. We only went to our room to sleep!
The mountain bike and windsurfing kit are all to hand and in good condition, with Neilsens instructors always there to help or advise. Service at the beach was unexpected - with staff eager to take our kit to/from the water, result!
And to top it all Eric blew his socks off most days - got a bit manic a few times but better than no wind.
Even if you don't windsurf this would be a great hotel to stay at with plenty of other activities on site or nearby.

Room Tip: Some rooms right by the busy road, ours was bit noisy with the windows open but didn't stop us s...

Just returned from a lovely holiday in Vass. The hotel was ideal - small, friendly, clean and perfect for us. Both the hotel staff and the Neilson team were always really helpful. We really enjoyed the use of all the equipment and were impressed by the enthusiasm that the team offered. The hotel is situated towards the end of the bay furthest away from the main town in the edge of the beach. There are a few bars and restaurants just a short walk away and a 20 minute walk takes you to Vass. Vass is a charming little town with lots if restaurants/bars alongside the quayside and has a good selection of shops. There are also ferries crossing to the other islands, but we did not have time to explore. The only problem with our holiday was that it was too short and next time, we will book 2 weeks!

My girlfriend and I have just returned from two fabulous weeks at the Cosmos, enjoying the hospitality of Stelios and the Neilson team. I had heard great things about this place's reputation but didn't think for a second it could actually live up to it - yet alone surpass it!! Situated in the idyllic Vasiliki bay, just 10 minutes from the quaint town itself its location couldn't be better. The facilities are second to none for windsurfers and sun worshippers alike, and as we are in the former catagory, 'Eric' coming out to play certainly adds to the enjoyment. With its backdrop of stunning mountain scenery, the 360 degree vista is inspiring in itself. Those with strong legs should attempt the White Church bike ride to see the whole of Lefkada island from its highest point, or for the more leisurely, a gentle pootle through the beautiful olive groves.

The windsurf kit is all new or nearly new and well looked after by the team who can't do enough to help...I lost count of how many times Ben actually ran up and down the beach carrying sails, boards and the like.

I could go on but then everybody would want to go there and spoil the COsmos combination of fun and quiet, tranquil charm...thanks Stelios et al.

My family and I spent a week at the Cosmos Hotel in Vass just before half term. I was in two minds whether to actually write this review simply because selfishly I just don't want anyone else to know about this fab place so its not booked up when (not if) we decide to return.

We had the most amazing time and can honestly say it was not just a holiday but a great experience. The Nielson team are excellent and put on a wide range of sailing, biking, SUP'ing, canoeing, eating and drinking activities over the course of the week which made this a great holiday. Our kids are 5 and 8 and adored the child care team, especially Charlie who was just brilliant with them and took them sailing, canoeing and on various other adventures and games during the week.

The guys and girls running the watersports are hugely enthusiastic, competent and work hard to offer the best they can to all the guests. In particular, Jack, Ollie and Tyson who respectively gave us some great windsurf, sailing and biking fun and tuition.

Finally the hotel is in a stunning location, very well run, clean and with rooms that are nicely appointed. Breakfast is basic, but does the job. Meals in the evening offered lots of variety and there is still Vass town and other fantastic quality and value local tavernas to visit.

To summarise, please do not book to go here under any circumstances, especially not in Sept or March next year when I plan to return with my family and perhaps some friends to get some more of what they have to offer!
