“Fantastic villas in an idyllic rural setting that is in no way remote”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Having booked three nights in a beach resort area, Tsivili, to have those beach days, we wanted to get away from the package holiday side of Zakynthos and see the real island.

The villas are located about 20 mins from Zakynthos town and about two kilometres above and along the coast from the little port village of Limni Keri which is a great centre for renting little motor boats or jump on a boat trip to the Keri caves and more importantly the island in the bay that the turtles breed on. As we were out of breeding season, we did not see any turtles but the island has a beautiful little beach accessible only by boat and is backed by the cliff wall. Amazing place to tie up on our 3 hour jaunt around the bay in our hired boat.

Limni Keri itself is small but has plenty to offer with a number of restaurants and a few bars, a great bakery (for the villa breakfast) and some small supermarkets. There is also a beach here but the beach 5 mins below the villas is much more interesting. Down a path from the road near the villas, you come to the shore which turning left and around a jutting rock you get to a lovely stony beach that feels isolated bar the occasional boat that rocks up.

Keri itself is up the hill road from Limni Keri and is worth the trip in the evening to see the sunset at the lighthouse above the Keri cliffs.

As for the villas, they really allow you to enjoy this area as the views from the villas over the bay to the turtle island is amazing - to wake up to and in the evening enjoying a drink on one of the balconies in the villa. The villas are reasonably newly renovated, have a balcony from the living room, one from the upstairs bedroom, a seating area outside the front door and two around the pool. They seem to be co-ordinated with the sun as throughout the day the sun is shining on one of these meaning that you have no excuse or reason to leave the villa. There was a jacuzzi bath which I wasn't aware of in booking and the villa throughout is finished to a high standard. The pool is lovely - deep at one end and less so at the other and with two areas around to relax at.

Immediately near the villas there is two tavernas within walling distance - one up the road to the left and one to the right. The one up the road to the right is much better and has amazing views over the island in the bay behind which the moon rises each night. La Bruschetta is a highly recommended restaurant along the road from the villas to Limni Ker which you could walk to and back during the day but may be too dark a walk in the evenings as no lighting along the road.

A hire car is best for this villa and I believe essential to getting out to see the rest of the island which is relatively small and so easily covered in a day. Drive to the viewing area above Shipwreck Cove as it is probably as spectular as seeing it from a boat.

We stayed in villa 412 which was the lowest and so had no villa in front but as the villas are built on a hillside, the other villas have uninterrupted views also. Just to note, each villa structure has two accommodation options which can be combined for a larger group. The main villa has the pool, has a bedroom on the mezzanine and a living room with a convertible sofa below. Below the villa with a separate entrance is a two bedroom one level apartment that is quite spacious and has its own outdoor area.

For the price, these apartments are well worth it and the location and type of stay you'll experience here is a more authentic experience that that offered by the package holiday areas around Zachythos Town. Laganas is the party package holiday area and is far cry from Limni Keri - tacky, false and woeful. Give me here any day - will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Any of the villas would give you a great experience

We had an amazing time at the exensian villa and were very sad to leave.
Pros.
The views to the Marathonissi (Turtle) Island are amazing and the villa itself is well equipped with all you need (pool, large double bed, wardrobe, tv, washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine, cooking equipment, toastie maker, large sofa / seating area) . Private pool cleaned every day and maid service to mop floors, empty bins and change sheets daily as well. all staff very friendly,2 local tavernas with one (votsolo) being the better of the two. within very close walking distance, and local beach was well worth the short walk, wish we had explored more and seen the beach at the beginning of holiday but did not leave the villa much as it was so nice. The pictures on their website are accurate and you will not be dissappointed.
Villa is on a complex of 4,but they are all very private and you do not feel like you are surrounded by other people at all. Many areas to sit out side in the villa, so you can always get shade or sun depending on how you feel. (Upstairs Balcony, Downstairs Balcony, and the garden / pool area.).
Nearest greek style supermarkets are in Keri Beach which is a 10 minute drive (2km) from the villa, alternatively LIDL is about 1/2 hour away towards the airport. Although a car is not essential would recommend it if you need to go to shops every day (Like I do!!)
All in all a excellent place to spend a week in the sun! and can't wait to go again!!

Had a week's stay in a Deluxe Suite with Pool and am pleased to say that the place lived up to our expectations. It was a 25 minute drive from the airport and once you reach Keri, there are signs for Exensian Villas. Due to the hillside setting which affords you the spectacular views, access to the Villas is via a steep driveway. The villas are not crammed together so you do have a sense of privacy, we were in 211 which was not overlooked at all but did mean that we lost the sun around 5pm. The pool is fabulous and the reverse jet function enabled my husband to maintain his swimming regime. The exterior seating was exceptionally comfortable and we loved sitting on the double sun lounger looking out to Turtle Island. Sunrises were spectacular from the balconies. The bed was large and very comfortable and had views over to Laganas and Turtle island. A really beautiful setting. The kitchen area was compact but perfectly adequate for the two of us. During our stay here, we mostly ate at the excellent Votsalo Taverna which is around 10 minutes walk away. We drove to Limni Keri (5 mins) each morning for fresh bread and supplies and an early dip in the bay. We loved Limni Keri, so peaceful and scenic. Spiros is the onsite "caretaker" and very helpful. There is also a "light touch" maid service which we received most days of our visit which was useful as we didn't have to dispose of our garbage. We did experience thunderstorms and several days of torrential rain at the end of our stay so our fun was somewhat curtailed but we moved down to a villa in Limni Keri (Anavista) for four nights after we left Exensian, which I can also recommend. The views really make this place special - I could stare out to sea all day watching the boats and the falcons soaring above. We have brought many happy memories home with us and I would return without hesitation. I never met Nansy but we would like to thank her for a lovely stay.

We stayed at Exensian for the first time and we loved every hour of it!
We loved the design and the service.
Our villa was fabulous and equipped with all the amenities!
The beds were massive and super comfy.
The living room and the bedrooms had  huge balconies with fantastic view of the sea and "Marathonissi".
It was without question the biggest verandas we had ever had in a hotel.
The nearby beach of Marathias was quiet  with beautiful water and the dinner was very good at the tavern "Marathias Star".
The private pool is much bigger than the normal  for this villa, which is something we really enjoyed.

We look forward to more stays at the Exensian Villas!!!

Although i've visited Zakynthos island many times, this was the first time stayed in Marathias.
It is a wonderful place to visit as a family.
Exensian is amazing villas, in a beautiful natural environment, with fantastic sea views, very close to the Marathias beach.
Just 4 minutes by feet.
If you are looking to relaxation, together with quiet and calm, then these are ideal!
Very close there are 2 wonderful Greek taverns.
The amenities of the villas were many and luxurious.
The staff was very helpful (The maid visited every day and doing a great job).
We will be recommending "Exensian Villas & Suites" to our friends.
